RIYADH (AFP) – Saudi female users of personal computers are facing the danger of privacy intrusion by men due to the lack of maintenance shops run by women in the conservative kingdom.
Amina, who had desposited her computer for repairs in a shop in Riyadh, was “shocked to receive a phone call from the shop owner asking her about the identity of some women appearing in photos saved on the hard disk,” the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper said Saturday.
He told her that she should save her photos somewhere else “because they are tempting,” the paper said, adding that “he offered her a booklet of Islamic fatwas (religious edicts) as a present when she collected her PC.”
Noura, a university student, discovered that some files were missing when she retrieved her laptop from a repairs shop.
“A few days later I was amazed to find a message in my e-mail inbox including some of the missing files … signed by the shop owner,” the daily quoted her as saying.
