That is, to murder her. From "Militants Threaten to Kill Journalist," from AP, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Islamic militants have threatened to kill an Italian journalist abducted in Iraq by Monday unless Italy agrees to withdraw its troops, according to a statement on the Internet. The statement, which appeared Saturday on an Internet bulletin board that serves as a clearinghouse for messages from extremist groups, said Giuliana Sgrena, 56, would be subjected to the "rule of God," a phrase that usually means punishment by death in the lexicon of Islamic militant groups.
There was no way to verify the authenticity of the statement.
"We in the Jihad organization in the land of the two rivers announce that the rule of God will be carried out on the Italian hostage after 48 hours if the Italian government headed by (Italian Prime Minister Silvio) Berlusconi the criminal does not announce Italy's withdrawal from Iraq."
"Rule of Allah" means murder, eh? How nice of them to admit that. Saves us the trouble.
The Italians have shown much bravery in the face of the enemy. This situation reminds me of the courageous Fabrizio Quattrocchi.
May the Italians continue their resolve in the face of the evil jihadists.
Iraq has now resorted to parade captured 'insurgents' on TV, surrounded by masked men with guns(just like the terrorists) and forces them to confess publicly. This may be quite effective as it shows these cowards for what they are( tearful winching little bastards) and it does encourage the general population to assist the Iraqis and the US forces to catch more of them.
Needless to mention that Amnesia International has already cought on to it and sees "concern for the human rights of these individuals'...
TERMINATOR
Iraq should be congratulated on showing these cowardly Murderers as they are on Screen with all the World watching. Capture of this Journalist like the Death of Margaret Hassan makes a mockery of Islam's claim NOT to wage war against helpless women and children.
Ted is wrong in the case of this woman. She is a Communist writing for a Communist newspaper (Il Manifesto, as in Manifesto of the Communist party - geddit?) and no better than any dhimmi propagandist. You should see how quickly the anti-American lot in Italy started sending crawling messages to the murderers, telling them that "she is a woman of peace" and "a friend of the Iraqi people"; grovelling scum. She has nothing to do with Quattrocchi, who was a right-winger, and who was brutally defamed by her paper at the time of his death - her fellow dhimmis even managed to prevent this hero having a state funeral. Whatever happens to her now she has more than deserved.

Is it possible that it was her that they meant when they sent us that picture of a barbie doll a few days ago?
This journalist writes for a communist newspaper. I hope this episode will help to open the eyes of the left to the brutal and totalitarian nature of the Islamic movement. The insurgents in Iraq have in effect declared war on the Iraqi working class and plots to kill as many of them as possible on a daily basis. A bona fide communist and orthadox Marxist would not be symapathetic to such a reactionary backward ass movement.
But unfortunately the " left " has been swamped by Lenninism..anit-imperialism...political correctness...and now Islamic nonesense to the point Marx & Ingles would no longer recognise it.
If what is left of the communist/socialist movement does not return to it's senses then it will be erradicated off the face of the Earth by a tide of Islamic brutality if nothing else. Not to mention standing shoulder to shoulder with religious fanatics in Iraq as they slaughter the working class.... Then again when Lenin was imbraced the so-called communist had already left the camp of the working class.
Nossy
Good catch, Paolo. I didn't look before leaping. I would not wish her ill, however.
There are rumblings that she may be released by the makeshift Sharia court because she "is not a spy":

Perhaps this will be one of those moments -- like the antics of Ward Churchill -- that further define and demonstrate that the Far Left has sympathy with the enemy. Perhaps the Left will officially become the new Dhimmi Peoples. Maybe they can wear special badges on their coats that say "Protected."
