If they were defaced - how can any investigator think this was a "robbery" gone bad?
Mr. Umma says "I feel the way the family was murdered is enough solid evidence that this barbaric crime was committed by muslims".
I'm sorry but I simply must protest. This is a very tragic & sad end to this family...and the fact is that it is yet unproven who did this.
For all we know it could be a non muslim (an infidel if you will) who knows that this kind of thing went on in the old days. He/she/they could even be readers of JW and got the idea from our learned poostees.

The sensible thing to do is wait & see what evidence the authorities dig up and who gets arrested for the crimes.
I think though that what people really worry about is this: Crimes like these happen in those far away places like Iraq...what are they doing here in NJ, this doesn't here? You only hear/see/read these crimes on the Internet. All of a sudden it's on your door step...and all here imply that this must be a crime by muslims.
Also there is the fear that soon even in the US you cannot say what you want as this could happen to you....it is the fear factor....don't let it get to you.
Let the police do their job...let's not impede or be a pain in the neck for them ....please wait.

The likelihood of this crime being committed to make Muslims look bad is about as likely as the conspiracy theories implicating Israel for the 9/11 attacks. I agree we should not rush to judgement, but let's not play the Muslim victimization game either.
That having been said, it is clear that this is a hate crime of some sort. Your garden variety burglar is not the least bit interested in wasting time at the scene of a crime mutilating people - he wants to get in and get out of the burgled premesis as quickly as possible so as to avoid the likelihood of apprehension. Furthermore, your typical burglar is going to go to lengths to avoid detection by its occupants - how is the criminal to know if the inhabitants are armed or not?? The fact that the entire family was present during this crime lends further credibilty to the hate crime. I suspect, as others have, that the culprit (or, more likely, culprits) has been inside that house before, and that he/she knew they would not be confronted with armed force. This appears to be a crime committed by someone familiar with the occupants and the premesis. The mutilation of the victims also lends credence to theories regarding a familiarity between the perpetrator and victim. As I mentioned, your garden variety burglar doesn't have any motive to engage in such a personal act. It's hit and run and flee the scene as quickly as possible.
The Jersey City cops know all this. They're just trying to keep a lid on this situation - the LAST thing they want is a small scale civil war breaking out in the community.
I guess the big question here is, will the United States government address this crime properly or simply roll over?
Will they let it get as bad as Holland before they start doing something?
I certainly hope not.

This crime underscores the necessity of exercising your Second Amendment right to bear arms. A shotgun and a sidearm are necessary accessories if you are going to make it your business to confront militant fanatics. After all, do you play with fire without wearing flame-retardant gloves? No, I'm not being alarmist - being able to defend yourself in this day and age is just plain common sense. Forget what the gun control fear-mongerers say, they won't be around to save you when you're confronting an armed intruder in your home.
And take a firearms safety course. Your local law enforcement agency or state police more than likely offers such courses. Be prepared. Be responsible.
I think one problem here is the psychology of legal/investigative system in the US. They typically investigate murders by pursuing family members as possible suspects under a set of defined possible motives. There simply isn't enough presedence for this type of motive in the US to make the authorities seriously consider it, and the chances are that they won't even considers it. I also believe there won't be an arrest made and the case will be unsolved because of the nature of the murders. More murders similar to it will have to happen before it is considered to be a possible mechanism.
It's just like in Britain where an honor killing was discovered and now officials are looking at many other mysterious, unsolved deaths and disappearances in which honor killing may have been the mechanism as noted in the story below.

The United States still faces law enforcement challenges with this type of issue. The meaningful question is whether or not the FBI has been brought into this case (and if not, why not), not necessarily what the New Jersey police are doing. I would *guess* that someone from FBI has approached local police based on possibility that this was a "hate crime" or "terrorist" act. But it is unknown whether New Jersey would welcome FBI involvement on this.
It appears that Jersey City in Hudson County, NJ is supportive (or at least isn't formally against) the USA PATRIOT Act. Jersey City, also known as "Terror City" (http://www.arc.org/C_Lines/CLArchive/story7_2_02.html), should have good cooperation on this between local police and FBI. Local police are really not equipped however, to do this type of investigation effectively, and the key issue is what is the FBI doing on this. Perhaps they need a certain "quantity" of evidence for FBI to be engaged?
But based on politics, it is possible that there could be friction in New Jersey cooperation with FBI on such an investigation. Jersey City libraries have refused to cooperate with FBI on PATRIOT Act requests (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/920917/posts), and there are numerous efforts in other cities in New Jersey to repeal the PATRIOT Act.
As of June 2004, the ACLU has gotten nine New Jersey municipalities to go on record opposing the USA Patriot Act or provisions of the anti-terrorism law: Paterson, Willingboro, Princeton, Highland Park, Ewing, Mullica, Franklin in Somerset County, Montclair and Phillipsburg.
In July 2004, there was a new group called the "Newark-Jersey City Stop the Patriot Act Meetup Group" (http://stoppatriotact.meetup.com/64/about/), but I believe there has been such anti-PATRIOT Act resolution for Jersey City yet.
If such Islamist Extremist "van Gogh" murders take place in USA, perhaps the way to guage whether you are living in a "safe" community or "safe" state will be whether or not that state / community is willing to cooperate with FBI and PATRIOT Act on terrorist investigations. Such cooperation should be a priority for our cities, but the truth is that many (especially in northeast - highest target areas) have shunned such support in the past.

SAN ANTONIO — A group of suspected illegal immigrants was being questioned early Tuesday after federal officials forced their single-engine plane to land here.
The Cessna () carried at least four suspected illegal immigrants who were detained along with the craft's pilot by homeland security officials in connection with a possible smuggling operation, according to newspaper and broadcast reports.
A police dispatcher said federal authorities forced the craft to land just before 10 p.m. Monday at Stinson Municipal Airport (), a few miles south of downtown San Antonio.
"They brought a plane down. They are holding it," a San Antonio Police Department dispatcher, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press. "They asked us to assist them. The FBI is handling it now."
Representatives of the Homeland Security Department (), FBI and Federal Aviation Administration () did not return telephone calls early Tuesday from the AP.
Online records of the Federal Aviation Administration show the 20-year-old plane is co-owned by Afzal Hameed of Dover, Del. The other co-owner is listed as Alyce S. Taylor, but no address is given for her.
The FAA records state that the plane's last three-year registration was filed in 1999, and that the agency received no response in 2002 after mailing new registration forms to Hameed.
Capt. Jeff Humphrey, San Antonio police special operations commander, told the San Antonio Express-News in Tuesday's editions that the five suspects were under investigation in connection with a smuggling operation involving Chinese nationals.
The newspaper said the five had been flying south of San Antonio when they were intercepted and ordered to land. Federal agents and San Antonio police surrounded the plane after it landed.
Federal authorities said the plane was flying in American airspace illegally and that those aboard the craft appeared to be Chinese, according to San Antonio television and radio station WOAI.
The Express-News said federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement () officials asked for backup from San Antonio police, who provided a Chinese linguist to translate for the two male and two female passengers.

Obviously you know nothing about America. I’m not-so-proud to report that, according to the FBI, New Orleans has a higher rate of murder and non-negligent manslaughter than Iraq.
I was just in New Orleans and the food is excellent, even at the all-night diners.
Americans are, unfortunately, used to crime. The question that investigators have to determine is, was the murder of the Armanious family a civilian crime, or was it part of the current, state-sponsored Islamist war against what you call ‘infidels’.
On September 11th, 2001, Islamist paramilitaries, funded by wealthy Islamists from Islamist states (like Saudi Arabia, Iran) slaughtered 3000 infidels in an unprovoked act of war. Those state-sponsored paramilitaries have also killed hundreds of Australians in Bali, UN officials, Iraqi police and American soldiers. They're also attacking buddhist Monks in Thailand and non-Islamist teachers.
Those same Islamist states sponsor Muslim organizations in the United States, like the Muslim Student Association (a local branch of the Muslim Brotherhood) and Saudi-sponsored CAIR to spread their Wahhabi-inspired message of hate. The influence of these and other Islamist sponsored ‘charities’ and public relations groups has been significant worldwide.
I hope that investigators are also exploring possible connections between these Wahhabi special interest groups and the imam who may have declared this Christian family’s blood “halal,” (i.e., licit to shed).
I agree that the evidence is not all in. We’re just using our first-amendment right to learn more about the methods that are being used in the investigation. Do you know anything about our amendments or our rights? Your comment indicates that you know next to nothing about crime in America or American jurisprudence. You do know a lot about fundamentalist, puritanical Wahhabi-influenced Shariah laws. Can you give us any more information about what the Shariah would have to say about the legality of killing someone who was guilty of “proselytizing activities among Muslims.”?

These are the rules for the Dhimmi. You'll will note that "leading a Muslim away from Islam" breaks the "formal agreement of protection" made with Christians. Most Sunni Muslims would, I am sure, agree that anyone who led a Muslim to Ridda (apostasy) should be put to death. Freedom of conscience is not an Islamic belief. o11.6 They are forbidden to reside in the Hijaz, meaning the area and towns around Mecca, Medina, and Yamama, for more than three days (when the caliph allows them to enter there for something they need).
o11.7 A non-Muslim may not enter the Meccan Sacred Precinct (Haram) under any circumstances, or enter any other mosque without permission (A: nor may Muslims enter churches without their permission).
o11.8 It is obligatory for the caliph (def: o25) to protect those of them who are in Muslim lands just as he would Muslims, and to seek the release of those of them who are captured.
o11.9 If non-Muslim subjects of the Islamic state refuse to conform to the rules of Islam, or to pay the non-Muslim poll tax, then their agreement with the state has been violated (dis: o11.11) (A: though if only one of them disobeys, it concerns him alone).
o11.10 The agreement is also violated (A: with respect to the offender alone) if the state has stipulated that any of the following things break it, and one of the subjects does so anyway, though if the state has not stipulated that these break the agreement, then they do not; namely, if one of the subject people:
(1) commits adultery with a Muslim woman or marries her;
(2) conceals spies of hostile forces;
(3) leads a Muslim away from Islam;
(4) kills a Muslim;
(5) or mentions something impermissible about Allah, the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), or Islam.
o11.11 When a subject’s agreement with the state has been violated, the caliph chooses between the four alternatives mentioned above in connection with prisoners of war (o9.14).

Nowhere has the United States had to do more of that than in the Middle East and within the Muslim world. A just peace in the holy lands, swift stability and withdrawal from Iraq, and a genuine change of the face of tyranny in the Middle East, and the Muslim world, will be the pillars of lasting prosperity and tranquility in the world as a whole.
Understanding and honoring the deep traditions of Islam, and the customs and cultures of the people of the region, are essential components of our aspiration for a genuine partnership of peace and prosperity. The president’s declared commitment to those principles charters the course towards that aspired outcome.
Islam honors freedom and the liberty of man. A God-given right and a Divine ordinance that characterizes the essence of every Muslim and illuminates every guidance that is prescribed by the Holy Qur’an and the teachings of the prophet (peace be upon him)
The values the president invokes in our citizens, those of “integrity and tolerance toward others and the rule of conscience in our own lives. Self-government relies, in the end, on the governing of the self,” are the same values we call for at the Muslim American Society (MAS): the development of the individual and empowerment of the community so that, as Muslims, we can be exemplary citizens of our nation and for our communities in order to achieve positive integration and contribute to the growth and prosperity of our country. These are commitments comprising part of our fulfillment of our mission as Muslims in America. We must honor the America “that values the life we see in one another” and we reaffirm our commitment to support the President’s call that “our country must abandon all the habits of racism because we cannot carry the message of freedom and the baggage of bigotry at the same time”.
Finally, as we mark the beginnings of a new term for our nation’s president, as we celebrate the durable wisdom of our constitution, and as we recall the deep commitments that unite our country, we call upon members of MAS and the American Muslim community to look forward and engage in the process of building and mending the fabric of our American society so that we can ensure a brighter future for our children and the children of humanity everywhere.
As Muslims, we are called upon to stay the course and take the higher road in the face of increasing adversity and bigotry. We will hold our President true to the words he proclaims, we will strive to elucidate the brilliance of our great religion of Islam and its teachings while we add a genuine modern rendition of monotheism to the great heritage of our nation, we will advocate and implement solutions to the ailments of racism and bigotry that afflict our nation, we will help build the bridge of understanding and partnership with the Muslim world and the billions of Muslims therein, and we will join every sincere dedicated citizen of our great nation to ensure its welfare, to perfect the human condition and align its will with the Will of its Creator, Almighty God, here at home and abroad.

What's this? Everyone yearns for freedom in the Muslim world? Nonsense. Each yearns for filing his own pocket, that of his family, and of his tribe. Occasionally efforts will be expended on behalf the ethnic or sectarian group. But no one fights for a nation-state; the very idea is non-Muslim. It comes from elsewhere. And as for the supposed duty of the United States, in which this Obeish fellow says "we need to be courageous enough to point to the excesses and shortcomings of our policies as we advance the beacon of freedom and democracy around the world. Nowhere has the United States had to do more of that than in the Middle East and within the Muslim world" -- what presumption, what cheek.
Let Mr. Obeish be reminded that the United States owes the Muslim states, and peoples, exactly nothing. It is they who owe the entire non-Muslim world an explanation of their behavior, in Bangladesh, in Indonesia, in Nigeria, in the Sudan, in the Philippines, in Madrid and Beslan and New York and Washington, all over. They owe us, the Infidels, an explanation as to what they intend to do, if anything, to suppress or interpret away the hatred inculcated toward Infidels that one can so easily find in Qur'an, Hadith, and Sira.
As for the implied "Infidel Man's Burden" to bring "democracy" and "freedom" to people whose belief-system has never elevated, and indeed has in every way been antipathetic to, the ideas of both "democracy" and "freedom" -- a belief-system that emphasizes the collective the umma al-islamiyya, and not the lone individual citizen, and that teaches obedience to authority, and to the Ruler -- what sort of natural fit is there between Islam and "democracy" or "freedom"? There is none.
The Western world should stop doing the bidding of the Muslim world, and that includes those, among its soi-disant "reformers," who want to use American power for their own ends -- as they did so cleverly in making the Iraqi mission not one of simply disarming, and deposing, an aggressive regime that was armed to the teeth, but in remaing, and misallocating resources, including men, money, materiel, and in depleting morale, and distracting attention, all for the sake of a most doubtful idea.
Democracy comes, if it comes at all to Muslim states, not before but after constraints on Islam as a political and social force have been put in place, as they were by Ataturk. And that will happen only when the Muslim peoples themselves are no longer propped up by Western aid and Western intervention, and are forced to see, as those who have endured the Islamic Republic of Iran have been forced to see, the political, economic, social, and intellectual failures of Islam.
The conditions in which those failures can be seen, no longer hidden by either the oil bonanza, or a vast army of Muslim apologists, including both "moderate" and "immoderate" Muslims, need to be permitted to exist, without further massive, expensive American efforts to create, with all the innocence of Marie Bashkirtseva, what is probably impossible, and even if achieved, means very little.

i was going to say i agree, but; after some thought though, i disagree with you.
The U.S., having rightly gone into Iraq, couldn't leave until saddam and major cronies were picked up, so a quick in and out was not possible anyway. Also necessary to destroy Bath party and army/police support structure; after which others must be trained to fill the void.
The 'democracy' is a way of getting out having handed power over to a silently appreciative majority grouping, Shia and Kurd, and having planted the notion, the seed, of democracy, not the tree.
Should America stop working with/supporting certain arab regimes, as you urge, the Russians and Chinese would be there in a second, with all sorts of negative ramifications, i think catastrophic for America.
The value of the arabs' oil resources, and the yearly cash generated, is only going up from here; withdrawing U.S. 'support' would not generate collapse and change.

They are demonic. They are not of this world. Like they said..they worship death. They are victims of Satan trying to dimish the Human race. After they kill all "infidels" they'll just kill each other. They are just Satan's puppets and Satan is holding the strings laughing. It really is sad. It is maddening.
The souls that flew those planes into those buildings on 9-11 are still burning in the flames they threw their vessels into. They are being tormented in their own flames right now. Their fire will never be quenched and their worm will never die.
