Jews and Christians forbidden to pray at the Temple Mount

Dhimmitude enforced in Jerusalem. From WND, with thanks to EPG:

Judaism considers it the holiest place on earth. Muslims say it's the third holiest. Christianity reveres the spot as being of great historic importance. But if someone prays there, if he or she is not Muslim, the worshiper will be immediately arrested. Welcome to the Temple Mount.

The Temple Mount is the large area directly behind the Western Wall in Jerusalem. It is the site of Judaism's first and second Temples, the primary area of worship for the Jewish faith and the location in which God's "shekhina," or presence, is thought by Jews to reside. The area is about the size of 15 football stadiums....

Although is not mentioned by name in the Quran, the Temple Mount is also commonly identified by Muslims as the "furthermost sanctuary," the site from which the Prophet Muhammad, accompanied by the Angel Gabriel, made the Night Journey to the Throne of God.

In addition, Christianity considers the area historically important. The book of Luke records that Jesus, raised a devout Jew, was dedicated in the Second Temple in accordance with the Laws of Moses, and describes Jesus' boyhood visit to the Temple, which, it is written in John, he cleansed at Passover and during the last week of his life. Jesus once referred to the Temple as His "Father's house."

The Temple Mount was opened to the general public until September 2000, when the Palestinians started their intifada by throwing stones at Jewish worshipers after then-candidate for prime minister Ariel Sharon visited the area.

Following the onset of violence, the new Sharon government closed the Mount to non-Muslims, using checkpoints to control all pedestrian traffic for fear of further clashes with the Palestinians.

The Temple Mount was reopened to non-Muslims in August 2003. It is still open but only Sundays through Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and not on any Christian Jewish or Muslim holidays or other days considered "sensitive" by the Wafq, the Muslim custodians of the Temple Mount.

During "open" days, Jews and Christian are allowed to ascend the Temple Mount, usually through organized tours and only if they conform first to a strict set of guidelines, which includes demands that they not pray or bring any "holy objects" to the site. Visitors are banned from entering any of the mosques without direct Wafq permission.

Rules are enforced by Wafq agents, who watch tours closely and alert nearby Israeli police to any breaking of their guidelines.

Yes, it's wonderful isn't it? Muslims ban Jews and Christians from all sorts of places, but Israel is a racist, apartheidist state.

Islamic "tolerance" in action.

We're like the frog in the pot of water. How hot does the water have to get before we scream? I wouldn't be surprised if the muslims themselves are amazed at how much they can get away with.

I am so sick of these jerks running the show in ISRAEL. muhamMAD was never in Jerusalem, it was a dream or a LIE. Time for rational human beings to slap these third world cretins back into the seventh century.

This "reverence" for this Moslem "holy" site, usurped from Judaism, will get Israel nothing but contempt. Conquering the Temple Mount and then turning it back to Moslems was one of the many errors made by Israel. Misreading Moslems, that is, expecting them to "be like us," and appreciate that their mosques were not reduced to rubble immediately upon the retaking of the site by Israel, was but one of many miscalculatios. The excuse that would Israel have held on to the site, the Arab world would rise up as one, does not hold. Arab armies were impotent, licking their wounds from a decisive defeat.

Ah, the blessings of Islamic tolerance.

Israel should have seized the area during the 1967 war, blown up the mosques and rededicated it to Jewish worship.

Why the Israeli police are complicit in enforcing the rules of the "Wafq" is beyond my understanding.

Yes, it is true that they ban us from worshipping on Temple Mount but there are already restrictions placed on Jews by halacha (Jewish law) in regard to praying on Temple Mount. Aside from this, it would be nice to have a presence in the area to prevent the Wakf from destroying Jewish antiquities as this is what they are doing and have been doing for years to support the lie that there is no evidence of Jews on Temple Mount.

Chief rabbis Yonah Metzger and Shlomo Moshe Amar, and a number of important rabbinical figures associated with the national religious world, have issued a halakhic ruling reiterating that it is forbidden for Jews to enter any part of the Temple Mount in our times. A similar halakhic ruling was issued a few months after the Six-Day War in 1967.

The current ruling was signed also by former chief rabbis Ovadia Yosef, Avraham Shapira, Eliahu Bakshi-Doron, the rabbi of the Western Wall, and heads of well-known national religious-oriented yeshivas.

It is seen as a blow to the members of the Temple Mount movements who have been trying for years to get a wider circle of rabbis to endorse the present-day entry of Jews to the holy site.

The ruling points out that Jews must avoid the entire site of the Temple Mount.

"Over the years," the rabbis state, "we have lost the exact location of the Temple, and anyone entering the Mount could unwittingly enter the area of the Temple and the Holy of Holies. With this in mind, we reiterate our warning ... that no man nor woman should set foot in the entire area of the Temple Mount, irrespective of which gate is used for this purpose."

The original halakhic ruling was issued by the two chief rabbis at the time, Isser Yehuda Unterman and Yitzhak Nissim, and they were joined by hundreds of other leading rabbinical figures. The current ruling was the initiative of the rabbi of the Western Wall, Shmuel Rabinowitz, and the head of the Ateret Cohanim yeshiva, Shlomo Aviner.

There are three basic prohibitions noted in the ruling: the lack of information about the location of the Holy of Holies; the fact that all the Jews of our times have been in the presence of the dead, or of others who have; and that so many leading rabbis have ruled that persons who are not pure must not touch holy ground.

During biblical times, the ashes of a flawless red heifer were required for ritual purification of any Jewish worshiper wishing to pray at the Temple. All attempts so far by Temple Mount enthusiasts to find the rare creature have failed.

The halakhic ruling comes at a time when the Temple Mount movements are gaining unprecedented momentum. Thousands of Jews, most of them religious, visit the site monthly. They regard the ruling as an attempt to relieve the rabbis' consciences and follow the teachings of their own rabbis, ignoring the sign at the entrance to the Mughrabi Gate that warns of possible death for those who disobey the ruling.

The turning point for these enthusiasts came when dozens of Yesha rabbis gave permission to go to the site a few years ago. Since then, many yeshiva students have gone, joined by their religious leaders. Their rabbis claim they have defined the area where it is possible to stand without touching holy soil. These include additions to the Temple built by Herod, such as Solomon's Stables, and the strip behind the Western Wall.

Chief rabbis prohibit Jews from entering Temple Mount

Chief Rabbis Shlomo Amar and Yona Metzger, as well as 21 other leading rabbis, have issued a religious ruling forbidding Jews from entering the Temple Mount compound, Western Wall rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch said Tuesday.

Rabinovitch said the prohibition on entering the compound is meant to prevent desecration of the site by a growing number of Jewish visitors. He called the decision a religious matter, not a security issue, but added that he hopes the announcement will prevent possible violence.

"This comes in response to greater numbers of Jews going up to visit the mount," Rabinovitch said. "There is a prohibition against attacking the area and it is a great prohibition. If this (ruling) will influence this, it is a very, very good thing."

Rabinovitch said the rabbinical ruling reiterated an earlier decision issued after the Six Day War of 1967, when Israel took over east Jerusalem and its holy sites.

The rabbis believe that Jews may not step on the area of the Temples, so as to prevent their possible desecration. Only once the messiah has come and Jews are purified will they be able to enter the area, he said.

Since it is not clear exactly where the Temples were located, Jews are not allowed anywhere on the mount, Rabinovitch said. A sign forbidding Jews from entering the mosque compound has been posted at the entrance through which Israelis are permitted to enter, he added.(AP)

Rabbis bar Jews from holy site

JERUSALEM: Israel's top rabbis have issued a religious ruling forbidding Jews from entering Jerusalem's Temple Mount compound, a rabbi said on Tuesday, a decision that could ease tensions at the disputed holy site.

The mount, known to Muslims as Haram a Sharif, or Noble Sanctuary, is one of the most contentious issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Al-Aqsa mosque compound, Islam's third-holiest site, is built atop the ruins of the biblical Jewish Temples, Judaism's holiest site. Israeli security officials have expressed fears in recent months that Jewish extremists might try to attack the compound.

Shmuel Rabinovitz, chief rabbi of the Western Wall, said the prohibition on entering the compound was meant to prevent desecration of the site by a growing number of Jewish visitors. He called the decision a religious matter, but added that he hopes the announcement will prevent possible violence.

Temple Mount Still Declared Off-Limits

January 18, 2005

A group of prominent rabbinic leaders, including Israel's chief Sephardic and Ashkenazi rabbis, announced Monday that Jews may not set foot on the Temple Mount, Judaism's holiest site.

The formal rabbinic decree reinstates a ban that had been in effect for centuries but in recent years has been reinterpreted by some rabbinic authorities.

Rabbis traditionally have deemed the mount, where the first and second biblical temples once stood, off-limits out of fear that Jews might inadvertently tread on the Holy of Holies, considered too sacred for ordinary people.

The Wakf, the Islamic trust that maintains the mount, has long tried to prevent non-Muslims from visiting the mount, which Muslims call Haram al Sharif. It fears that non-Muslim extremists will try to destroy the Al Aksa mosque, Islam's third-holiest shrine, located atop the mount.

In recent years, many Jews called for the rabbis to permit Jewish visits, fearing that the dearth of Jewish visitors would strengthen Muslim claims to the site. Palestinians, who want East Jerusalem - where the mount is located - to be the capital of their future state, have sometimes denied that the first and second temples existed.

In response to this effort to delegitimize Jewish claims to the mount, several rabbis decided to allow Jewish pilgrimages, drawing tens of thousands of Jews from around the world to the site.

The new ruling calls for an end to these pilgrimages. It states that "over the years we have lost the exact location of the Temple, and anyone entering the Mount could unwittingly enter the area of the Temple and the Holy of Holies. With this in mind, we reiterate our warning... that no man nor woman should set foot in the entire area of the Temple Mount, irrespective of which gate is used."

The Muslim claim (in addition to the permanent claim to the entire world) to the Temple Mount is religio-political. The Jewish and Christian connections to Jerusalem are a matter of history: the Jews really did live there for millennia, really did have a Temple, and so on. Jesus really did exist, and many events associated with him, including the most important, took place in Jerusalem. In other words, you need not be either Christian or Jewish – you can be a Hindu, a Buddhist, an atheist, a 33rd-degree Mason, or even a Muslim – to recognize that there are intimate historical connections, in one case lasting many millennia, between Jews and Jerusalem, Christians and Jerusalem.

But to believe that there is a Muslim connection to Jerusalem, one must be a Muslim. For it is entirely a matter of belief, not of history. There is no mention of Jerusalem in the Qur'an. However, Muslims read in the Qur’an that Muhammad ascends (and comes back within the space of 24 hours) up into the heavens on his fabulous winged steed Al-Buraq from a certain place; that is his “Miraj” or “Night Journey.” The Qur’anic phrase indicating from whence he began and ended his journey is “al-masjid al-aqsa or "the furthest mosque." Where might this “furthest mosque” have been? In early Islam, it was still a matter of dispute.

But the Umayyad Caliph, ruling in Damascus, and whose role in early Islam (even in the creation of early Islam) was considerable, undoubtedly saw a way to stake out a geopolitical claim. For if Jerusalem was “holy to two faiths,” the prior monotheisms, it was important to leave no Jewish or Christian stone unclaimed by Islam. For Islam appropriates every major figure, every monument, whom the Jews and Christians who were the first to be conquered by the believers in Islam, had first claimed as their own. The Muslims “revere” Moses, but it is a Muslim Moses; their Jesus is not the Christian Jesus; and so on. What better way to lay claim to Jerusalem then to fix in the minds of Muslims that the “furthest mosque” must be right smack on top of the Temple Mount.

In one fell swoop, the Jewish and Christian claims are overcome. It turns out that in religio-political matters, it is not “prior in claim, prior in right” that decides but rather the reverse – he who gets there lastest with the mostest wins. And so it was with Jerusalem. The Dome of the Rock, dated (not quite as securely as some seem to think) from 691, in structure has nothing Islamic about it. It may well have been a Christian martyrium. No doubt much more dating (akin to carbon-dating for trees and suchlike) would help. But it is only a century since Western scholars of early Islam have begun to throw off their inhibitions (and some throw them off, only to fearfully assume them once again) and to study Islam as, for example, Christianity and Judaism began to be studied as early as the days of Spinoza and Hume, finally leading to what is called the Higher Criticism, in full flower long ago, and without any fatal consequences to any of those involved.

Israel:

Just take it back. Let the muslims seethe; what are they going to do, hate you more?

I believe that it was the notorious NAziphile Al Huseini, the grand Mufti of Jerusalem appointed by the British, who realised the crucial importance of "manufacturing" Jerusalem into a "Holy Islamic" site.
Thus putting Islam on an equal footing with Judaism and christianity in the Historic "claims" domain.
Hugh, of course will know much more on this subject of deceit and the restoration of the Al Aqsa Mosque by hussieni to establish "Islam,s claim" on Jerusalem.

Since the 9/11 attack I gave Muslims the benefit of the doubt when reading Press-Releases
from Islamic groups or Org.'s that argued how Islam had no connection to the attack and was based on Peace taught by Muhammed the prophet.

It's now 2005 and hundreds of pages I have read on Islam and the Quran show the Muhammed wasn't a Prophet,Islam doesn't mean peace, and the Quran was "Created" to fool the people with a Retro-Active claim to the Bible and Torah.
I also learned about the art of "Taqiyya" that
suspends all the Laws in the Quran if a Muslims
intent is to deceive the enemy as part of a "Holy-War" or "Jihad". While Muslims boasted about the increase in sales of Qurans in the West they failed to allow for people like me that wanted
evidence that proved their claims, and not a interest to convert to Islam.
My faith tells me to "Test" the fruits to see what type of tree it really is that bares the fruit, even if the mojority of Muslims are peaceful the "Terrorists" and mass-murderers have their roots in Islam and the Quran by their own confessions and citing verses from that Quran
also read by the tepid Muslims.
The answer to the Temple issue is to tear it down or threaten to tear it down, this will force a desire for all parties to save it and worke together. If three kids are fighting over one toy you take the toy away, you DON'T buy two more toys to appease the brats.

As for Taqiyya,Muslims like to use their time in America as a measure of their loyalty
to the Country as "Muslim/Americans" that share
a interest in the security of all Americans.

"BULLSH*T",living in the USA for 20 years makes you no more American than living in a garage for 20 years would make you an "Automobile" .
Being Canadian or American is in your blood and part of your mindset, even my citizenship is just a piece of paper and the real test comes when I'm challenged to fight for ME or my Country.

NO ISLAM - NO WAR

Tolerance is usually a two-way street. It works best that way. For a successful multicultural society. But we've seen time and time again, how Islam doesn't work well with anyone else, and it's all one-way. Islam's way. They work on a more primitive, savage, immature level. Push, shove, take. You give in to this, they only want to push, shove and take some more, and some more. Like a spoiled, rotten child. They only respect those who can smack them into next week. They laugh at those who grovel, appease, relent.

What's frustrating is that a large segment of our own, non-Muslim society, just can't see this. They keep stupidly giving in, thinking this is good, that this will solve problems, and create peace. A pipe dream. Fairy tale.

The Temple Mount belongs to the Jews and Christians. mo's night journey on the little horse with wings is a fairy tale.... or a hallucination brought on by an epileptic fit. I believe the story says that there are 7 heavens and mo stopped on each level (kind of like an elevator).... where he negotiated with "allah" on how many times the muslims should prostrate in a day... so up and down the elevator mo goes, negotiating with "allah" for the muslims.... blah what a bunch of hokey bullshit. I wonder if muslims put ketchup or ranch dressing on this kind of shit before they swallow it.

The Temple Mount will be torn down (or blown up by muslims) and will be re-built.. This is biblical prophesy and will be a further sign of the Last Days.

What really needs to be torn down or blown up is that gigantic blue pimple called the al-asqa mosque... Satan's landmark.... truly it is an abomination standing in the Holy Land of Israel.

Linda:

Here is how Mohammed determined many things in regard to Islam:

Jewish sabbath is Saturday. Christian sabbath is Sunday. Okay, our's will be Friday.

Jews pray three times a day -- no good we must out-pray them. We will pray five times a day.

Jews bow to Hashem in the Amidah. We will go one better we will bow till our noses touch the dirt.

Jews don't eat pork and have dietary laws and so shall we.

Jews were concious of cleanliness (mikveh) and Mo wanted in on that too but got side tracked with the bone, rock and the hootchie-koo. (owww!)

Mohammed had no qualms in adopting Jewish practice into Islam. He did it to make Islam more attractive to Jews. He thought it would be easier to gain converts. But alas it was not to be and Jews lost their heads for steadfastly refusing the devious, psycho camel driver and his band of blood thirsty, booty driven heathen...

Kemaste, you always make me laugh :o) You are right... mo borrowed from both the Torah and the Bible to legitimize himself with the inhabitants of the lands he wished to conquer. Matthew 24 clearly warns all about "false prophets" who would come after Jesus, and would mislead "many". Never in my wildest dreams did I think so "many" would be lead by the false prophet/profit, but they have been. A billion people.. that is "many"!

Even though muslims try to convince unwitting folks that are not so strong in their faith, that muslims respect and revere Jesus, when they give their taqiuyya speeches, they forget to tell their wanted Christian "reverts" that muslims deny the Diety and the Crucifixion of Christ... the very crux of the Christian faith.

Maybe someday people will be released from the bonds of islam.. I'm convinced that this won't happen until the Last Day; and I hope that those who were FORCED (there is no compulsion in islam yah right) to practice this cult of death and doom will somehow be forgiven, for the simple fact that they were FORCED under penalty of death to worship satan.
