From a new NIC report, "Mapping the Global Future," with thanks to Anthony:
Central Asian countries—Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—face the stiff challenge of keeping the social peace in a context of high population growth, a relatively young population, limited economic prospects, and growing radical Islamic influence.
These are the countries that some Muslim moderates point to as the hope of moderate Islam, because they have evolved Islamic cultures that pay scant attention to jihad and have generally harmonious relations with non-Muslims. However, as I have pointed out many times, these cultures are vulnerable to inroads from jihadists who quote chapter and verse and call young Muslims there back to "pure Islam."
The report also says this about the future of the Islamic jihad movement worldwide:
Radical Islam. Most of the regions that will experience gains in religious “activists” also have youth bulges, which experts have correlated with high numbers of radical adherents, including Muslim extremists. [11]Youth bulges are expected to be especially acute in most Middle Eastern and West African countries until at least 2005-2010, and the effects will linger long after.
In the Middle East, radical Islam’s increasing hold reflects the political and economic alienation of many young Muslims from their unresponsive and unrepresentative governments and related failure of many predominantly Muslim states to reap significant economic gains from globalization.
The spread of radical Islam will have a significant global impact leading to 2020, rallying disparate ethnic and national groups and perhaps even creating an authority that transcends national boundaries. Part of the appeal of radical Islam involves its call for a return by Muslims to earlier roots when Islamic civilization was at the forefront of global change. The collective feelings of alienation and estrangement which radical Islam draws upon are unlikely to dissipate until the Muslim world again appears to be more fully integrated into the world economy.

Radical Islam will continue to appeal to many Muslim migrants who are attracted to the more prosperous West for employment opportunities but do not feel at home in what they perceive as an alien culture.

I am uncomfortable with the term "Radical Islam" because the preponderance of evidence is Wahhabism emanating from Saudi Arabia. Saudi's appear to be the common denominator all over the world where there is the terror of hate. If I had to put a figure on it I would say the Saudi's are involved over 50%.
What disturbs me the most is as an ardent supporter of Bush in so many ways I feel he is damn near a traitor in leaving the Saudi's off the hook. Mosques manned by the Saudi's are going up on seemingly every street corner. They are pouring into Iraq unabated killing our Servicemen and Iraqi's. I hope I am overlooking something as I have not been able to discern why Bush is hands off of our obvious but undeclared enemy.

"What they perceive as an alien culture"? That may help to set them off, but all sorts of other immigrants have arrived -- Vietnamese Buddhists, Indian Hindus, even Chinese born and raised in the Cult of Mao, who have come, and managed to adjust, quite successfully, and without murdering the indigenous populations in their host countries, in places which possess what they cannot fail to "perceive as an alien culture" -- yet live without any problems. The discussion in the posting above leaves out the one important explanatory detail -- for it is no detail, but the whole thing -- and that is Islam itself, the grid on which the universe can be hung, the prism through which the universe can be perceived, the Explanation for Everything, the Total Regulation of Everything, the way to assign praise (to Muslims) and blame (to all Infidels), and then to mete out punishment to the blameworthy, for the continuing sin of refusing to accept Islam, the Truth, the Only Way.
For the same reason Christians are murdered by Muslims in Egypt, or the Sudan, or Pakstian, or Indonesia -- where there is no problem of adjustment to a culture which "they perceive as alien," the Infidels in the Infidel countries that Muslims have been allowed to move to, and to live in, and even to attempt to settle so that they cannot be dislodged and eventually can come to dominate (which is not a tangential matter -- it is essential to Islam, and is exactly what has happened wherever Muslim populations have gone, and been allowed to live, and, unchecked, to overbreed, to intimidate, and to "dominate and not be dominated" (which are the only two conditions recognized in Islam, and understood by Muslims).
Yes, of course, Muslims are, in the West, in a culture completely different not only from that which they have experienced, but one which they have been taught, up and down and sideways, to hate, and above all else, to hate the Infidels. It is not so much the "culture" itself, as the fact that it is of, by, and for Infidels. The most decadent of Western Infidels is not, in the end, more worthy to be killed than the most pious Christian -- indeed, the ascetic Trappist monk, the farmers in rural North Carolina are not any less Infidel, and thus not any less worthy of being killed, or forcibly converted, or slowlly asphyxiated as dhimmis, than the most debauched habitue of some brothel in Bangkok.
Are these people murdered because Muslims "do not feel at home in what they perceive as an alien culture" or because they wish to murder all Infidels? Surely, the latter reason: the Hindi villager, quietly worshipping Ganesh; the Buddhist monk tending to his Thai temple; the 7-year-old, with her hair newly-braided, and her best (really, her only)dress, taken by her proud father's hand to her First Day of school in Beslan; the Jewish survivor of the Holocaust, who in her one-room studio in Ramat Gan tries to keep old demons at bay, and takes her first grandchild for an outing, is blown up on a bus, along with that grandchild; the Copt who fled Egypt, from which its original inhabitants now must flee or endure the constant humiliation and misery of all non-Muslims under Muslim rule, and who came to America where, one of the the country that was once entirely Coptic, and who, as one of his mourners, Jose Salazar, put it, "All he did was come to this country to work 16 hours a day, driving one hour each way, to give his children a better life."
There are two things here....where we are and where we will go to.
Today, It is important to keep a sense of perspective. If all muslims behaved like your model then there would be unlimited paranoi.
Of course the world is not perfect...but is it all the fault of the muslim...ofcourse not.
The infidel has every right to be comfortable and live in peace...and this must apply all over.
As for tomorrow, the muslim world recognises that Muhammed was a man of immense vision...a man of god....of Allah if you will...the muslim recognises this...and if his "polices" are watered down then ofcourse this will be resisted.

I have a vision of a USME (united states of the ME) but I think that Eurabia and Islamic States of America will come about first.
The Muslim will learn and adapt to/in the West first and then bring the global vision of a stable Islam to the ME.
This will be a mix of Sharia/democracy globally as the majority of people on Earth (Muslims) will demand it.

One cannot be a "devout Muslim" unless one follows Jihad, in Muhammad's own words a "pillar" of Islam.
All the other pillars of Islam were established more than 100 years before Muhammad by his great, great, great grandfather Qusayy and are pagan rites.
Since Islamic scripture specifies predestination there's no need to practice the pagan rites.
