Abbas cleans up PA TV

How long do you think this will last? Search the archives here and you will see how PA TV has been filled with incitements to murder and genocide.

"Abbas demands TV shed violent visuals," from the Washington Times, with thanks to EPG:

JERUSALEM — Newly elected President Mahmoud Abbas has ordered Palestinian television to cleanse its screens of bloody imagery to conform with a new mood of conciliation in the region.

Eulogies to suicide bombers, or "martyrs" as they were known, have given way to "feel-good" nature programs and romantic films. Instead of referring to "martyr operations," suicide bombings are described more neutrally as "explosions."

The changes have been brought in as Israelis and Palestinians prepare for tomorrow's summit in Egypt between Mr. Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

You can be sure that this is only PR. He thinks with the new pressure from Washington to give more of Israel away, this move will convince us that he is actually a moderate. I am not convinced. Israel should not be divided.

Last week I went to a public presentation here in Sydney by Itamar Marcus, of Israel's "Palestinian Media Watch" organization.

He showed a selection of "Palestinian" incitement to antisemitic hatred, as published in "Palestinian" newspapers and school text-books and broadcast over its TV and radio. Most of the vile stuff was pretty new, dated during the first half of January, 2005.

There was video-footage of calumnous propaganda from the pulpits of mosques and insinuated into sports-reporting, music, cross-word puzzles and children's "entertainment".

In his conclusion, he referred (inter alia) to the necessity for "Peace-Education".

I wondered what this might be, but I was unable, in the large volume of questions put to him at the end of his speech, to find out.

Afterwards, a mate of mine there was of the opinion that it meant fully taking over the "Palestinian" and other Arab media, education-systems, etc, for at least 50 years and delivering a non-stop diet of counter-propaganda (i.e. TRUTH-TELLING), every minute of that time, day and night.

However, another person, an older Russian chap, was in no doubt that "Peace Education" for the "Palestinians" can be effectively delivered exclusively via a gun-barrel.

My friend, upon reflection re the sheer unlikelihood of inculcating "Peace Education" through his own, gentler, long-term proposal, had to agree with this gentleman - whose view, at least, was eminently PRACTICAL.

How long will it last? I suppose they might be able to keep their noses clean until Abbas visits the White House.

I recall that in the early days of the Roadmap the US was going to chair a committee to monitor incitement, which was supposed to end at the outset of the first stage. It was a bust because the PLO would not agree to any reasonable definition of incitement, and the US was unwilling to call them on it. I doubt we shall see such a committee reinstated.
