Jihad Watch director Robert Spencer writes in the Washington Times about a curious omission during the Rice hearings:
During her Senate confirmation hearings, Secretary of State-designate Condoleezza Rice was grilled about Iraq, weapons of mass destruction and how long the troops would be there. But no one asked her anything about the most important question of all: when, and how, American foreign policy will be adjusted to bring it into line with the goals of the war on terror.Three years after September 11, this has not been done. It should have been the first task of the new conflict. Other nations take this as axiomatic — including those on the other side of the current alignments. Article 3 of the Iranian Constitution stipulates that Iran must base its foreign policy on "Islamic criteria, fraternal commitment to all Muslims, and unsparing support to the freedom fighters of the world."
It is reasonable for any state to base its foreign policy on its overall goals and interests. In fact, I recommend that the United States do the same thing. In regard to the global jihad, this would involve a serious re-evaluation of the American posture around the globe.A few modest proposals to this end: In the first place, it is scandalous that so many years after President Bush announced that you're either with the terrorists or with us, the United States still counts as friends and allies — or at least recipients of its largesse — so many states where jihadist activity is widespread.
A State Department that really had America's interests at heart would immediately terminate all aid to Egypt, Indonesia, the Palestinians, Jordan, Somalia, Algeria,Sudan,Pakistan, Kosovo, Albania — and even Iraq and Afghanistan, and any other state — until each demonstrably ends all support — material, educational, religious — for jihad warfare, and grants full equality of rights to any non-Muslim citizens.
It should also reconfigure our global alliances on the same basis. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the rest should be put on notice that continued friendly relations with the United States absolutely depend on an immediate and comprehensive renunciation of the jihad, including a reformation of their schools to end the teaching of jihad warfare. It cannot be enough for a state to denounce and renounce terror; each must renounce Islamic jihad as a means of undermining the integrity of other states.
To be a friend of the United States, each must renounce entirely any intention to make good on the Islamic goals and responsibilities enunciated by the Pakistani Islamic leader Syed Abul Ala Maududi, who declared that non-Muslims have "absolutely no right to seize the reins of power in any part of God's earth nor to direct the collective affairs of human beings according to their own misconceived doctrines." If they do, "the believers would be under an obligation to do their utmost to dislodge them from political power and to make them live in subservience to the Islamic way of life."
His comments were in full accord with Islamic theology and history, as well as with the Koran as it has been read and understood by Muslims for centuries. This is the goal of the jihadists today; it should be the fundamental defining point of U.S. alliances with Muslim states.
The United States should also immediately initiate a full-scale Manhattan Project to find new energy sources, so that the needed reconfiguration of our alliances can be more than just words.
But does anyone in the State Department have the will to advocate these and other measures? Or is it only regimes like the bloody mullahocracy in Tehran that are allowed to speak openly about their principles and goals, and take all the necessary measures for their own defense?
Miss Rice needs to ask and answer these questions. The State Department's bureaucracy has been playing realpolitik for so long that it reflexively thinks it can play ball with the Islamic jihadists — as if dropping care packages into Indonesia will somehow blunt the force of the Maududi dictum that "non-Muslims have absolutely no right to seize the reins of power."
The State Department needs to come to grips with the fact that it is facing a totalitarian, supremacist, expansionist ideology, and plan accordingly. Not only has it not been done, but it is so far off the table that it never even occurred to the most rabidly partisan Democratic senator, Barbara Boxer, to use it as another stick with which to batter Miss Rice's competence and veracity.
Now it is up to Miss Rice herself to demonstrate whether she has the vision to do what needs to be done.

Replace 'State Department' with the Western World and we are starting to face up to facts.
"We are facing a totalitarian, supremacist, expansionist ideology, and we should plan accordingly" is what should be being said by political leaders around the world.
So far only Robert Spencer has said it. Albeit in a Washington Newspaper.
lets face it Mr. Spencer, Rice, Powell and Bush are not cognizant of the reality of Islamic jihad. They do not comphrend the fundamental civilizational chasm that can never be bridged between Islam and the West.
It's like anyone who grew up in a rough neighboorhood knows, when the toughest guy in the hood comes to you and asks to borrow 5 bucks, he is not asking and no amount of reasoning with him can affect his non-existent sense of reason if you simply don't want or have it to give.
We cannot project Western notions upon an entity, the ummah, that they have absolutely no capacity to ever accept. The Koran's fail-safe mechanisms are absolute and the Moslems mostly willingly embrace it's teachings. So Bush and co. should be taken aside and privately briefed by you or others who fully comprhend the danger and folly of the current approach to the eternal, global, Islamic menace, before we must resort to expulsions.
Please take a look at how the threat was viewed in the 1970's. Talk, talk, and more talk has done nothing but push us further than ever from even naming the threat in any meaningful way.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20050124/D87Q45S80.html
Andrew,
That is exactly the problem, that they misunderstand the jihad ideology completely.
What Mr.Spencer says in the article is absolutely , bang on the mark, but at the same time it is vital that western politicians begin to understand thid, and use their underrstanding of it accordingly. It is emperative that they begin to see islamic Jihad exactly as Mr.Spencer has defined it.... no other way of seeing it will do.
To not do this is a grave, unforgivable mistake of epic proportions, that will spell the end for all of us. It would be on the same scale as if Hitler had been allowed to continue on his route to global dominance and facism, perhaps an even bigger scale.
The big difference of course between nazism and islam, is that islam has the ingenious disguise of religion to hide behind, therefore forcing the liberals of western society into a defensive position, when critisism is directed towards it.... nazism had no such public support. Society as well as the governments of the west need to get a grip on reality as well.
The White House and Pentagon should blow this up to banner size and make sure it's hung on the walls and read every morning before they go kissing Islamic feet in the interest of political correctness.

I don't think our government will learn the truth about islam and I don't think most scientists have read.

There is something there but most here will not belive it. I would not belive it if I didn't know Dr. Miles. The US should take a serious look at cold fusion before the Chinese learn all its secrets. Sorry if this doesn't fit here but you asked about alternate energy sources and I belive this is one such source though I can see where most belive it false.
Rice knows the TRUTH.
Bush knows the TRUTH.
They refuse to publicly acknowlege the TRUTH because to do so would force them to make some very hard, unpleasant choices.
God bless the few like Robert Spencer who lay it out there.
Is'nt the Hegelian Dialectical process just a vehicle for the evil/false/dellusional to corrupt the good/true/reality ?
Thesis +Anti-thesis = Synthesis.
Is this connected to moral/cultural relavatist- moral equivelency perspective. I think so.
Does not any collaborative effort between good and evil(in the generic sense)weaken the good and strengthen the evil? At least by legitimizing the illegitimate?
Accomodation,compromise,convergence.
I think these things were propagated by Soviet/Marxist supporters as a means to cover their support of an evil(again in the broadest definition)system. And sold as open-mindedness, tolerance etc.
And I also think our legitimazation and collaboration with Stalin planted a malignant cancer in our society that our later opposition in the Cold-war could not come to grips with, and that cancer in the form of moral/cultural relavitism and it offshoots has grown and is one of the main obstacles along with an obsession to "get along", "dialogue", and be "tolerant" (with evil) ,the demonization of "discrimination"- a neccessary tool to make informed, objective value-judgements based on available evidence.
One reason for the success of this world-view was the fear of nuclear annihilation,in other words people were coerced into accepting it. And in other words the Soviets/Marxists successfully,if only subconciously, were able to TURN and manipulate large segments of the population into accepting a world-view that was a pre-requisite for evil to advance.
The Soviets/Marxists were/are masters of deception and unmatched in psychological warfare.
The current and growing threat of islam would not exist as it is if it were not for the blurring of the distinctions between good/truth/reality and evil/lie/dellusion that the communists promoted.
The utter absurdity and clear over-whelming brutality of islam is indisputible. Yet it is disputed. By many non-muslims.
Another aspect-- leftists know the truth about islam but in their mind all religions are equally foolish and dangerous. To acknowledge otherwise will in effect raise the legitimacy of their old enemy; Christianity, whom they have also had many successes in corrupting. To single out islam(which is more than a religion) as evil is to contradict and destroy their own identity- they have too much invested in the moral/cultural relavitist perspective, without it leftism is exposed for the totalitarian fraud it is.
While the Left will never get it, the Right still doesn't get it.
The Left remains utterly clueless by not only interpreting jihad as some sort of idealistic global class warfare movement, but continues to "take it out" on Christianity and Judaism, in response to what the jihad movement did on 9/11. One word: Hopeless.
But the Right doesn’t get it either. It still wants to look for evil dictators and rogue governments. Add that to two decades of crafty integration of PC in government places and policies, it will take time before foreign policy language will ever catch up with the 21st century.
Rice knows the TRUTH.
Bush knows the TRUTH.
They refuse to publicly acknowlege the TRUTH because to do so would force them to make some very hard, unpleasant choices.
God bless the few like Robert Spencer who lay it out there.

This issue is far too dangerous to be ignored and if they do know the truth, one must conclude that they are playing Russian Roulette with the security and the future of America. Or perhaps they are all major players in the establishment of the New World Order, a one world, socialist government with no middle class, controlled by the U.N. Today's U.N. is an utter travesty, dominated by third-world thugs who hate the U.S.and work tirelessly to impugn our sovereignty and weaken our power. Everybody knows this, yet we continue to waste millions of dollars supporting them and their brutal regimes. At one point, we had little choice but to play the U.N. game so we could keep up with their latest plots and ploys against America. The U.N. has done nothing to stop war, genocide, famine; its members have contributed greatly to these catastrophes. It's fine for any other member nation to wage war unilaterally, but not the U.S.. They all want our destruction, nothing else.
I voted for Bush because there was no choice, but I do not agree with his immigration policies, which are suicidal, or his refusal to address and acknowledge the deadly threats posed by the putative "religion" of Islam.
George Bush's first responsibility is to protect America from its enemies. Islam is America's enemy. We can fight war after war in the Middle East but if we continue to let muslims immigrate to America, those wars will be waged in vain. Until the people who are responsible for defending this country become cognizant of our real enemy and realize that it cannot be placated, nothing we do abroad will protect America because the enemy is HERE, endlessly propagating.
I learned just how informed and concerned our representatives in Washington are about muslims and Islam after writing to them. Based on their responses to my legitimate fears, they are either egregiously ignorant, or they are tacit supporters of the Islamic fifth column in America. And all of my representatives are REPUBLICANS. A condensed version of their replies to my long list of factual information about Islam and my justified concerns:
"America was founded on the principle of religious freedom. All people are free to practice the religion of their choice in America."
The fact that Islam is a belief system antithetical to American values and government is completely irrelevant to them.
So what else can I surmise but that they are either oblivious to the deadly threat of Islam, or they advocate its advancement and the ultimate destruction of our country? I want to believe they are ignorant, but ignorance in this situation is simply unacceptable and inexcusable.
I'm not just venting my frustrations here; I will continue writing to them until I get some plausible answers to my legitimate questions.
SusanP,
Great post, you do have to wonder don't you. sometimes I find myself thinking the same thing about the UK government, although I really think things are changing for the better, and a massive "kick up the ass" for our immigration policies now our conservative "shadow" government is making strict immigration quotas their primary focus, Labour are going to have to buck up their ideas to contend with such measures (which have 85% of the UK publics support).
Of course I can't speak for the US government, but I'd like to think that they are at least aware of the problem, but keeping tight-lipped about the depth of their knowledge, so as not to let the enemy within get hold of too much first-hand knowledge of their precise plans. This is purely speculation, but can the US government really afford to be as ignorant as they seem by the pathetic "the foundations of america were built on religious freedom.... blah-de-blah-de-bollocks" response you got back.
I don't think they can, but at the same time I don't think it is at all constructive to pretend that islam is a "religion of peace" just for the sake of social peace, and political correctness.
Keep your head up darling, and keep posting those letters, don't take any shit.... they can't keep fobbing us all off with this PC bullshit....
Question: What can be done to fix all this? Answer: Robert Spencer for U.S. President!

Iraqi Confesses to Killing German Designer
BERLIN (AP) -- A 25-year-old Iraqi man has confessed to strangling German fashion designer Rudolph Moshammer, allegedly after the designer refused to pay for sex, police said Sunday.
Moshammer, famed for his extravagant creations sold at a Munich boutique, was found dead early Friday at his villa in the city with an electrical cord around his neck.
The suspect, an Iraqi asylum seeker whom Moshammer allegedly picked up near Munich's main train station, apparently was motivated by financial problems, police investigator Harald Pickert told reporters. Police arrested him at home late Friday. His name was not released.
Police said the Iraqi told them he strangled Moshammer, 64, after the older man reneged on a promise to pay $2,600 for sex after they got to his villa.
He will likely be charged with "murder out of greed," prosecutor Peter Boie said.
The suspect was identified because DNA traces at the scene matched those he had voluntarily given police during a previous criminal investigation in Munich, Boie said. The man has been in Germany since 2001 and worked at a restaurant, officials said.
Moshammer built a reputation for extravagant clothes made of fur, cashmere and silk that he sold at his boutique Carneval de Venise, known as one of Europe's most expensive. His dog, a Yorkshire terrier named Daisy that he took everywhere, was found uninjured at the villa.
Moshammer also was known for his generosity toward the homeless. In 2002, he sold a shirt believed to have been worn by Napoleon Bonaparte at the battle of Waterloo at auction and gave tens of thousands of dollars in proceeds to help the homeless in Munich

The Iraqi, alleged to have trained at Osama bin Laden's camps in Afghanistan and have fought American forces there, is accused of recruiting suicide attackers in Germany and providing logistical help to al-Qaida. He also is believed to have tried to obtain 48 grams of uranium in Luxembourg though authorities said they had no further information about that incident
The Iraqi is believed to have recruited the Palestinian - a Bonn medical student born in Libya who has an Egyptian passport - in September for a suicide attack in Iraq, getting more than $1 million in life insurance for him with the aim of faking the man's death in a car accident in Egypt, according to chief federal prosecutor Kay Nehm. The majority of the insurance payoff was to fund al-Qaida activities, prosecutors said.

We've discussed here many times the effectiveness of writing letters to our elected representatives in government. I remain convinced that it has little or no positive effect Politicians understand not letters and phone calls but demonstrations, public campaigns against them, drops in donations, and friends saying they don't like the sounds people are making in the neighborhoods. Politicians do what they can get away with, not what they should do. Politicians don't respond to individuals, even when those individuals are aamssed as letter writers; politicans respond to groups who represent money and votes. If you represent a group, and if your group can demonstrate that you have power in your community, then politicians will invite you for discussion regardless of how they feel about you. You must form groups and the groups you form must have money and power in your communities. I sum up that argument each time by claiming that governments don't fail people, people fail govcernments. Rain-drops are annoying but with the same volume a water cannon is devastating. If you focus and organize, you'll accumulate power.
How do people focus and organize? I offer this: go to your neighbors with hand-outs on the nature of Islam and jihad, slip notices under their doors if yu're too shy to meet them, and slowly but persistently engage the community in learning about Islam. Gather those who are nervous about it already, those who are sitting alone thinking they're the only ones who are worried. Let them find out for themselves that there are millions of Westerners who do not like the idea of shari'a laws enacted in our schools and colleges and in our communities. Slowly and daily meet people and tell them the truth about Islam.
The problem with the government is the same as that with the media: The media sells a product, and if people don't buy it, the market creates better products. The "Mainstream Media" is, in relity, the voice of the people. Each man and woman speaking and writing is a meduim, and the middle majority is the mainstream of the vox populi. Newspapers and television stations reproduce what they want you to buy, and if you stop buying their products they'll think again and they will follow you. Leaders don't lead: they are pushed from behind. You are the media. If you speak to your neighbors and community members about jihad and the evils of Islam, then if you are a group of united community members focused on that single issue you have the power to make the media speak for you writ large, and you have then the power to stand in the mayor's chambers and tell him he must act or lose his position.
You are the media, and you are the government. But if we continue to act atomically, like rain-drops, then our force is lost and we are annoying at worst.
To organize is to publicize. If the community knows what you stand for they have a choice of accepting or rejecting your position. Consider that most new ideas arfe automatically rejected simply because they are new. I argue that we waste our time trying to convert those who are antagonistic. I argue that we should always approach those who are sympathetic to our cause because in numbers we will draw numbers. to find numbers we must approach those we know and draw them in to our circle and make that circle ripple till we are indeed the mainstream itself.
How do we become community organizers with a clear and focused message we can use to rally our neighbors and community members to the common cause? By leafleting, orgainizing small meetings in coffee bars and by chatting up our work-mates till we come together in larger groups, collections of small groups united as one group with the political power to shut down the mayor and take over the editorial board of the local papers. We do this by forming close alliances with those we attend church with. We do this by bonding with friends and forming sub-committees who have delgates who form ever-larger groups with power and money, even if that is merely money to withold.
Susan P. has canvassed her area of the world successfully, and the results show up here in new readers, in people better able to dismiss from the minds of their fellows the idiot notions of Islam is the religion of peace, et c. because of Susan P's efforts, many people who would never have heard of this site now go into their communities to spread the word further, and we can do the same. We fail our government by not acting as involved citizens. If by our passivity our government is corrupt and dysfunctional it is because we left its workings to others when we should have worked for its continued success ourselves.
If Islam is seeping into our schools it's not because Islam is a good thing or a powerful force but because we don't bother stopping it and eradicating it. We won't have any success in destroying Islam simply by writing letters here. we will have success by gathering in millions of readers to write letters here. We will have success when any dozen people take up therir own interest and form their own group of Western triumphalism, dog-lovers for freedom lobby and girls with short skirts lobby united with all others of all kinds to fight back against Islamic slavery. But to form a group one must meet people to convince them that there is indeed a chance of success. Pay a dollar and form a community organization. In every vote from now till then, mark your ballot with a write-in vote for "Robert Spencer." Use every chance to publicize and gain friends for the struggle to finish off Islam.
You are the government and you are the media. Unite to use your power. rice, Bush, et al will listen to you if you are united and focused. They must listen to you or they will lose their positions. You can make them do your bidding just as well or better than the Moslem lobby makes them act for Islam rather than for the West. Start with your neighbor, go through the paper, end with the president.
As a voice of the past said:
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. ( Benjamin Franklin)
Bush and Rice don't know what's going on? Does anyone seriously believe that an intelligence-gathering structure as massive as the US gov't hasn't clued the president into what is probably the biggest threat to the American way of life? Come on.
Bush is playing the only game he can. It's a slow game. He knows that to raise the red flag on Islam would be disastrous. Every banner headline in the western word would scream CRUSADER and ISLAMOPHOBE BUSH. Every leftist and fence-sitter would holler for his impeachment.
And in reference to the remark that BUsh is off-track going after dictators and thugs instead of Islam itself, what's he supposed to do - start burning mosques and qurans?
I am certain he has only 1 long-range plan to eliminate the scourge of Islam: women voters. Guarantee safe and secret voting rights for muslim women, and you'll begin to see "reform" candidates getting more and more votes.
It's a guess to be sure, but I'll bet that for every devout and submissive-to-allah saudi woman, there are 10 who would like to see a few changes made.
Son Of Walker,
What you say is 100% on target. Thing is though, I dedicate almost every waking moment to spreading the word, sufing the net alerting right wing groups, sport and music forums, feminist groups.... anyone whose passion in life would be directly affected , were sharia law to become our authority.
I get mixed responses, some are overly enthusiastic and angry, true hardcore racists who hate anyone with skin darker than a mug of tea, some listen and accept what I'm saying, other accept some of what I'm saying but doubt the true depth of the proble is as bad as I'm telling them it is.
Some go on the all out left-wing defensive , you know the type " you ignorant , xenophobic, evangalist, nazi , scum..... etc" , some think I'm a paranoid lunatic, and try to fob Jihadwatch off as being either a muslim hate site, or a conspiracy theorist site (or, here's a good one, a "tool for the Republican government to justify it's actions").
Locally I have had some great success converting people: I live in a predominantly white area, where cosmopolitan liberalism and PC is laughed at, and the opposition to out of control immigration is at it's highest. So it's easy to make people see islam for the machete blood cult it is. My family are very cynical about such things anyway (despite some members being old school socialists... but from a time when there weren't many immigrants in the UK) and I've had great success with some members..... my mother however is so niave and I get the reaction from her I do from many others.... like it's not something they care about, because "it doesn't affect them", and they think I'm "obsessed, because I'm always going on about it".
I feel comforted to think that there is a chain reaction going on from JWers, spreading the word around them , and I really do feel that times are changing, and people are just starting to see leftism and PC as something that stands in the way of rational debate.... but we still have a long way to go yet, and time may be running out....
The mindset of our politicians is also a very big worry.... I try to be positive about it but.... y'know!!!
A chain-reaction is just the ticket. When it happens we'll all be standing in the dust and the smoke wondering what happened. And it will happen. We will likely be forgotten when it does, events having over-taken us, and our insights, being common then, will be the norm that no one notices. Till then, outside we sit. I never liked being an insider anyway. Yeah, even my friends think I'm on about nothing. It doesn't matter. We do what we do, and time will tell. It's a good life, this. What can get better than fighting a war against the evil of the century?
I was in Sidcup during the first part of Sept. 01, and across the street from our flat on Friday nights the girls would fill out the club and drink too much till closing time when they'd come out and yell at each other over who was hitting on whose man, and life was the real thing for real people. Soon after the baker at street-level would start with the cinnamon rolls, the smell wafting upstairs. We'd rise and drink coffee and sit out on the roof and watch the town wake up. In the afternoon we walked to the park where the younger folks would play frisbee and I'd go off to pick blackberries along the riverside. After a day of loafing and lazing, off we'd go to the high street grocer for our meal for the evening, ten of us from all parts of the world, crammed into a single flat.
Who wants to give up a quite life in the suburbs for a crazy life of war and danger on the road? Who wants to stay home Friday night to do up leaflets about sharia laws? I'd rather have the girls at the club fuss about me. I like blackberry cheesecake. When it comes down to it, most Westerners like pretty much the same things, and in time they'll realize they have to put away childish things and go to the defence of the Good, even if all that is is sex and food and hanging out with friends in the park and living the life of an irresponsible guy. When primitives threaten that life, the life of the suburbanites, then the chain reaction will come, and then the Sidcup geezers will come out with their mops and brooms to fight.
Islam is a dirty thing, and people won't tolerate it when they see just how dirty it is. But to get them to see it, even when all that would means is they'd simply look, that's the hard part. No one wants to look at this mess that is Islam. It's all over and spreading, and when it finally gets too bad to tolerate, then we'll see Jugoslavia in Kent. I want my tipsy girls and cinnamon rolls. My friends and those around me don't want to see that others are trying to destroy this odd but satisfying sojourn through the mysteries of existence. I like to drink and dance and carry on all night like a boy. I like those naughty girls. And they like life. When the terror comes, the fight will return to the Western soul, and they people in front of the telly will turn out onto the streets to clean up the mess that is Islam. It'll be bakers and secretaries and shop clerks and farmers who come out to fight. Islam will wash away.
The problem we face is that most people don't want to give up the life of leisure and plenty we've fought for for so long. The working classes in the West have won by hard struggle the right to peace and plenty, and it's not fair that they should give it up so soon to do battle yet again simply to keep what's already ours. The working classes would rather bring others to the same benefits of civilzation; but the Moslem world, in a frenzy of hatred in the face of failed empire, are determined to destroy all if they too must go down. We've fought for this day since the Tyler Rebellion, and we deserve our day of rest and plenty. Islam is dying, and they want to make the rest of us suffer because they are humiliated by their failure, by the decay, collapse, and death of the primitive empire they are of. I want to dance all night and lick blackberries off the belly of a tipsy girl from across the street. Moslems want to set off bombs and blow the legs off Polish guys walking down the street in the evening. They want to shoot a man in the head so his eyes pop out. That list goes on. Until it comes home, until people see it outside the door they'll pretend it's not happening at all nearby. They'll take it easy.
I don't care. I do my letter writing because I know that the chain reaction will occur, and when it does they tide will turn and wash away 1600 years of Islamic horror. Our efforts here, though they might seem small, are the sparks of the conflagration to come, to the world-wide purging fire that will consume Islam, to the tidal floods that will wash away the horror. Everyone we meet we plant as a dragon's tooth. They might not realize yet the person they will become, but by our efforts they will indeed become warriors sprung up from the Earth itself.
People need time to internalize ideas, to make them thier own ideas and opinions. We do that by talking and explaining. It can't look like we succeed. Success is internalizing. Once the idea of the war becomes part of the mind-set of the masses, once the man on the street in Sidcup can't remember a time when he didn't hate the thought of Islam, then the day will come when the Great Chain of Being Islamic is shattered, and men and women will dance-- together-- all night.
Madam, may I have that dance?
