HUNDREDS of Filipino Muslims and their Christian supporters marched near Malacañang Friday to protest a police raid on an Islamic center, where authorities claimed terror suspects were hiding.Seventeen people were taken into custody in last week’s raid in Manila’s Muslim enclave of Quiapo, but only two were charged and later released on bail.
Police claimed to have recovered homemade bombs and weapons, and that five of the 17 people detained allegedly belonged to a terrorist group called “Hukbong Khalid Trinidad,” or “Khalid Trinidad Army,” part of a clandestine movement seeking to convert Christians to Islam and use them to carry out terror attacks.
Some of those detained and later released accused police of planting the evidence, but the National Police chief, Director General Edgar Aglipay, told reporters there was “strong evidence” against two of the suspects.
But Muslim activists were unconvinced.
“The Muslim terror bogey created by the government to justify its war on terrorism has once again resurfaced, this time with new names,” said Cosain Naga Jr., a spokesman for the Moro Christian People’s Alliance.
About 500 protesters marched from a Manila mosque to the presidential palace, where they were stopped at a police barricade.
They carried a streamer, saying, “Concerned Muslims in Metro Manila against illegal arrests and discrimination,” and chanted “Allahu Akbar” (God is great).
Regarding the phrase in the above article, "'Hukbong Khalid Trinidad,' or 'Khalid Trinidad Army,' part of a clandestine movement seeking to convert Christians to Islam and use them to carry out terror attacks"; it seems quite interesting that exposure of this phenomenon (and similar endeavors) will make the choice between Islam and Christianity much more stark for each individual.
Have we not, for instance, read recently that the Indonesians warn against tsunami aid workers proselytizing Christianity? This resistance combined with the recruitment for murder puts the lie to the "Religion of Peace" canard. As good Muslims continue to receive information in their societies that are incrementally joining the global community, they will truly be faced with questioning their own faith.

Well, increased Internet usage, distribution of television and radio and print media bring this hermetic civilization into the Age of Information, and we can hope that enlightenment will indeed come to a few -- if not, many.
