Fox-Guarding-the-Henhouse Department, from the New York Sun, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:
A Columbia University professor who has called Israel a "racist" state with an "apartheid system," and who has supported attacks by Palestinian-Arabs on Israelis, is scheduled to lecture a group of New York City public school teachers on how to teach Mideast politics to schoolchildren. The professor, Rashid Khalidi, is director of the Middle East Institute at Columbia University. His professorship is named in memory of Edward Said, a divisive scholar, and is paid for in part with a donation from the United Arab Emirates.
Mr. Khalidi is one of more than a dozen Columbia professors expected to give city public-school teachers an overview of the history and culture of the Middle East, as part of a professional-development course offered by the city's Department of Education.
UPDATE: Good news! Education Dept. Drops Columbia Prof. From Teaching Program for Teachers
"Our division of Human Resources compiles this publication with the courses available, but does not provide the professional development itself," Mr. Kalb said. "... Courses are taught by independent scholars and educators from across the city, and curriculum varies with each course. We do not endorse any specific course."
So precisely who did invite Khalidi? Funny how when a scandal is brought to light, the culprit is always obfuscated by layers of bureacracy. Must have been an automaton on a voice mail system programmed by a computer in the NYC public school system.
"...and is paid for in part with a donation from the United Arab Emirates.
WTF? When are our "leaders" going to stand up to this crap? Maybe if the Lincoln Tunnel, Grand Coulee Damn, St. Louis Arch, and Golden Gate Bridge get destroyed by "a tiny minority of extremists" they'll sit up and take notice. (Unless of course they can blame it on trehugging Americans or Saddam Hussein again.)
The United Arab Emirates and other Arabs and arabisant sympathizers (Rita Hauser, Gordon Grey, etc.) are certainly getting their money's worth by paying for the Edward Said Chair. Washington was well-covered, what with Michael Hudson and the late Hisham Sharabi and all the others at the Georgetown Center for Contemporary Arab somethingorother, and of course Esposito, John Voll, and Yvonne Haddad have their own Arab-financed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding.
With Khalidi and MESA Nostra having taken over Columbia, and Georgetown in Washington also a redoubt, a very small investment has insured continued subservience to the Arab Muslim line --and of course, continued reliance on Saudi goodwill rather than a sensible policy of self-taxation to recapture oligopolistic rents (a policy that, had Islam and hence Saudi Arabia been properly understood, could and should have begun more than 30 years ago).
Come on out here, Saudi Arabia, U.A.E., Kuwait. You have shown us all how to do it. Despite your OPEC trillions, you managed on a relative shoestring to keep the Western world completely misinformed about Islam. But it couldn't have been done without the eager collaboration of so many ex-diplomats, ex-C.I.A. agents, journalists -- and now, it appears, the New York City public school system.
Crown Prince Abdullah, back in November 1979, gave an interview to the Jordanian newspaper Al-Rai and said "we would have liked to have bought up all the world's media." It didn't happen, but it didn't need to happen. As the public schools of New York City show, sometimes you don't even need money; some people can be had for free.
There is an old, nearly forgotten idea, of funding research and study for the sake of knowledge rather than for the sake of something else, like political favors.
Could the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or any Muslim or Arab state ever fund, say, scholarly research into pre-Islamic culture, or pre-Islamic archeology, recovering what can be known of cultures destroyed by Islam? Is it conceivable? Why not? Isn't Islam interested in knowledge for its own sake, history, diversity, tolerance and all that?
Folks: Money talks, you know what walks!
You know they 'own' the media, George W. sucks up to them, (He is his fathers son, is he not?) Texas Oil (the firm/the family) is thicker than revulsion or the righteous anger of the borne again Christian that Bush claims to be. Saudi oil, Saudi money, Saudi Charme(!) Saudi corruption (in more ways than one) Saudi terror...(they call it 'ISLAM...)
Aaarrgggh, much toooo complicated for George W.! Let him fight the war on terror. That makes sense!
or does it......... ????
It's simply amazing how "other than Judeo-Christian" groups have free reign in American Society and Culture. "GOD Forbid" if anyone from the Judeo-Christian faith gave a class on anything to do with faith anywhere in our culture...YET, WE CONTINUE TO BE PEPPERED WITH ANTI-CHRISTIAN, ANTI-SEMETIC GARBAGE AT EVERY TURN.
I'm in the military and when (just after 9-11) a muslim soldier stated to me that the Jews were responsible for the terrorism...he went on to say that Jews were responsible for all evil in the world and furthermore called me a "soft-head" for being a Christian. When I objected to his racist remarks and questioned his ability to serve in the US Army he complained to the commander and wouldn't you know it...I was reprimanded and he was moved to Germany (very very scary). I was told that muslims basically have 'protected status' in our US Forces....
It's interesting now, after so many muslim service members have been associated with espionage that the DOD might rethink their position.
I am continually reminded how it is a Federal Crime to yell, "Fire, fire" in a movie theater but how inflammatory & riotious statements can be regularly made across our Country. It seems that we did not wake up on 9-11 and are still slumbering when it comes to the meaning of "Freedom of Speech".
I really appreciate Jihad Watch and recommend it to many "politically" (if not always too bright) individuals who espouse their political beliefs. I hope that others will wake up and smell the jihad for it is a global poisionous weed that must be dealt with as such.
