One has to wonder when the local populace in Iraq will begin rise up wihtout fear against these beasts of satan? Using a down-syndrome child as a suicide bomber is the equivalent of using a 5 year old child to do their filthy work.

I guess they're running out of people to convince that blowing themselves up is a good thing. This should be seen as a good sign. Its unfortunate for the 19 yr old and his family, my condolences and prayers go to them in their suffering. New techniques of the "resistance".
I strongly believe that terrorists are cowards but the cowardice you’re going to see in this story is just exceptional.
The suicide attack that was performed on an election center in one of Baghdad's districts (Baghdad Al-Jadeedah) last Sunday was performed using a kidnapped "Down Syndrome" patient.
Eye witnesses said (and I'm quoting one of my colleagues; a dentist who lives there) "the poor victim was so scared when ordered to walk to the searching point and began to walk back to the terrorists. In response the criminals pressed the button and blew up the poor victim almost half way between their position and the voting center's entrance".

I couldn't believe the news until I met another guy from that neighborhood who knows the family of the victim. The guy was reported missing 5 days prior to elections' day and the family were distributing posters that specified his descriptions and asking anyone who finds him to contact them.

When a relative of mine (who has a mental handicap due to an Rh conflict at birth) told me a month ago that a group of men in a car tried to kidnap him as he was standing in front of the institution he periodically visits to get medicine and support waiting for his brother; I thought that he was imagining the whole story.
He said that they tried to force him into the car telling him not to be afraid and that they're from the "mujahideen and not going to hurt him". My relative, despite his handicap was moved by his survival instinct and managed to run away.
After I heard the other story, I began to connect between the two stories and to consider my cousin's story as a true one that uncovered a new miserable war technique that can come only from the sickest minds.

What a huge difference there is between those who kidnap and use the mentally handicapped to perform their murders in cold blood and between the brave Iraqis who sacrificed their lives to protect their brethren. one story that is famous now in Iraq is about one brave Iraqi (A'adel Nasir) who saw a suspicious looking guy walking around a polling center in (Al- Hurriyah) district and soon the brave man realized that the suspicious guy was trying to commit a suicide attack; he ran towards him, wrestled him and knocked him down causing the bomb carried by the terrorist to explode, sacrificing his own life and saving the lives of the people standing in line at the gate of the voting center. It turned out later that the terrorist carried a Sudanese id.
Now, the school that hosted the voting center on the 30th carries the name of A'adel Nasir, as the Iraqi minister of education announced today.

The pathetic terrorists are breaking one world record after another in cowardice and insanity and this tells how bankrupt they're getting.

More people than ever in the United States reported participating in organized volunteer work over the last year, according to a federal report released yesterday.

About 63.8 million people did volunteer work in the year ending in September 2003, an increase of more than 6 percent from the 59.8 million from the year before, according to the report by the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics. The percentage of all people 16 and older who volunteered increased from 27.4 percent to 28.8 percent, the report found.

The report was based on a new supplement to the Current Population Survey, a monthly government survey of 60,000 households that focuses on employment trends among people 16 and older. Respondents were counted as volunteers only if they performed unpaid volunteer activities through an organization. Participants in the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps, two government-sponsored service programs that pay their members, were not included, for instance.
Although the new report offers statistics, it does not include an analysis explaining the increase in volunteerism.

John M. Bridgeland, director of the USA Freedom Corps, the Bush administration agency that operates a clearinghouse of volunteer service opportunities, attributed the increase to President Bush's emphasis on volunteerism after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

"The president really hoped in the aftermath of 9/11 that this was a unique moment in history," he said. "And the question was, 'Could we sustain this spirit of service and patriotism to help marshal the talents of citizens to meet our toughest needs?' Not only does it look like we are sustaining it, but we're increasing it."

Robert D. Putnam, professor of public policy at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, said the overall rise in volunteerism was small. It is too soon to tell whether there are any long-term cultural changes afoot, he said. But Putnam, author of the book "Bowling Alone," which documented the decline of civic connections between Americans, said it may be significant that the report found volunteerism among teenagers increased from 26.9 percent to 29.5 percent.

"Late adolescence is the time, for political kinds of things, when we're most open to being influenced by our environment," he said. "Therefore, 9/11 was most likely to have had its effect on young people. . . . It would be a big deal if we could raise the level of civic engagement among young people. It's like making an investment and you get returns over the next 50 years. But you can't tell from just one year's numbers."

Among the survey findings were that 35- to 44-year-olds were the most likely to volunteer, with 34.7 percent of that group participating. The least likely were those in their early twenties (19.7 percent) and those 65 and older (23.7 percent).

However, senior citizens who volunteered devoted more time than volunteers in other age groups, the report found. Half of all volunteers 65 and older volunteered for at least 88 hours during the year, while the figure for all age groups was 52 hours.

The most common reasons for not volunteering were lack of time, medical problems and family responsibilities or child care problems, the report found.

1. A federal court may refuse to issue a writ of habeas corpus where the facts alleged in the petition, if proved, would not warrant discharge of the prisoner. P. 24. [p2]
2. Presentation to the District Court of the United States for the District of Columbia of a petition for habeas corpus was the institution of a suit, and denial by that court of leave to file the petition was a judicial determination of a case or controversy reviewable by appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and in this Court by certiorari. 3. The President's Proclamation of July 2, 1942, declaring that all persons who are citizens or subjects of, or who act under the direction of, any nation at war with the United States, and who during time of war enter the United States through coastal or boundary defenses, and are charged with committing or attempting to commit sabotage, espionage, hostile acts, or violations of the law of war, "shall be subject to the law of war and to the jurisdiction of military tribunals," does not bar accused persons from access to the civil courts for the purpose of determining the applicability of the Proclamation to the particular case; nor does the Proclamation, which in terms denied to such persons access to the courts, nor the enemy alienage of the accused, foreclose consideration by the civil courts of the contention that the Constitution and laws of the United States forbid their trial by military commission. 4. In time of war between the United States and Germany, petitioners, wearing German military uniforms and carrying explosives, fuses, and incendiary and time devices, were landed from German submarines in the hours of darkness, at places on the Eastern seaboard of the United States. Thereupon they buried the uniforms and supplies, and proceeded, in civilian dress, to various places in the United States. All had received instructions in Germany from an officer of the German High Command to destroy war industries and war facilities in the United States, for which they or their relatives in Germany were to receive salary payments from the German Government. They also had been paid by the German Government during their course of training at a sabotage school, and had with them, when arrested, substantial amounts of United States currency, which had been handed to them by an officer of the German High Command, who had instructed them to wear their German uniforms while landing in the United States. Specification 1 of the charges on which they were placed on trial before a military commission charged that they,
being enemies of the United States and acting for . . . the German Reich, a belligerent enemy nation, secretly and covertly passed, in civilian dress, contrary to the law of war, through the military and naval lines and defenses of the United [p3] States . . . and went behind such lines, contrary to the law of war, in civilian dress . . . for the purpose of committing . . . hostile acts, and, in particular, to destroy certain war industries, war utilities and war materials within the United States.
Held:
(1) That the specification sufficiently charged an offense against the law of war which the President was authorized to order tried by a military commission; notwithstanding the fact that, ever since their arrest, the courts in the jurisdictions where they entered the country and where they were arrested and held for trial were open and functioning normally. Ex parte Milligan, 4 Wall. 2, distinguished. Pp. 21, 23, 36, 48.
(2) The President's Order of July 2, 1942, so far as it lays down the procedure to be followed on the trial before the Commission and on the review of its findings and sentence, and the procedure in fact followed by the Commission, were not in conflict with Articles of War 38, 43, 46, 50 1/2 and 70. P. 46.
(3) The petitioners were in lawful custody for trial by a military commission, and, upon petitions for writs of habeas corpus, did not show cause for their discharge. P. 47.
5. Articles 15, 38 and 46 of the Articles of War, enacted by Congress, recognize the "military commission" as an appropriate tribunal for the trial and punishment of offenses against the law of war not ordinarily tried by courts-martial. And by the Articles of War, especially Article 15, Congress has explicitly provided, so far as it may constitutionally do so, that military tribunals shall have jurisdiction to try offenses against the law of war in appropriate cases. Pp. 26-28.
6. Congress, in addition to making rules for the government of our Armed Forces, by the Articles of War has exercised its authority under Art. I, § 8, cl. 10 of the Constitution to define and punish offenses against the law of nations, of which the law of war is a part, by sanctioning, within constitutional limitations, the jurisdiction of military commissions to try persons for offenses which, according to the rules and precepts of the law of nations, and more particularly the law of war, are cognizable by such tribunals. And by Article of War 15, Congress has incorporated by reference, as within the jurisdiction of military commissions, all offenses which are defined as such by the law of war and which may constitutionally be included within that jurisdiction. Pp. 28, 30.
7. This Court has always recognized and applied the law of war as including that part of the law of nations which prescribes, for the [p4] conduct of war, the status, rights and duties of enemy nations as well as of enemy individuals. P. 27.
8. The offense charged in this case was an offense against the law of war, the trial of which by military commission had been authorized by Congress, and which the Constitution does not require to be tried by jury. Ex parte Milligan, 4 Wall. 2, distinguished. P. 45.
9. By the law of war, lawful combatants are subject to capture and detention as prisoners of war; unlawful combatants, in addition, are subject to trial and punishment by military tribunals for acts which render their belligerency unlawful. P. 30.
10. It has long been accepted practice by our military authorities to treat those who, during time of war, pass surreptitiously from enemy territory into our own, discarding their uniforms upon entry, for the commission of hostile acts involving destruction of life or property, as unlawful combatants punishable as such by military commission. This practice, accepted and followed by other governments, must be regarded as a rule or principle of the law of war recognized by this Government by its enactment of the Fifteenth Article of War. P. 35.
11. Citizens of the United States who associate themselves with the military arm of an enemy government, and with its aid, guidance and direction enter this country bent on hostile acts, are enemy belligerents within the meaning of the Hague Convention and the law of war. P. 37.
12. Even when committed by a citizen, the offense here charged is distinct from the crime of treason defined in Article III, § 3 of the Constitution, since the absence of uniform essential to one is irrelevant to the other. P. 38.
13. Article III, § 2, and the Fifth and Sixth Amendments of the Constitution did not extend the right to demand a jury to trials by military commission or require that offenses against the law of war, not triable by jury at common law, be tried only in civil courts. P. 38.
14. Section 2 of the Act of Congress of April 10, 1806, derived from the Resolution of the Continental Congress of August 21, 1776, and which imposed the death penalty on alien spies "according to the law and usage of nations, by sentence of a general court martial," was a contemporary construction of Article III, § 2 of the Constitution and of the Fifth and Sixth Amendments, as not foreclosing trial by military tribunals, without a jury, for offenses against the law of war [p5] committed by enemies not in or associated with our Armed Forces. It is a construction which has been followed since the founding of our government, and is now continued in the 82nd Article of War. Such a construction is entitled to great respect. P. 41.
15. Since violation of the law of war is adequately alleged in this case, the Court finds no occasion to consider the validity of other specifications based on the 81st and 82nd Article of War, or to construe those articles or decide upon their constitutionality a so construed. P. 46.

The Court met in Special Term, on Wednesday, July 29, 1942, pursuant to a call by the Chief Justice having the approval of all the Associate Justices.
The Chief Justice announced that the Court had convened in Special Term in order that certain applications might be presented to it and argument be heard in respect thereto.
In response to an inquiry by the Chief Justice, the Attorney General stated that the Chief Justice's son, Major Lauson H. Stone, U.S.A. had, under orders, assisted defense counsel before the Military Commission, in the case relative to which the Special Term of the Court was called; but that Major Stone had had no connection with this proceeding before this Court. Therefore, said the Attorney General, counsel for all the respective parties in this proceeding joined in urging the Chief Justice to participate in the consideration and decision of the matters to be presented. Colonel Kenneth C. Royall, of counselor the petitioners, concurred in the statement and request of the Attorney General.

In these causes, motions for leave to file petitions for habeas corpus were presented to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, which entered orders denying the motions. Motions for leave to file petitions for habeas corpus were then presented to this Court, and the merits of the applications were fully argued at the Special Term of Court convened on July 29, 1942. Counsel for petitioners subsequently filed a notice of appeal from the order of the District Court to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, and they have perfected their appeals to that court. They have presented to this Court petitions for writs of certiorari before judgment of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 347(a). The petitions are granted. And to prove a point by those that are offended when checked at the border or at customs: if given a chance, anyone will be used in this manner. to be at that polling station,I posted a comment at JW and another regular JW user questioned the validity of the article.

Glad this item didn't fad away like some of the atrocities that Muslims adamantly deny as being connected to Islam.
I did forward the article to CAIR by way of the "email this story" feature and no doubt it wasn't even read or taken seriously, the silence from Hooper and his posse of yahoo's only help to prove that his claims of Islam meaning peace is just the veneer that gets used to fool non-Muslims so they don't see the real Islam hidden

I generally think it is not a good idea to feed trolls so I won't address Nasseem directly. I would like to point out that he tries to negate my post by simply saying that he doesn't know how I could possibly know anything about Islam and then he simply does not answer my questions. A typical tactic.

I have lived with and worked with many fine Muslims who would absolutely condemn this act. I know that as humans the great majority of Muslims don't want to see an innocent Down's Syndrome kid get viciously murdered to further the Islamic Jihad, but the fact remains that it was an Islamic jihad that killed the kid. I'm always amazed at how self-professed "Good" Muslims attempt to promote the goodness of Islam by pointing out that Islam has slaughtered less people than other faiths.
In fact,they'll kill you for accusing islam as being a malevenant faith of war and oppression.

Sorry Naseem,you're better off keeping quite,after all,the the Bible states that "Even a fool can appear wise if they keep quite".

Third world countries, almost exclusively muslim, are the least environmentally conscious while at the same time practice the least amount of birth control. This combination is killing the planet.

Third world peoples slash and burn ancient forests and dump toxic pollutants into the air, streams and rivers.

Liberals point their fingers at the US but the US is the most environmentally regulated and it's people the most environmentally conscious anywhere to be found in the world.

The planet is under assault and it's from the third world, mostly muslim countries. They don't care about pollution or the greenhouse effect, on the contrary, they don't give it a second thought. It's hard to imagine why they keep producing more children and then blame the West when they can't feed or clothe them, it's bizarre to say the least.

It may be that the tsunamis and earthquakes that are happening in these lands are the result of the Earth thinning out the populations in these lands in an attempt at self preservation.

We need to help the planet, let nature run it's course. No more aid or help in the future to these lands when the Earth practices self defense.
