The Myth of Islamic Tolerance, an essay collection edited by Jihad Watch director Robert Spencer, is now available.

Many of these conquered people surrendered to Muslim domination under a special treaty called dhimma in Arabic. As such, these non-Muslim indigenous populations, mainly Christians and Jews, were then classified under Islamic law as dhimmis (meaning “protected”). Although protected status may sound benign, this classification in fact referred, most importantly, to “protection” from the resumption of the jihad against non-Muslims. The authors maintain that underlying this religious caste system is a culturally ingrained contempt for outsiders that still characterizes much of the Islamic world today and is a primary catalyst for jihad terrorism, jihadist-martyrdom bombers, and a Nazi-like racist antisemitism taught in school systems and propagated via the media.
Included are Ibn Warraq writing about Edward Said and the "intellectual turbans" he has placed on today's academic establishment, forestalling honest discussion about Islamic tolerance; Bat Ye'or on the devastating effects of the dhimma, the system that actually defines the relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims in Islamic states; Walid Phares on the little-noted oppression of Middle Eastern Christians; and much more -- including a devastating series of articles by UN expert David G. Littman on the advancement of Islamic intolerance at the United Nations.
This hard-hitting and absorbing assessment of Islamic teachings and practices regarding non-Muslim minorities uncovers a significant human rights scandal that rarely receives any mention either in academic circles or in the mainstream press.

It would be useful if visitors to Jihadwatch were to:
1) request that their local libraries order a copy
2) order a copy for reading and reference 3) order at least one other copy to be leant out to friends
4) ditto, for family members.
5) call up newspapers and magazines to make sure that the book is not ignored, and where appropriate, write your own review for a local or national or school or trade publication.
6) make a point of carrying the book about, reading it conspicuously at Starbucks, or in restaurants, striking up conversations with people about it who appear to be regarding it with interest, having it casually under your arm when you are at the dry cleaners (and declaiming in a voice that other customers can hear what a useful and revealing book it has been, and how glad you are to have found it, etc.).
7) if you work in the Pentagon, or in Congress as a staff member, make sure you buy a few copies. If some intelligent Senator feels like springing for 485 copies, with his personal recommendation to read the book, that would be useful.
8) if you are one of the few sober columnists left say something about the book. For example it would be wonderful if George Will made it the subject of his column in Newsweek. Time for everyone to become less indifferent, or sentimental, or hollowly hopeful, by becoming better informed.
There are as many ways to to alert people to the existence of the book, as there were nights of story-telling by Scheherezade.
If the Dutch government can pay for courses teaching young Muslim men how to "pick up" Dutch girls, surely every wellwisher who comes to this site can figure out ways to promote this book. The civilization you save may be your own.

We've no doubt every word and phrase in this volume is 100% accurate.
But where do we go from this point?
Any ideology that baldly, flat-out states "slay the infidels everywhere they are found" hasn't a tolerant bone in its body. We agree with RS 100% on this matter. But something has occurred to me -
Over the past 13 centuries Islam can be verifiably shown to have murdered hundreds of million INNOCENT human beings. Human rights barely exist even for much of the umma (except for one all-embracing right--the right to be savagely tyrannized without limit or restraint). Yet, inexplicably (and regrettably) Islam has escaped accountability for this unparalleled achievement in the annals of atrocities in human behavior. WHO OR WHAT WILL CHANGE THIS???? AND WHEN?????Currently no one seems to have a clue (or else is unwilling to share it with the world community).
And yet, the mosque leaders throughout the world continue to push our hapless planet recklessly,relentlessly and remorselessly toward a bloody and horrible doomsday scenario-- with nary a government or government agency anyplace on earth ready to stop these killer-zombies. No one in fact is stopping them. There is little evidence to suggest that anyone even has a plan in place to hold Islam accountable for its history of genocide--ever. Islam continues to literally "get away with murder." And, get away with much, much more that is destructive to mankind. Intolerance certainly is bad enough, but there are things Islam continues to perpetrate that are actually far, far worse worse.
RS, we certainly applaud your much-needed skill in debunking the incredibly naive (if not downright suicidal) political correct perception of the nature of Islamic ideology (malignant). But we have many more places to travel before we are out of the woods regarding Islam and its real self, a self the political left has Micawberishly deluded itself into believing is less than malignant...

Thanks for making the effort to provide us anti-jjihadists with solid backing for our arguments concerning the Religion fo Peace. There are people I know and respect who consider me a bit paranoid on this subject. I can never seem to make my point as eloquently as you and Hugh seem to. I will recommend your book.

It is not in question that there are peaceful verses in the Qu'ran. We all know, after all, out leaders have called it a Religion of Peace.
We we're curious as to why Muslim fanatics want to terrorise my brothers and sisters in the west.
