Joel Mowbray at TownHall (thanks to Nicolei) on Fox's dhimmitude and CAIR's inconsistency:
What has Fox’s hit TV show “24” done to prompt TV Guide to report “24 in Hot Water” and Entertainment Weekly to ask, “Has ‘24’ Gone Too Far?”?Its bad guys are terrorists who are… Muslims. That’s it.
Few of us need reminding that we are not simply waging a war against terror, but against the radical Islam that animates the enemy. The enemy is not coincidentally Muslim, but they are the enemy because their radicalized version of Islam tells them to be. “24,” so far at least, understands that.
An aside: Neither Mowbray nor anyone else has yet produced a non-radicalized version of Islam that is convincing enough on Islamic grounds to neutralize the growth of terrorist movements.
Instead of kudos, though, “24” has courted considerable controversy. Making the most hay has been CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which bills itself as “America's largest Muslim civil liberties group.” A CAIR spokesman complained to Entertainment Weekly, “They are creating a new stereotype.”What “new” stereotype? Muslims as terrorists? Blame the news for that one. Wait, no, blame the Jihadists the world over who still wish “death to America.” No one, including “24,” is claiming that all Muslims are terrorists, but as “24” Executive Producer Joel Surnow told Entertainment Weekly, “Muslims are the terrorists right now.”
Facts be damned, Fox bowed to CAIR’s scare tactics and agreed to air a public service announcement, with “24” star Kiefer Sutherland directly addressing the camera. Unfortunately, the spot included a line that may not be entirely true: “the American Muslim community stands firmly beside their fellow Americans in denouncing and resisting all forms of terrorism.”
It’s not considered polite to suggest that some American Muslims might not be with us, but there is too much evidence to ignore in the name of political correctness. The radical Islam we are fighting is not found only in places like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, but right here inside our borders.
Virtually ignored by the entire mainstream media last week was a groundbreaking 67-page report issued by human rights group Freedom House, which detailed the poisonous contents of Saudi-funded and sponsored materials found in prominent American mosques.
On mosque library shelves were vitriolic Saudi screeds urging Muslims to, among other things, completely dissociate themselves from the “infidel” society, including refusing military service and citizenship. Other materials encourage Muslims to “curse” Jews and Christians, and still others encourage outright violence.
Many, or even most, mosque-goers may not be brainwashed by such bloodthirsty teachings, but is it even possible that such materials could be found in prominent American mosques if the entire Muslim community truly “stood firmly beside their fellow Americans”?
One group of Muslims that has not denounced “all forms of terrorism” is the one that pushed Fox to air the tolerance-touting ad: CAIR.
When four Americans were murdered (and burned, hanged, and mutilated) in Fallujah last year, CAIR pointedly refused to condemn the murders, only saying that mutilations were contrary to Islam—a position almost identical to infamous Fallujah cleric Sheikh Khalid Ahmed.
The Washington Post in November 2001 asked a CAIR spokesman to condemn Hamas or Islamic Jihad. He refused, explaining, “It’s not our job to go around denouncing.” Asked a similar question about Hamas and Hezbollah by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in February 2002, CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper called such queries a “game” and added, “We’re not in the business of condemning.”
Worse still, for several months after 9/11, CAIR even refused to condemn Osama bin Laden for the murder of 3,000 Americans.
Veteran fans of “24” know from the three previous seasons that the ultimate enemy might still be off-camera. But all of us know that an organization that refuses to condemn the enemy is the enemy.
WTF? I thought 24 was highly understated, all 'terrorists' were highly westernised. No longe beards, no arabic translations, no hijab or burqas for the women. In series 4, I don't remember the word Islam being mentioned, although I did hear, once, the word Muslim.
God forbid, imagine the furore if Fox was to air an accuratly portrayed terrorist?
Cairs prominence is self destructive,by putting the pressure on to condone a story line that pales in comparison to real life scenario's.
They would better off leaving this alone in anticipation that viewers would acknowledge this as terroristic behaviour instead of the real evil which is much more horrid.
I wish that just once someone would have the guts to tell the truth -- come what may:
"Hi, my name is Keifer Sutherland. As you know 24 is a program, critically acclaimed in its contempory portrayal of the real risk we face fighting terrorism in our world today.
There is a concern and an outcry among certain viewers regarding our casting approach and plot line.
Let me make one thing clear for all of you:
Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslim.
Thank you ...
If Islam did not exist, would the Department of Homeland Security exist? And how much money would American save if Islam did not exist?
I demand that my representatives in Congress and the Senate rename this Department. The specific aim is NOT Homeland Security, the aim is domestic defense against Islamic terrorists, Islamic mass murderers and Islamic conspirators against the United States, jihadists, whatever you want to call them. The new name:
DEPARTMENT OF DOMESTIC ANTI-JIHAD
Dont forget to tune in too tonights episode of "24" starring moslem extremists bent on your destruction.
One of my online friends works on the FOX grounds, as part of security there. They've been having troubles with violence against the place and people, since this season began. *light bulb!* I wonder if he could ask Keifer Sutherland how he felt about making this statement? Hmmmm....
He probably felt more like Kaffir Sutherland than Kiefer Sutherland. (thanks Bob G!)
The word *muslim* was spoken one time in the show. Remember when the boy's girlfriend asked if his parents didn't approve of her "because I'm not muslim?" Other than that line there has been no other mention of islam other than "the cause", I wonder if this was the original script.
Come now, let's not exaggerate. Not all terrorists are muslim - although the vast majority are, and certainly the best equipped and most intransigent are. But not all. That does bear saying.
Geoff
Don't forget it was Theo Van Gogh that was murdered for using Quranic verses projected on a female body,Muslims weren't outraged at the welts and beatings female Muslims go through under oppressive Islamic Nations.
Even CAIR USA tried to censor the Canadian network that carried the show,CAIR is the same group that demands Sharia-law for female Muslims in Canada and demands that Al-Jazeera Arabic
be allowed in Canada un-censored.
CAIR accepts the Jew-Bashing networks but
don't you dare tell the truth about actual Terrorism threats by a know Islamic group
bend on destroying democracies.
Wait a minute. I thought all the bad guys on 24 were buddists. doh!
I think the war on terror will be the end of political correctness, or else political correctness will be the end of US.
Just watched this weeks episode of 24, it begins... seems as though the real bad guys are...guess who? Bad caucasian men of what ilk? Neo-nazis maybe? Capitalist pigs with a vendeta? We will have to tune in next week. And the CAIR B.S. was after the show this week, but we are still told how wonderful muslims are in the community...why they're damn near necessary for our happiness.
sp. vendetta
I just found a Canadian Islamic group that
tops the CAIR story on failing to denounce the actual Muslim Terrorists.
Believe it or not folks here's a link to Muslims
that want terrorists and criminal to get their Canadian citizenship,or if they lie on past terrorism activity they shouldn't be stripped of it because that would violate the Charter of Rights by having two classes of Citizens.
The Muslim lawyer feels that since Canadian born persons can't be deported or lose Citizenship then Naturalizm Citizens are second-class Canadians. They are saying that any of the 6.5 billion people outside of Canada can come here
and get their Citizenship which can never be revoked for any past crimes.
If you check the archives for this group you'll see that they are the same ones that bitched about
U.S. border checks for Muslims crossing from Canada, this will only re-enforce the perception of a threat from Canada since Muslims now want terrorists to be given Citizenship.
The Liberals will get us killed,CAIR demands Sharia-Law for female Muslims, the CIC demands that anybody can get Citizenship and not lose it for a murderous past of terrorism.
Maybe the plan is to get Saddam and Osama into Canada and set up an Islamic State,Saddam gets the Oil feilds to start a UN "Food 4 Oil" program
and Al-Qaeda hires the Khadr Clan to train terrorists for cross-border warfare into the USA.

First there was CAIR-Canada demanding unchecked entry to the USA for Muslims not born in Canada, they CAIR-USA demands a Canadian TV network censor the Fox show 24 by adding the PSA
since I guess they assume all non-Muslims are uneducated slack-jawed idiots that need to be told
the show isn't real,it's fantasy and there are no Muslim terrorists in America.
Unfortunately, it is from Sutherland's grovel message that many Americans will get their opinion on Muslim terrorism. And from TV Guide, and Entertainment Weekly. Australians, too, when that episode of '24' gets aired here later on in the year. It will be interesting to see if they air the grovel message here too.
A lot of people aren't all that curious by nature. They're perfectly happy to sit back and get info from the TV, rather than spend the time digging around. So this is the last thing Fox should have done. Given in to, of all groups - the American branch of Hamas. CAIR.
Can someone help me find a fax # and or an e-mail address to someone important at Fox? I would even settle for a phone # at this point.
OK, here we go, this was all that I could come up with to start with. I am going to send an opinion, hopefully just one of many.
