What I, and quite a few people here--from what I gather by the comments at this blog--would like to see is:

" . . . [unlawful combatant(s)” subject to military trial and not “entitled to the status of prisoners of war.” ] . . .executed . . . ."

The electric chair, I believe is now considered inhumane because it does not kill "quickly and cleanly." Whatever method, whether shooting or lethal injection [too humane for unlawful combatants in my opinion], it is high time that "unlawful combatants" be executed instead of given prison terms.

Such enemies of the United States as that blind "sheik" involved in the firest WTC bombing, still causing trouble from prison via his lawyer and the many others, assuredly making converts to Islam in prison, should have been executed. No need to shed tears for them, there are many, too many, here and more coming over every day. Their lives are no great loss, they are indistinguishable from each other, as they live only for one thing: to kill as many of us as they can.

Rsole, wonderful post, I am a big fan of History and believe in what our Forefathers efforts and sacrifices they made a long time ago ring true more now than ever.

America became complacent and was rewarded with an attack that took the lives of thousands of innocent civilians who died horrible deaths not quickly or merciful and that targeted emergency response teams with a delay in the crashing of two planes simultaneously.

This column has drawn a lot of noise and fuss, mainly because of Catherine's injured ego. Her overlong rant (one thing you should learn is that one word is better than ten) has stimulated others of like mind. Ladies and gentlemen: you do not have to make grand assertions of your commitment to liberty. (Not, of course, unless you want to silence some lingering doubt about your real commitment to it.) Both my grandfathers fought the Germans, and a member of my family was murdered in Dachau. When I was a child, I was shown the places around my city (Milan) where the citizens risen and driven a powerful occupying army out of the city in 1848, and the place where, less than a century later, the partisans had swept in (days before any allied troops) and chased the Nazis out. Liberty and the love of liberty are not American prerogatives. (Alas, neither are bad manners.) And I really fail to understand what short skirts have to do with anything.

The problem is that all this noise and fuss have taken everyone's eye off the ball. And the ball is not so much Shamil Basayef's vile views and disgusting vanity; nobody ever imagined that this man was anything but a monster. It is that the detestable Channel Four News - the most thoroughly anti-American, prejudiced, and narrowly pseudo-liberal of Britain's major media outlets - gave him a lengthy and uncensored media spot to air them. By all accounts, even Channel Four's own regular listeners were outraged; as for the rest of us, the issue is why, knowing how to reach this mass murderer, the journalist did not simply inform the Russian army of his whereabouts. His opinions are of no interest to anyone except people willing to become his accomplices; his execution, on the other hand, would be of interest - not unmixed with pleasure - to the whole world. This is one of those times when the media left really goes too far. Or maybe the idea of a "scoop" has such hold of their minds that they do not understand simple facts any more.
