The Taliban justified the opium trade by noting that Muslims didn't use the stuff, only unbelievers; I discuss that in Islam Unveiled. Other scholars have said that such trade is prohibited in Islam. Mufti Munir Shakir, in contrast, seems to be saying that it has beneficial uses.
That, of course, plays into the hands of the Taliban and others who continue to attempt to victimize, and profit from, unbelievers in this way. It's no wonder, seeing the money that comes from drugs, that jihadists look upon the West with contempt. From the Daily Times of Pakistan, with thanks to EPG:
BARA: Mufti Munir Shakir, a renowned religious scholar, has declared the trade of opium “halal,” legitimate, in the light of Islamic teachings during his routine sermon on an unlicensed FM radio station operating in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency the other day....Munir Shakir declared the cultivation and trade of opium legitimate on the grounds that it was mostly used in about 98 percent medication. He said the use of anything that had the potential of having a positive impact and benifit on human beings could not be declared illegitimate and prohibited in Islam.
About two years ago a large Somali Muslim area in a Canadian City was outraged that the Government didn't allow the narcotic Chat( pronounced CAT to Muslims) to be use by them,the plant had leaves that release a euphoric inducing chemical when chewed.
There was a near riot when the Police tried to arrest a Muslim drug pusher that also imported Chat,a mob gathered and chanted anti-police words and it escalated to stone throwing and threarts of death to the two cops. The cops defused the chance of a riot by getting the drug pusher in the back seat and driving off to a safe place,they called a ambulance to tend to them
since there were a few cuts that needed attention.
The Muslim area was near the airport since most of the refugees that land there and go right on welfare and are assured housing under Federal laws. The real irony here is that the same Muslims are claiming the Police are racists for not cracking down on crime and drugs in that exact area,the security cameras that were to be put around high risk areas was denounced by Muslims since it might show a female that didn't have the hijab on and this would endanger her life since she would be attacked and punished for not obeying the Quran.
I really wish I was making this up folks but it has been in the newspapers and every time the Muslims bitch about not being treated equally with crime protection their response to Police programmes to reduce crime is met with cries of
"Racism" since they claim the Police are assuming Muslims are criminals by wanting this programme.
You just can't win with Muslims,they whine that Muslims aren't criminals and then bitch about why there isn't a Mosque or Imam to service the large Muslim populations in Federal prisons.
Yeah, what a convenient 'Religion.' And is it any wonder criminals are converting to Islam in large numbers in Jails all over the world!!Was watching TV coverage from Aceh Indonesia yesterday. An Indonesian Cleric was screaming hatred against Americans [notice they still accept the aid] and raving on about ' the Tsunami being Allah's sign against the CORRUPT NATION OF SATAN!!' How silly sod works this out I don't know as Indonesia admits to 220,000 dead in THE MOST ISLAMIC STATE OF ACEH PRACTISING BLOODY SHARIA LAW...Reckon all those Hijabs,burqas and other heavy garments would have weighed down and killed lots of women and girls. But you can't argue with these fanatics. However, a bullet between the eyes would silence this rabid cleric and the rest of his thugs - they need to be reunited with their lovely Allah ASAP.
This story has the potential -- the potential -- to be the hammer with which to cripple Islamism in the West. Recall America's war on organised crime in the 1930s. King Pins like Al Capone who, by bribing local officials, were able to skirt the law for offences like extortion and murder, were ultimately prosecuted and jailed by the Feds for income tax evasion.
Muslims in the West are successfully immunizing themselves against prosecution for incitement and immigration violations by exploiting anti-discrimination and asylum laws as well as by co-opting politicians with the promise of votes and campaign contributions. But to the extent that the hunger for money to fund jihad and dawa -- as well as a lack of respect for infidel laws -- drives them into activities like smuggling and narcotics, is the extent to which they will become vulnerable to federal prosecution.
On a larger scale of course, we will not be able to defeat radical Islam in the West until we put an end to the pernicious funding -- with recycled Saudi petrodollars -- of mosques, madrassas, and university programmes.
