Mogadishu - Somali militiamen on Wednesday began building a mosque over an Italian colonial-era cemetery where they prompted outrage by unearthing hundreds of skeletons last week.The militia, allied with Mogadishu's Islamic courts, brought in construction workers and building materials, and encouraged area residents to come to the site to pray, residents said.
"We are not ready to pray at the location of dead bodies that human beings are harming," resident Abdinasir Hussien said.
The militia dug up hundreds of corpses last week and threw them into a dump near a Mogadishu airport, drawing a strongly worded protest from the Italian government and from residents of the Somali capital....
Some analysts have speculated that the exhumations were a mesage of opposition to the new government, which has warm relations with Rome and is disliked by the Muslim militants who control the courts.
Most of those disinterred were former Italian colonial officials and soldiers.

This has been a common practice in Iran for many decades. The usual targets are Bahai cemeteries. There are many accounts of government backhoes and bulldozers disinterring the bodies, leveling the land and then erecting mosques and madrassas. The bodies are usually disposed of in mass graves without notification of kin and without revealing their locations. So the desecration in Somalia is nothing new for these people, or as DCWatson so eloquently describes them, "horde of simians".
Another common tactic in Iran is to declare the Bahais as apostates thus nullifying their marriages. That automatically exposes them to the charge of fornication and thus they are eligible for the death penalty. The wives, if not stoned for fornication, are often given to Muslims as new brides and the Bahai children are sent away to live as virtual slaves in Muslim households.
Some of the worst pogroms against the religious minorities in Iran, including Jews, Christians, Bahais and others, were conducted in the 1950s. The 1980s were very bad. In one case in 1983, ten volunteer Bahai "Sunday school" teachers in Shiraz, including teenage girls, were rounded up and summarliy hanged for apostacy.
This is the true face of Shari'a. Why the folks in Europe or Canada would want so eagerly to tolerate its practice within their own societies is beyond my ability to comprehend. It is clearly as pathogenic to the welfare of humankind as Nazism proved itself to be.
Yes, that is the future of Allied Cemeteries -- and indeed of all non-Muslim cemeteries, as well as other institutions and schools and monuments, throughout Eurabia. Why should one expect otherwise? Look at the ruins of Christian (and, to a much smaller extent) Jewish sites. Indeed, in Saudi Arabia there has been a systematic destruction of Muslim sites, Ottoman forts and even sites associated with the early history of Islam. Why should one expect that Eurabia will be any different? Will the canonical texts, and hence the teachings, have changed in any way?
Will there be a "European" Islam as Tariq Ramadan promises? How will the Qur'an, Hadith, and Sira of that "European" Islam differ from the plain old Islam we have today? What precise passages will be deleted, for the benefit of Infidels?

These jerks, which excavated the Italian graves, they also excavated 10 Somali/Muslim big cemeteries. My father’s grave was one of them. Yeah, that is sad and it makes me mad as hell. This is nothing more than land grabbing Militia. Nothing to do with Islam, I am sure they worship money not god. They are rich business men who got rich from the blood of my people, and when they clear the graves from the dead they build hotels, houses and business places. The only reason they are saying they want to build a mosque on this site is, they found out that Italy actually own this land and they can’t profit from it. And they also used the Islamic Courts’ name which made the Islamic court mad and they are afraid of retribution from the Islamic court militia. So, too late, they decided to throw the scent from themselves and they donated the lands to the Islamic courts as an apology to them and said we will build a mosque for you, just leave us be. The Islamic courts spoke at BBC and all Somali own websites, saying that it is not them who excavated these lands but it is the business men who were doing this to the Somali-Muslim graves as well. No they dont. The concept of God in the Christian and Jewish tradition is totally different from the concept of the bloodthirsty allah.
A similar tale of barbarity occurred when Jordan occupied Jerusalem. Jewish graves were desecrated and the tombstones used for latrine floors. It is part of the islamic tradition of removing all traces of any other faith or culture.

This is typical Muslim behavior. They have no holiness themselves, so they must borrow or steal it from others. Hence they tear down churches, synagogues, temples and build their mosques over the ruins.

This phrase about "Jews, Muslims, and Christians" all worshipping "the same god" is nonsense. The conceptions of "God" in each of those religions are different; in the case of Islam, the differences are more important than the similarity of monotheism. Little pieties such as "we all worship the same God" are the stuff of interfaith-racket affairs, but erase all the important distinctions.
Furthermore, Muhammad is at least as important, as uswa hasana, the role model for all Believers for all time, and as al-insan al-kamil, the best of men who could do no wrong, as is the remote, and whimsical, God of Islam.
It is flatly untrue that "Jews, Muslims, and Christians all worship the same God." Goody-goody, comforting, a clever way to win over others, just waiting for such soothing pieties --but if looked at carefully, found to be a complete fiction.

Were muslim graves also excavated? If they were, it would be difficult to say the entire event was perpetrated by Muslims.

And it is true not made up story to cover the shameful act they committed against the Italians. But I also recognize that, as many Muslims are not fully versed in, or accept, every tenet of Islamic text, not every Muslim supports worldwide Islamic conquest. And I am concerned that gullible Muslims are being led down the Islamist path, to the world's detriment, by hardline clerics.

Just so you know. My outrage at the excavation of cemetaries by Somalian militias is not limited to the Christian remains so disrespected. That Yassim's ancestors were also subjected to the same outrageous behavior (if Yassim's story is true), is just as worthy of my outrage, and I expressed my sympathies to Yassim for that.
Yassim's kudos to me were slightly uninformed, in that I don't believe that God and Allah are one and same.
The only part of Yassim's post to which I responed was that of the excavation of cemetaries.

Law and order
Mogadishu was under Italian colonial control until World War Two and many of the graves belong to Italian soldiers and expatriates.
The Islamic courts were set up by businessmen in Mogadishu to bring some semblance of law and order to a city without a police force.
A new Somali government has been named in neighbouring Kenya and it is due to start relocating to Mogadishu on 1 February.
During the 14 years of anarchy, much of the city has been destroyed by looters, who recycle and sell anything they can find - even the metal rods used to reinforce concrete.
The looters mostly work for one of the warlords who takes a cut of their profit.
