"War is deceit," said the Prophet Muhammad (Sahih Bukhari, IV:52:268-270). He also said that lying was permissible in battle (Sahih Muslim, book 32, no. 6303). Several Muslims have objected to my citing of such passages, and others such as Qur'an 47:4, in connection with cases that do not involve a hot war. These things are only allowed in battle, you see. I would ask them then to explain how they arrived at the conclusion that Abu Bakar Bashir and other jihadists do not believe they are engaged in battle when they are doing things such as appearing in court. A "battle" can be many things besides an exchange of gunfire and bombs, and the Islamic apologists who have taken issue with me well know it.
Anyway, Abu Bakar Bashir contradicts himself below. (Big surprise, I know.) In December 2003 he was defending the Bali bombers as jihadists. Now he says they weren't fighting a jihad. Can you spell taqiyya? From Al-Jazeera, with thanks to Ali Dashti:
Indonesian cleric Abu Bakr Bashir has said the Bali nightclub and Marriott hotel bombings in Indonesia did not follow the rules of jihad that he advocates. The 66-year-old cleric told trial judges on Tuesday that he supported the Islamic holy struggle, or jihad, but that violence should take place only within conflict zones such as Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Philippines.
Referring to the Bali nightclub and Marriott hotel bombings, he said: "I disapprove, if they were regarded as jihad, because they were executed in peaceful or non-conflict zones.
"If the aim were to attack the interests of the United States, the country that has clearly violated and attacked Islam, they should have taken up arms in Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Philippines or other such places."
TAQIYYA!!!! Of course it's jihad. The purpose of jihad is to further the goals of ISLAM, not just to counter one enemy. The purpose of the Bali bombing was to terrorize the Balinese and Australia, the source of most of Bali's tourism.
This isn't rocket science. Bashir's disingenous statement is definitely taqiyya.
Seems to me this Bashir character is being given more importance than he deserves. The taqiyya doctrine is a double edged sword in that even if Bashir were to genuinely recant his foul ideas, there's really no way he could convince his alleged fans that he's not committing Taqiyya when quoting words that don't suit their worldview.
In other words, the ardent proponents of violent jihad will wage barbarism whether or not Bashir approves. When he approves, it'll be taken as gospel truth and when he disapproves...well, its just taqiyya against the infidels, you see!
"Can you spell taqiyya?"
Uhm, no actually I can't. Neither did I know what it meant without googling.
Perhaps, you might consider providing a glossary for those of us ignorant of such terms.

Dear Baasyir:
As a citizen of the United States the nation you repeatedly-- and bogusly-- claim "violated and attacked" Islam, I have a double message for you.
1-)Religions exist on paper and in human the mind--and noplace else. They cannot be physically destroyed in any meaningful sense of the word. Ideas exist outside the physical world; Islam is a collection of ideas (it does no tmatter here whether they are good or bad ideas or a combination of these). Declaring war on Islam is therefore like declaring war on Mathematics or Music.
2-)However, if we DO decide to "violate and attack" Islam, you will be the first one we 'ko'.
This is our promise to YOU!!!!!
Have a terrorist day.
Ugh! He's such a slimeball. I can't bear looking at his face when he's on tv here, and he's on way too often. I also can't stand the way this is being dragged out. Indonesia is not serious about punishing the Bali bombers. It's all a big show.
Yes, we're having to practically learn Arabic these days. Or at least have a good basic vocabulary ... taqiyya, kitman, jihad, haraam, halal, kafur, calipha, umma, jizyah, hijab, burkha, fatwa, dar-al-harb, dar-al-islam, dawa, and on and on and on.
Better to understand the lies, umm, taqiyya.
So this bellicose old Islamic fiend supports the "holy" struggle, does he? If the Bali bombing wasn't jihad, I guess it was just random muslim carnage, perpetrated for the pure pleasure of inflicting death, suffering, pain, and destruction, the favorite pasttime of otherwise indolent muslims. Too bad they can't muster up the energy or motivation for constructive endeavors, but that would be antithetical to Islam.
If they aren't roaming the streets of Europe seeking rape victims, horrid European whores who don't cover their hair thus tempting chaste but horny young muslim males into committing brutal assaults, they're loitering on street corners threatening old ladies or building bombs in basements.
But don't dare bring up the topic of their deranged, sociopathic psyches; they might kill you for that. After all, they are "disenfranchised." I love that excuse, it's so in vogue.
But what can I say, I'm just another Islamophobe.
No, Islamophobe does not adequately describe me. I HATE Islam with a fervent passion. I can think of nothing I detest more than Islam. Is there a word for that?

If the aim of the Bali bombing was to terrify Australians, it failed miserably. Far from being 'terrified', most Australians would have given a lot to get their hands on the pieces of garbage (like this vicious old troll) who organised it. Australians continued to holiday in Bali and will do so in the forseeable future.
And if Bashir isnt careful, maybe some angry Australians will carry out a jihad against him and his moronic followers.
Many Australians would love nothing better than to 'attack and violate Islam', with this vile old bigot as the first target.
"Too bad they can't muster up the energy or motivation for constructive endeavors, but that would be antithetical to Islam"
Susan, good point. They're too busy praying 5 times a day, washing and shaving their private parts, beating their wives, plotting and planning death and destruction to the West, and sitting around blaming the West and everyone else for the fact they live in a 3rd world dump. Islam is a barrier to productivity and creativity. Since it was created for the sole purpose of one man's deviant and greedy desires, he didn't want his henchmen wasting their time on creative or productive pursuits. It would take away precious time and energy from all that raping, pillaging and looting. These days, it's the Islamic country's leaders who do the raping, pillaging and looting of their country's wealth and people because that's all they know.

Ah yes, it would be interesting to see a few
Aussies face to face with a few brave jihadi souls. Field-Marshal Rommel, who knew what he was talking about, used to say that Aussies and New Zealanders were the best soldiers he had ever fought, except that the Aussies were too undisciplined. I reckon our heroes of the faith would find out a bit more than they liked.
CGW: Done. Thanks for the reminder.
Paolo: We've worked on the discipline thing, and have buffed out any rough edges since then. Problem is, for the ragtag Indon jihadis, their idea of bravery is to sneak a bomb into a nightclub of holidaymakers, well away from any Aussie soldiers. I suppose they know they wouldn't stand a chance in a mano al mano fight.
