The Return of the Ents

A new essay by Wolfgang Bruno:

The always eminent writer and historian Victor Davis Hanson compares modern Europe to the Middle Earth of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic “The Lord of the Rings”, recently turned into one of the most successful movie trilogies in history by New Zealand director Peter Jackson. Like the inhabitants of Tolkien’s imaginary world, Europeans are accustomed to living in peace and prosperity. But their sedate way of life is starting to come under threat, although not all of them have noticed it yet. The shadow of an ancient foe is rising in the East, an enemy that has not threatened us for so long that we had almost forgotten about it, and how dangerous it can be.

Memories of past battles have become dim, to the point where we treat them almost as Fairytales. The enemy was defeated last time, but not destroyed. It has been lying low since then, retreated into its heartland and waited for the next opportunity to strike. And now, it senses weakness.

The One Ring, the Ring of Power, which triggers a major war deciding the future of freedom in Middle Earth, is a great analogy for Islam. Many men have become enticed by the undeniable power of the Ring, hoping to use it for their own gain in the vain belief that they can control it. But the Ring of Power has a will of its own, and is inherently evil. It cannot be used for anything good. It will slowly corrupt the ones using it, replacing whatever was noble and positive with darkness, leaving nothing but an empty shell. Like the Nazgûl or Ring Wraiths, once great kings of men, now soulless tools at the hands of evil.

A long time ago, the area from Egypt via Syria to Iraq, Iran and Pakistan was the seat of the earliest civilizations known to man. Today, Islam has long since consumed these vibrant cultures, and replaced them with Islamic backwardness, terrorism and hate, with no other purpose in life than to be at the service of the Ummah. This is the fate of France, too, unless the French wake up and change their ways. The French elite are on an insane quest: The primary enemy for them is not Islam, but the Anglo-American rivals they have been fighting a loosing battle for supremacy against since the age of Napoleon, if not before. They think they can ride the tiger, and “use” Islam to regain some of their former glory. The equivalent of Saruman, the traitorous wizard, would have to be Jacques Chirac and the French political elite behind the Eurabia project. They are the enemy within, pretending to be on our side while having joined the forces of darkness a long time ago, and they may drag others with them when they fall.

Outsiders have been puzzled that a fantasy tale such as the Lord of the Rings could spellbind generation after generation. Perhaps the answer to the riddle is that despite being full of Elves, Trolls and strange beasts, it is essentially a very human story, a tale of cowardice, treachery and death, but also of hope, new beginnings and unexpected courage. Above all, it is a story about the quiet people, the little people, like the Hobbits or the Ents, suddenly rising to the occasion and showing bravery and zeal nobody had expected from them, not the least themselves. People who are ripped out of their daily lives to face a mounting evil gathering outside the gates, threatening to destroy everything they hold dear. Many of the individuals who are there to protect us and our civilization shrink in front of the challenges facing them. Some, like Saruman or the Eurabian elites, hope to increase their own power. Others, like Denethor, Steward of Gondor, are paralyzed by indecisiveness, overcome by defeatism and their own personal delusions, leaving their nations defenseless while the enemy is about to attack. Yet some, like Théoden King of Rohan, have had blinders drawn before their eyes by the likes of Grima Wormtongue, the John Espositos, the Tariq Ramadans and the multicultural Islam-apologists of the world. They can still be redeemed in the 12th hour, and return to lead the defenses.

It is easy to watch many of our leaders fail in standing up to or even identifying our adversary, witness the sheer numerical size of the enemy, and conclude that we have lost the fight. It is also wrong. As Tolkien shows us, some of those in power will inevitably fail to handle their responsibilities. But others, who had not been taken into the calculation by either friend or foe, will rise up to the occasion at the last moment and tip the scales in favor of the forces of good. If the big people prove too small for the task at hand, then the little people will have to grow and carry the load. The real will to identify the Islamic enemy and his weak points today is not found in the media, in the overpaid think-tanks and certainly not in our “progressive” universities or among most of the politicians. It is found in small websites by ex-Muslims, such as SecularIslam.org, KnowIslam.info, FaithFreedom.org, ApostatesOfIslam.com and IslamReview.org, and some others by non-Muslims like JihadWatch.org. It is picked up and its message carried throughout the world by the blogosphere, the global community of weblogs and private websites that is increasingly asserting its influence and challenging the major networks. Big Media will have to follow their lead, or decline in trust and significance as more and more people contrast their apologist stance with better arguments and analyses given elsewhere.

It is not for us to decide the time we live in. All there is for us is to decide what to do with the time that is given to us. This task has been appointed to us. And if we do not find a way, than no one will. Perhaps it is time to throw evil back where it came from, be that the fires of Mordor or the glowing sands of Arabia. Much hangs in the balance, maybe even civilization itself. Only time will tell if we are up to the challenge.

Bravo.

"Little" people, the salt of the earth have always been the mainstay of culture and civilization. "Big" people, the educated elite pose and chronicle, and sometimes dispose, but the little people of the earth carry on regardless using their own wisdom.

Bravo!

'The Lord of the Rings' is among the greatest works in English Fiction I've ever read. With Good reason.
The analogy to islam hasn't been lost on a lot of people. I for one am having trouble placing Bush in the picture. If Europe is middle earth, Russia the amoral land of Rhun and the middleast Mordor (and further south Harad), then logically (and geographically) we can only conclude that America represents the undying lands and Bush must be Manwe of the Valar then... So the western lands interfered in middle earthly wars early on...it can only get more interesting from here....

LOTR fabns, pls feel free to comment and amend.(:-D)

Tolkien had a wider range of evils in mind when he thought up the ring of power. It represents the temptation for man to be as God, the origin of all sin and evil in the world according to Christian doctrine. Islam is perhaps attractive to anti-Christian Westerners at this point because utopian scientific socialism has proven to be a dead end that mocks every hope on which in rode to power.

Also, Jack the Rat Chirac is no Saruman: a Gollum perhaps; but no Saruman.

Otherwise, Herr Bruno, Danke Schoen (sorry, I can't to umlauts).

Lord of the Rings is indeed about Europe; Middle Earth is per definition a fantasy version of old Europe. Also, if you compare historic battles like the Battle of Vienna with de Battle at Pellennor or the Besiege of Helmsdeep, you see great resemblance. Also the historic battle against the Huns gives a similarity with the works of Tolkien; in real history the king Theodoric dies in the battle, whereas in Lord of the Rings it is king Theoden who dies in a similar battle. It is very clear where Tolkien got his inspiration from and it is just as clear we should stimulate everyone to read the epos of Tolkien, to fuel consciousness of the people in the west. Also, if you compare the cultures of the people in Lord of the Rings, you can see the resemblance with European cultures. Hobbits for instance, are typical English, whereas Rohirrim culture look like the old Germanic culture, and with Gondor being more southern en eastern European. Still, I think the work itself isn't meant as a political work, but as a cultural one.

Still... Aragorn is absolutely *not* George W Bush. I really hate it when people compare those two. With all dear respect to the republicans here, but George W Bush only divides the West (America versus Europe), whereas Aragorn is one who united Gondor, Rohan, dwarves and elves. LotR should be a cultural (civilization) work but not a polical one, as I said earlier. Anyhow, everyone can see in LotR what he wants to see... that is why so many people like the book.

LORD Of The RINGS

"By all that we hold dear on this Earth I bid you stand, men of the West!"

That line, spoken when the army of man was hopelessly surrounded and out numbered was very inspiring.

Oops,it linked the site above only for the Tolkin quote without looking at the rest of it. It appears to be a supremicist site, I did not notice that. Sorry.

Yes, National Vanguard is specifically an anti-Semetic website. I again apologize, I only wanted to find the quote for the movie and that was the first to appear in my search. Interesting though, how they place blame for everything first on Jewish people. Anti-Semetism is definitely a disease.

The problem is that works of people can be misused for political goals, like race supremacists normally do. I do not think Tolkien wrote his epos to make people aware of some political or religious concerns. What Tolkien did however, is stating that ones culture or civilization will always be under "attack" by other forces. Mordor and the orcs are an evil everyone can explain in his own way; people can explain the orcs as radical islam, as racism, as nazism, as communism, as capitalism, as the destruction of nature or even as a supremacist subject. It is all in the eye of the beholder, but Tolkien’s statement itself is clear: one should protect their values, ideals and culture or they will risk losing it.

I must respectfully disagree. In one of his letters, Tolkein wrote:

"The Lord of the Rings is of course a fundamentally religious and Catholic work, unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision. That is why I have not put in, or have cut out, practically all references to anything like 'religion', to cults or practices, in the Imaginary world. For the religious element is absorbed into the story and the symbolism"

Dear Mr. Bruno,

We have absolutely NO evidence that France or any European nation or especially the EU is up to the challenge of defeating the looming Islamic Invasion. Italy and perhaps a few Eastern European nations are possibly the only exceptions. These nations of Europe are as you mentioned too self-absorbed to pay attention and the price is apt to be steep. China and Russia are too unreliable and see too much opportunity in undermining the USA to be relied upon to thwart Islamic aggression meaningfully, and the same applies to most of the developing nations that otherwise might be strategically helpful.

We recommend that you and other concerned Europeans ally yourself more closely to the United States and possibly Autralia, and perhaps India. There is little hope elsewhere to be seen in defeating this growing menace.

We do wish to mention to you that there is a distinct possibility that Islam is derived not from Arabis where it likely resurfaced 1300 yearsw ago, but from Babylonian idol-worshiping practices over 5000 years old. Since Islam is thus likely to have originated in human sacrifice practices (usually involving the throwing of live humans into furnaces) perhaps a furnace is the proper venue in which to eliminate Islam.

@ Darius LaMonica: I know that letter of Tolkien, but in the preface of my version of Lord of the Rings Tolkien strongly comments there aren’t any motives in LotR and it isn't based on certain ideology. Anyhow, even if Lord of the Rings is a Catholic work, it isn't obvious in the books itself as if it is a second Bible. The world of Middle Earth is even pagan, having a lot of Gods (the Ainur) who rule the world instead of having just one God. I think however, the religious part Tolkien mentioned, regards Lord of the Rings being a work of awareness with a lot of Christian symbolism (the struggle of individuals with the ring of evil).

If this is what Hanson thinks is the background of "the Lord of the Rings":

... "For Tolkien, who wrote in a post-imperial Britain bled white from stopping Prussian militarism and Hitler's Nazism, only to then witness the rise of the more numerous, wealthier, and crasser Americans, such specters were haunting." ...

He could not be more wrong. The last book I read was the Seamus Heaney translation of the old Anglo-Saxon epic "Beowulf". In his Introduction on page xi Heaney even mentions Tolkien published an article "Beowulf: the Monster and its Critics" that "took for granted the poem's integrity and distinction as a work of art". On page 199 a horn was used in battle; "They heard the sound of Hygelac's horn", just as horns are used in battle in Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings". Frequent references in Beowulf are made to rings, ring-givers, etc. Clearly "Lord of the Rings" is Tolkien's attempt at an epic in homage to the Anglo-Saxon epics. Also important to this discussion, frequent reference to mead drinking is present; mead is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented honey and water. Muslims generally do not drink alcohol of any sort. Heaney on page xi-xii states that the Greek epics are more familar to English speakers than even the English epics. There was a time when Philhellenes from all over Europe voluntered money or sometimes even their lives to fight for Greek independence from the Ottoman Empire. Even back then the European Powers were more concerned with checking Russia using a weak Ottoman Empire than the Greek heritage and Christianity they had in common with Greeks. Now it is even worse, every European commercial power and the United States is so concerned with not offending their only on Sunday allies in the Muslim world. Today unlike when most Europeans in the 19th Century supported the Greek rebels, more tourists go to Turkey than Greece. Cultural similarity matters little to modern Westerners, they would also rather visit Egypt than Israel also. This amazing transformation has happened it used to matter what civilization you are a part of. Now if you try to speak of civilizations...

Another thing Victor David Hanson mentions in his article is Turkish European Union membership. If you define Europe, you have to be a moron to allow for Islam in the definition, except as an invading force. Europe is built on a Christian foundation, and the Greek and Roman heritage of antiquity. Under the entry for Greek in the Oxford Greek Dictionary Romios(Roman) is still listed. This is what all Greeks would identify as before Greek independence. The Ottoman and Seljuk Turks destroyed what was left of the Eastern Roman Empire(Byzantine), they reached Vienna by jihad. To let Turkey in or even consider letting it in shows not that Europe is a dhimmi, but that it has completely lost its identity. Do not worry the Arab and Turkish immigrants will write new epics and they will not feature alcohol like the Odyssey or Beowulf.

You will not understand my post if you do not read the Victor Hanson essay. The page numbers refer to the 2001 Norton edition of "Beowulf".

...
"Great Queen Modthryth
perpetrated terrible wrongs.
If any retainer ever made bold
to look her in the face, if an eye not her lord's
stared at her directly during daylight,
the outcome was sealed: he was kept bound
in hand-tightened shackles, racked, tortured
until doom was pronounced - death by the sword,
slash of blade, blood-gush and death qualms
in an evil display. Even a queen
outstanding in beauty most not kill like that."
...

"Beowulf" trans. Seamus Heaney (Norton: New York; 2001) 133.

Someone writing a muslim epic would not write something like that, admonishing a queen for being so cruel to kill anyone who gazes at her, shows an actual sense of right or wrong instead of a sense of the justice of the scimitar or Koran.

I have heard "Lord of the Rings" used an an analogy for many things, this is one of the better uses for it.

OK, I'll go along with this - but only if I can wear green tights and knee-high boots, and say things like "that dwarf be queer!" and "we must drink ale and be gay!".

I will swing my mighty hammer and slay morcs - as soon as I can retrieve it from the bottom of my Chinese toolbox.

(Superficially it looks like a ridiculous article, and yet, alas, so much of it rings true.)

"Not West but East does our doom await us."
J.R.R. Tolkein, The Two Towers

This Book is one of the most current books now, and you have to know that Mordor was in the south and the soldiers of Mordor are very similar to islamic mujhaiden very well put in the movie.

Tolkien was ferociously anti-Communist, to the point of supporting Franco's Fascists and of underrating the importance of Hitler's threat (early in the war, he was heard to mumble: "depend upon it, Stalin's at the bottom of it," or some such similarly inspired statement). However, the genius of Lord of the Rings is that it describes the moral atmosphere of a fundamentally decent civilization under challenge and facing a mortal enemy in such a way that all such comparisons ring true. I feel fairly sure that a Chinese man fighting to save his country from Hunnish nomads would have recognized the moral world of Lord of the Rings. And as such, it is certainly the case that it describes with great exactitude many features of our plight in the face of rising Muslim evil. (Although not all - it would take a great deal of pessimism to imagine that the West could be militarily overwhwelmed by Muslim armies.)

And yes, Europe is best compared with the Ents. We have spent our long lives minding our trees, even cultivating false friends like Saruman. But the evidence of the evil around us is too loud and widespread for even the most subtle poisoners of the mind to work. To the Americans who do not know how we really think and feel, I say: do not despair. When the time comes, our politicians will do the right thing, because they will not dare do otherwise. The measure of our rage is nearly full. When one speaks to Europeans in the street, the issue is not whether Islam is a menace or not, but how best to contain it or fight back (along with frequent curses, not loud but deep, for whoever engineered such a vicious religion). The enemy's arrogance has actually done them no favours: the Italian Muslim community is led by a man called Adel Smith, whose behaviour is such that he has never opened his mouth without turning a majority of Italians against him. There is even a sense that more people are going to Church or declaring themselves Catholic, not out of faith, but to separate themselves from any suspicion of sympathy for Islam. The immense success of Oriana Fallaci's books is another symptom of how the average European experiences this conflict; and the various Isengards who stand among us in their pride had better beware the anger - the deep, unspeaking, slowly thinking and growing anger - among European citizens, lest one day the wood explode again, as in the myth, with the battle-cry of the silent Ents.

We go, we go, we go to war, to hew the stone and smash the door!
To Isengard with doom we come,
With doom we come, with doom we come!

Catherine needs to learn to spell English. She also needs to learn some manners. We will fight for our freedom, but not for some arrogant and ignorant individual who does not seem willing to bother with the facts. (The facts being that the European Union has been pressuring Iran and its suppliers, the most important being Russia, not to go ahead with this program, and that world reporters generally believe Europe and the USA to be in full agreement on this little matter.)

Reichstagsakten 1888/89, 7. Lp., Vol. 121, Attachment 41: Collection of Documents pertaining the Uprising in East Africa, No. 28: Directive to the Imperial ambassador in London
Friedrichsruh, October 28th 1888

It is to be desired that our agreement with England on fighting the slave trade and the import of weapons to East Africa will have the shape of an international agreement. Such a document would establish limits for the expansion of the continued expansion of the Muslim and slave trading movement, by the moral impression by the accord of the two European powers so far engaged there, and also, more propably, will lead to the cooperation of the other European states engaged. I propose the exchange of notifications between us and Britain, in which we take upon ourselves the obligation, under the condition (p.412) on an equal participation of Britain for the same purpose, to fight the anti-Christian and anti-civilizatoric movement which has emerged over the last years on the African continent, and to recognize the prohibition of the export of slaves and the import of arms and ammunition as the most effective means, as it is only the possession of superior arms ans ammunitions which enables the Arab and Muslim minority to undertake slave hunts and wars necessary to obtain slaves, and to keep up the superiority of their race in Africa's interior.
The slave trade and the initiative Britain has taken to combat it, have been origin and incentive to the union of all elements interested in the matter, and which have made it possible to use Muslim fanaticism in the interest of this over one thousand years old tradition of African slave trade and to call on them for war. The effects of this movement, large and small, can be seen in the positions of the Mahdi, of Tippu Tip and in the rising number of murders of Europeans in Africa's interior. To transfer christianity and European civilization to Africa by armed force is not feasible because of the width of the country and of the climate. The indigenous population would be susceptible to the European efforts if it was not suppressed by the force of arms, the higher intelligence and the
cohesion of the Arab Muslims. We could outmatch the latter only, if we strike at the source of their superiority, superior armament and the realisation of their profits, by the suppression of the import of arms and the export of slaves.
Therefore I regard it a task no Christian nation should exclude itself from, to interrupt as far as possible the import of weapons and ammunition to Africa's interior and the export of slaves. This task shall be mainly taken care of by the two powers most interested in the Sultanate of Zanzibar, Germany and Britain; but to its complete solution it is recommended, to, soon, gain the cooperation of the neighbouring Portuguese government and of His Majesty the King of Belgium for the Congo Free State. It is also recommended to kindly ask the French government for their cooperation, in order to prevent arms import into the Congo area and in order to end the abuse of the French flag in East Africa by Arab dhows.
Your Excellency will request Lord Salisbury to confirm his approval with these opinions by a note to Sir Edward Malet, in order to cause the British navy to join in a concerted blockade of the Zanzibar coast, and, like us, but operating separately, to ask the previously mentioned governments to decree respective instructions.

London, August 1st 1888

Cardinal Lavagerie, who arrived here from Algiers in order to advocate measures against slavery, yesterday held his first, much frequented lecture in Prince's Hall.
The Cardinal described his 30 years experience in the service of the cause of the liberation of slaves; during these years, 11 of his missionaries have been murdered in Africa's interior, more than 50 died from the exertion coming with their task. Still, the conditions in that part of the world have continuously deteriorated, and even in the high (p.408) plateaus of Central Africa where nature provides best for the population, slave traders have caused destruction. These slave traders would penetrate into the interior from Morocco, Tunis, Zanzibar and Egypt, at certain times and with considerable power, and would not be resisted by the demoralized inhabitants.
Cardinal Lavagerie suggested an international conference and proposed that the slave trade would have to be ended by force, and by encouraging the inhabitants to resist.
On the same occasion, Lord Granville reminded of the attempts made at the Congresses of Vienna and Verona to terminate the slave trade and expressed the belief that still today the various nations could agree on concerted actions.
This latter view has been accepted by the assembly in form of a resolution.

No.8, attachment no. 1, Report from District Chief of Lindi
Lindi, August 16th 1888
The Arab segment of the population of Lindi lives on the slave trade. All soldiers and Sultan's men are accomplices and receive their share in the robbery.
The main slave traders are :
Mahamadi Ngunga
Bachofa Hamed
Abid bin Zef
Halaal bin Zef
Salim bin Abdallah
Seliman, the Sultan's prison guard
Rashid de Pappa
and the Kadi Omani bin Jemali
The latter is given a large percentage for remaining silent.
British warships hardly ever have confiscated a slave dhow here and do not visit the port. Almost all the dhows sail under the French flag which they obtain from the consulate in Madagscar, as they have their ships measured there.
I remark simultanously that it is difficult to undertake anything here against slave trade, which is also profitable to the indigenous along the coast, without having a sufficient force at my disposal.

John Quincy Adams Knew Jihad
By Andrew G. Bostom
FrontPageMagazine.com | September 29, 2004

“Unsigned essays dealing with the Russo-Turkish War, and on Greece, written while JQA was in retirement, before his election to Congress in 1830” [Chapters X-XIV (pp. 267-402) in The American Annual Register for 1827-28-29. New York, 1830.]

John Quincy Adams possessed a remarkably clear, uncompromised understanding of the permanent Islamic institutions of jihad war and dhimmitude. Regarding jihad, Adams states in his essay series,

“…he [Muhammad] declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind…The precept of the Koran is, perpetual war against all who deny, that Mahomet is the prophet of God.”

NOTICE THAT IT IS AGAINST ALL MANKIND NOT JUST JEWS AND CHRISTIANS??

Confirming Adams’ assessment, the late Muslim scholar, Professor Majid Khadduri, wrote the following in his authoritative 1955 treatise on jihad, War and Peace in the Law of Islam :

“Thus the jihad may be regarded as Islam’s instrument for carrying out its ultimate objective by turning all people into believers, if not in the prophethood of Muhammad (as in the case of the dhimmis), at least in the belief of God. The Prophet Muhammad is reported to have declared ‘some of my people will continue to fight victoriously for the sake of the truth until the last one of them will combat the anti-Christ’. Until that moment is reached the jihad, in one form or another will remain as a permanent obligation upon the entire Muslim community. It follows that the existence of a dar al-harb is ultimately outlawed under the Islamic jural order; that the dar al-Islam permanently under jihad obligation until the dar al-harb is reduced to non-existence; and that any community accepting certain disabilities- must submit to Islamic rule and reside in the dar al-Islam or be bound as clients to the Muslim community. The universality of Islam, in its all embracing creed, is imposed on the believers as a continuous process of warfare, psychological and political if not strictly military.”3

And Adams captured the essential condition imposed upon the non-Muslim dhimmi “tributaries” subjugated by jihad, with this laconic statement,

“The vanquished may purchase their lives, by the payment of tribute.”

Indeed, the famous Shafi’i jurist of Baghdad, al-Mawardi (d. 1058), highlights the most salient aspect of the consensus view of classical Islamic jurisprudence regarding the vanquished non-Muslims “tribute”, i.e., the jizya: the critical connection between jihad and payment of the jizya. He notes that “The enemy makes a payment in return for peace and reconciliation.” Al-Mawardi then distinguishes two cases: (I) Payment is made immediately and is treated like booty, however “it does, however, not prevent a jihad being carried out against them in the future.”. (II). Payment is made yearly and will “constitute an ongoing tribute by which their security is established.” Reconciliation and security last as long as the payment is made. If the payment ceases, then the jihad resumes. A treaty of reconciliation may be renewable, but must not exceed 10 years.4 The nature of such “protection”, i.e., a blood ransom, is reinforced in this definition of jizya written by E.W. Lane, based on a careful analysis of the etymology of the term:

NOW YOU CAN HOPE THEY DON'T MEAN WHAT THEY SAY BUT HISTORY SHOWS THE OTHER SIDE??

OT I know but histroy works with history!! Real or myth

Oh gosh, Catherine the Great is on her mighty high horse again - cutting and pasting, and charging at windmills no doubt.

Paolo - don't answer her back. Just say sorry. If you say another word we'll have two thirds of a history book in here.

Catherine - put thy sword back in thy scabbard, fair maiden. That be no Morc, tis a mere Catholic.

Franze -

"This Book is one of the most current books now, and you have to know that Mordor was in the south."

As every educated Hob Goblin knows, Mordor was to the southeast of the Shire, but more importantly, it was to the east of Gondor and Rohan.

Mordor to the south? Gosh Franze, where do you come from - Ered Lithui? The Sea of Rhun? ... ur... Texas?

Franze is a proud Spaniard, so he is supposed to look beyond Gibraltar in order to look at Mordor

Not to quibble, but they're "Orcs", not "Morcs".

Well Timbo, it isn´t the same but if you have seen the movies or the book ilustrations, you know that mordor soldiers were similar to muslims mujhaideens, respect Morocco well, you have to remember that between in XVI and XVIII century many europeans were sold in Argeria and Morocco like onions, very similar to the men sold in Mordor.

"Morcs".

Nanu nanu?

Orcs - Moroccans - Muslims - MORCS!... get it?

It must have been a crap joke if I have to explain it.

The Europeans have some similarity to the Dunedain. They lack cohesive political leadership, their strength dwindles slowly over time, they are at the doorstep of the dark forces of the East (formerly manifested by communism, currently manifested by the Jihad), and their only hope is to stand up and fight and get some help from friends who do not like them or communicate with them so well any longer (the Rohan, the elves, the hobbits, the Ents, and the eagles).

The eagles are like American air power. Able to come in from anywhere at any time and turn the tide of any battle.

Americans have some qualities of both the Ents and the hobbits. We are like the Ents in that we would rather be isolationists and not be involved with the rest of the world. However, the confused nature of the rest of the world has done pushed us out of shape too much, and when we go to war we are undefeatable.

We are like the hobbits in that we are resistent to the powers of the One Ring. The One Ring in this hermeneutic interpretate as base systems of thought. These systems of thought make the rest of the world swoon, thus leaving their minds vulnerable to the insidious nature of dhimmitude and political compromise that hastens civilizational destruction. Perhaps it is our longing for the America of the past -- i.e. the solitude of the Shire -- that perpetuates our strength in the war, somehow hoping that once we solve this problem, everything will go back to the way it once was.
