With the Saudi government preparing to convene an international counter-terrorism conference February 5-8, which will include participants from leading state-sponsored terrorism regimes such as Iran – as well as reports by the Saudi Foreign Ministry that the U.S. is sending a large delegation – it is important to review the content of the Saudi media, particularly TV, as it relates to terrorism and hatred toward non-Muslims.
A recent example of hatred for Christians and Westerners is Saudi TV’s coverage of the tsunami disaster. The Saudi embassy in D.C. boasted about the numerous telethons that were held to support victims of the natural disaster. However, these telethons included influential Saudi figures who explained that the celebration of Christmas and New Years is what led to the death of over 150,000 “infidels.”
Ibrahim Al-Bashar, an advisor to the Saudi Justice Minister, spoke on Al-Majd TV on January 5th, and said that the countries hit by the tsunami were being punished by Allah for lying, sinning, and being infidels. Saudi Sheikh Fawzan Al-Fawzan, who taught at the Saudi Supreme Court of Justice, also said to Al-Majd TV on December 31 that Allah's destruction of these countries was timed to coincide with Christmas – a time of rampant fornication and perversion. Saudi cleric Muhammad Al-Munajjid, Imam of the ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz Mosque in Khobar, claimed first to Al-Majd on January 1 that Allah’s took revenge on the "criminals'" celebration - the Christmas holidays - and elaborated on January 6th that “perversions” during the Christmas holidays were to blame.
Sermons from Saudi mosques frequently contain calls to fight non-Muslims. In a sermon from Medina broadcast on Saudi TV channel 2, Sheikh Saleh Bdeir said on June 25: “The enemies of Islam, the Jews, Christians, atheists, and those from among the infidel Westernized who are enslaved by them within the Muslim community, never cease attacking the Islamic nation.” He called to Muslims, “Confront your enemies' efforts with greater and stronger efforts, before these enemies become stronger.”
In the early summer, Saudi Sheikh Dr. Ahmad bin Abd Al-Latif, a professor at Um Al-Qura University, was asked on Saudi TV if it is permitted under Islamic law to pray for the annihilation of Christians and Jews. He answered, "… Cursing the oppressing Jews and the oppressing and plundering Christians and the prayer that Allah will annihilate them is permitted.”
Saudi cleric ‘Aed Al-Qarni spoke on Saudi Iqra TV channel on December 12 about why Jews and Christians will burn in Hell: “The Jews take pride in something they lie about; the Jews and the Christians… They say: 'Oh people, we, the Jews and Christians, are the sons of Allah…' They are lying, [may] Allah's wrath [be] upon them… If you are truthful, will Allah burn you in hell for your sins?… You will be punished for your lies.”
Calling for the throats of Christians and Jews to be slit and their skulls shattered, Al-Qarni told Iqra TV on December 26: "We Muslims should be rebuked. One billion two hundred million … are incapable of taking action … of harming the Jews… I pray to Allah that He will make the enemies fall … and that He will destroy the Jews and their helpers from among the Christians… We curse them … and pray that Allah will annihilate them, tear them apart, and grant us victory over them… Throats must be slit and skulls must be shattered. This is the path to victory, to shahada...” Citing a hadith. In a lecture on January 9th that aired on Iqra TV, Al-Qarni explained that Jews, “the brothers of apes and pigs,” and Christians should not be slaughtered only if they convert to Islam.

I share some good news about S.A.. It appears that due to the deteriorating security situation there, many Western expats are leaving in droves. Just read from stratfor.com (subscription req'd) that Saudi Aramco is already pumping the maximum amount to cash in on the high global prices of oil ($44 per barrel). In other words, they have no excess capacity to pump. When you consider 90% of incoming foreign cash is for oil, you realize how intractable problem that the gov't faces. Add militant Islam, underemployment, corruption and genuine discontent among it's youth to mix and the problem becomes unsolvable. Cracking down on militants justifies OBL's militant doctrines while failure to do so incurs the disdain of Bush and the West with complete economic failure to boot. It appears that the Saudis are reaping what they have sown for years. Good on 'em, the slimeballs. The rooster has finally come home to roost.

Interesting theory pythagorus. The problem is the word in Hebrew is not "kill," which under certain circumstances is OK to do. (Note the story of Pinchas, who killed one of the princes of Israel as he was having sex in his tent with a woman of the Midianites - and praised for it.) The word is "murder," which is an act that is NEVER allowable under any circumstances.

Actually, CornHolio, I think the answer to that solution is not geographical distance, it is an issue of credibility. Islam says it is the final answer to everything. Islam posits that once a land is conquered in Allah's name, it is conquered for time an all eternity. (Sorry to use a Mormon phrase here, but it is an apt usage - hope I haven't offended anyone by doing so.) That being the case, Muslims are deeply offended that Jews have established a State upon, what they view to be, former Islamic soil.
Not only have they established a State, they have prospered in that land and made it bloom like a veritable garden. Need I use the words "widely successful" to illustrate what I mean? Before the Jews stepped foot in the land and made it blossom, Mark Twain visited it and had this to say about the region, then known, as Palestine: "Palestine is a land where the sheep are content to chew on rocks." It was a land of total desolation: desert, swamps and rock gardens.
Now imagine how it must be for a person of the Muslim faith to see this. Jews move into the land, end up building something, drain swamps, plant fields, etc. They are then, through partition, given the land and establish their own State, with their own laws and customs. The Muslims send five armies to attack and demolish them, yet lose to the "infidel." Israel continues to grow, continues to prosper, continues to survive - and all of this underneath Allah's watch. Where is Allah? Why isn't he doing anything to stop them? How come he allowed the Jews to take control of former Muslim lands? How could he allow them to continue to survive - no matter how many times the Muslim armies have come up against them? What is taking place here?
The point here, to my mind, is a crisis of faith. Islam believes that Muslim lands will always be Muslim lands. If the Jews can defeat them in Israel/Palestine, then might not the Christians defeat them in Albania, or Iraq, or Sudan, etc.? And, if others can defeat them and win, then what of Allah? Is he a true god, or a false one? This is more than about land, this is about the survival of Islam to the Muslims. They are afraid of waking up one day and finding out their faith is nothing more than a fantasy blown out by the wind.
What you are seeing here is the deep-rooted underbelly of many Muslim's insecurities. This is why they are so willing to fight to the death in the hopes of winning.
Guess what people you all are paying for these broadcasts!
You all are paying for it everytime you fill up at the petrol pump. They are using the "Petrol Dollars" you give them to broaast these hate preachings, to finance terror, build mosques in your own back yard and bribe people in your country.
One way to divest from terror is to look for alternative fuel sources to fossil fuel.
Boycott Saudi Oil!

Don't blur the materialistic monarchies and dictatorships (Saudi having been strongly supported by the US all the way along) with ordinary people. As you know, in Saudi, some people are trying to remove their dictators (which were put in power in the early 20th century by Britain), but the US gets nervous over this and calls it terrorism. What do you want? Do you want the people to over throw their oppressors or not?
Catherine, I think you've missed out the electricity blackouts in California, the droughts in the US and all those storms and tornados you've been having.
