"Kuwait is becoming a top priority for Al Qaeda"

Jihad in Kuwait, where Americans have been welcomed and no doubt the State Department assumes that "moderate" Islam prevails. How is it that Al-Qaeda, or jihadists in general, seem to have little trouble penetrating any Muslim population? "Unrest spills into quiet Kuwait," from the Christian Science Monitor, with thanks to Eschwapp:

KUWAIT CITY - A series of gunbattles here over the past month between Islamic militants and security forces have left many Kuwaitis wondering whether the violence plaguing neighboring Iraq and Saudi Arabia is about to spill over into their oil-rich Gulf state.

The Kuwaiti police have conducted several raids to round up Islamic militants who were allegedly planning to carry out attacks against Western targets, including American troops based in the country. Eight militants and four policemen have died in the clashes and 18 militants remain in custody. Large amounts of weapons and bombmaking materials have been seized.

With the authorities here admitting that the militants pose a serious threat, Kuwaitis fear they could pay a price for being America's staunchest ally in the Arab world. Kuwait gave full support to the US-led invasion of Iraq, and the country remains an important logistics hub for the US.

"These clashes are a small drop in the ocean to what is coming. Kuwait is becoming a top priority for Al Qaeda," says Mohammed Mulaifi, a writer and member of the strict Salafi branch of Sunni Islam who has close contacts with Kuwaiti militants.

US hubs becoming Al Qaeda priorities, eh? Reeks of Deja vu. Anyone care to remember Britain, Pakistan, Uzbekistan (in Central Asia), the Philipines and why, our dear friends Egypt and Saudi as well!

And of course, Israel occupies an entire category all by itself.

To begin to fight islamoterror, there's no better (or more logical) starting point than the mosque...and to begin to fight jihadi terror inside the mosque, there's no better place to start than with the koran.....

after some middle-east research its quite apparent that the govenments of these sem-moderate states do not want al-cooda hanging around, some citizens are however contemplating they're alliance with the U.S.

not much in bahrain related to terrorism...often wonder of the off-beat places no one hears about?

AWESOME DEDUCTION

in all my efforts of hustle and bustle i've missed the simple solution.

all mosques should be put on a logistics board and systematically raided with live coverage.
You can bet that before you get the the last ones they in ship-shape condition, then we use civilian monitors to attend services and prognosticate forever if they are to get along.

i like this very much:-)

ps- we set up the ol' internment camps for those who might qualify for the "people of interest",thus they do not become entangled in our legal system.

pss- if these guy's were bikers and the mosques were clubhouses it would have been done already although it would be very costly, say the $50 million mark per 30 people.

Reducing our dependence on middle east oil is a major national security emergency. Check out www.iags.org, a policy think with an advisory board full of well known individuals. This is a potent weapon we need to use.

From the article

The security scare also has led Kuwaitis to ask some searching questions about where to draw the line between legitimate conservative Islamic rhetoric and incitement to Islamist violence, and how to dissuade youngsters from turning toward the radical ideology of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda.

Errr, ahhhh..sshhh, isn't that the problem
"conservative Islamic rhetoric"?

There is only one kind of rhetoric in Islam, and by default it is "conservative Islamic"- i.e. hegemonistic, Jihadist, shari'a.

I'd be very interesting in hearing, in detail the minutae that distinguishes "legitimate" from illegitimate "conservative Islamic rhetoric".
