Israel Scraps Peace Talks after Mortar Attack

"War is deceit," said the Prophet Muhammad (Sahih Bukhari, IV:52:268-270). He also said that lying was permissible in battle (Sahih Muslim, book 32, no. 6303). If the Israelis had taken into proper account the abundant evidence that the Palestinians take the words of Muhammad quite seriously, they might not have placed much hope these truce talks in the first place.

From The Scotsman, with thanks to Shiva:

Israel cancelled a meeting with Palestinian negotiators today following a mortar attack on a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip.

A Palestinian official said Israel called off the meeting in response to the flare-up in violence. It was not immediately clear when the meeting would be rescheduled.

The talks were meant to follow up on Tuesday’s summit, where the Israeli and Palestinian leaders shook hands called for an end to four years of fighting.

Today’s meeting was expected to discuss the work of new joint committees that are to coordinate the planned release of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel and an Israeli military pullout from West Bank population centres.

Palestinian militants fired a barrage of mortar shells at a Jewish settlement in the southern Gaza Strip early today in the first serious breach of the ceasefire declared at the Red Sea summit.

Ladies and gentlemen, refer to your Bibles. There will never be peace in this region.

There has never been a chance for peace with barbarians.

At Best, these jokers wanted to claim they were 'driving out' the settlers who would have been leaving anyway.

But this was expected. They will Always insist that Israel stop shooting 'first' (which was never the case, it has always been self-defense). And even if things did manage to go ahead, you can Bet there would be one last round of attacks at the last moment, so they could continue to claim they drove them out.

(and kj- Can you explain to me why Clarke, Albright, Berger and even Clinton offer contradictory (and well-documented) statements on the Sudan offer and Bin Laden? Once you explain how they said it in front of witnesses, but didn't say it...)

I was asked what I thought, I said the extremists will scupper it because Al Queda need this conflict to stoke up anger against the USA in Iraq as they are at last losing there, so I was not surprised on this attack. The next move is for the PA, will they increase security or not...?

Is anyone surprised...

There are other reports as regards this event.
To avoid embarassment one should be know about them and be ready to deal with the issues raised.

For instance the attack was described as the result of 'human error' involving a failed test by an Israeli weapons manufacturer in the area. It was made clear - some might say too clear - that although the failed test took place on an IDF firing range and was by a weapons company closely associated with the IDF, the IDF had nothing to do with it. And From Ha'aretz

Gary you are an idiot. A kafir version of the Muslim Jihadi.

You alienate allies.

You play the same game of Tu Qoque that the Muslims play.

You live in a narrow world of my team v your team.

Don't you get it? This Dem v Repub, blue team v red team crap is a ruse to distract the rubes.

A quick example or two. The PATRIOT Act was actually drawn up during Clinton's administration in his DoJ.

Just awaiting the opportunity to put it in front of Congress.

If you evaluate a person on the basis of actions and not rhetoric, and one should evaluate politicians especially that way. William Jefferson Clinton was actually a moderate Republican, not a "liberal" and Ronald Reagan was a socialist, a statist.

Reagan as gov of California took over a state with a budget in the black, and a small but effecient bureaucracy, he left it with a bloated bureaucracy and a budget so far in the red, that it created the Initiative Movement to hold down taxes, like Jarvis Proposition 13.

As President Ronnie gave us double digit inflation, interest rates and unemployment, and it took two decades to recover, and now the son of a Bush has set us back four decades and looming is another 1929.

And was Kerry a viable alternative.LOL. Hardly.

Politics is a cesspool and we SHOULD all know what rises to the top in a cesspool.

Who says Israel bought any of Abu Mazen's concilliatory words? Mazen may just be the one between the rock and the hard place -- under US/EU pressure to put an end to the attacks on Israeli civilian targets and Hamas, which won't cease and desist. The proposed withdrawal from Gaza may just be Sharon's gambit to further establish that there is no appeasing the Palestinians and never will be.

If you are speaking of the Carter Recession, you should name it such. Recessions take at least 3 Quarters to get under way, and this one was well under way by the time Reagan took office in January 81. Other than that I have no clue what you are giving me grief for.

But I digress from this thread... and I have much to do here at home. later!
