A Jackson television station reported that the two men bragged they had contacts at the Mississippi Highway Patrol and could obtain material to produce false driver's licenses and other forms of identification.
Court records indicate they agreed to do so in exchange for cash and heroin from Abu Sayyaf, a radical Islamic separatist group based in the Philippines, WLBT-TV reported.
"The information alleges they could obtain Mississippi drivers licenses, false documents that could be used by terrorists to enter the country, remain in the country, travel in the country," U.S. Attorney Dunn Lampton said.

The truth is that both John Kerry’s paternal grandparents were Jewish and his real name is Kohn.
Of course since kj wrote this about a week ago kj will say it doesn’t matter because it’s “in the past” just like the NYT says when confronted with the lies they print.

Well, I don't hold it against Kerry for not being Irish, and having grandparents surnamed Kohn. I've got a goodly number of Jewish ancestors, too.
What's the big thing about being Irish (not that I have anything against them)? Why the dickens couldn't the Massachusetts senator simply have said, "Look, I'm another American with a mixed ethnic background, and my last name was anglicized (or hibernized?)." There really is something very phony about the man--and not just his political vocation.
What I find amusing is the strain on his mother's side. It is full of famous Massachussets Puritan names such as Winthrop, Forbes and Clark. Clearly the Boston Brahmin air that everyone perceived was not just acquired. The thing is: he is half Central European Jewish and half Massachussets Puritan - both perfectly respectable ethnic groups with much to be proud of. So does anyone doubt that the phoney Irish touch was nothing but a cynical attempt to fish for the Catholic vote?
Oh yeah, and to evoke the ghost of the other JFK, too. However - sorry to be cruel, Johnny - but Jack Kennedy had one thing you did not have: he was good-looking.
Kepha, that's a good point: I do think it would be just fine to have a president with a Jewish background (say, Lieberman). I think it would give fits to the conspiracy nuts on both sides of the issue.

I am not aware of any evidence that suggests that John Kerry ever tried to deceive anybody about his family tree. A Boston Globe story before the election explained how he came to learn that he had Jewish grandparents. It was immigrants like the Kohn/Kerrys who helped to make the United States the great country it is. Why would he try to hide his relationship to them?
