He was a founding director of a Scarborough mosque and a doting father who brought his children to the park for picnics on weekends.Now he's been named as a key commander of a terrorist group linked to Al Qaeda that's fighting against the Americans in Iraq.
The allegation was made this week by Jim Judd, director of Canada's spy service.
Hassan Farhat, known as Abdul Jaber to security officials and Abu Khalid to friends, was a landed immigrant who left Canada in October 2001 to return to Iraq.
He left in frustration after years of being refused Canadian citizenship, his friends say.
According to corporate records, he was one of the founding directors of Scarborough's Salaheddin Islamic Centre, which houses a school and mosque and has been closely monitored by security agencies.

Wonder what the Canadian govt will do when these "citizens" come back after years abroad with injuries from their escapades in the ME...will they take them back and offer them free medical care as in the case of the other family that was welcomed back because they were "citizens" ....these people are citizens of convenience and make no mistake when things get too rough will come back even if it is only to regroup and recover so they can return to fight...lets hope the govt makes the right choice when this happens.
Is this a coincidence? The Salaheddin Islamic Centre is the same mosque the Khadr family attended. If you are unfamiliar with that name, Ahmed Khadr was a senior al Qaeda member until he was killed in a shoot-out with Pakistani security. His son, Karim was seriously wounded in the shootout, his son Omar Khadr is currently being held in Guantanimo prison, and has admitted to planting mines and attacking US soldiers in Afgahnistan. His son Abdullah Khadr is still at large, possibly in Pakistan.
His son Abdurahman was captured in Kabul & sent to Gitmo. He was released when he agreed to provide information and to work undercover for the CIA. After initially denying his family was in al Qaeda, he has since declared that they all were. He was subsequently denounced & disowned by his mother & sister.

Interesting that the Toronto Star would finally break this story. Several years ago, the now defunct Frank Magazine alleged that a Toronto Star reporter wore a wire while attending services in a local mosque and wanted to write about the bile and spleen being preached therein, but the story got spiked.
Maybe Harroun Siddiqui is on vacation somewhere.
On the other side of Hogtown, there was a post this on FrontPageMag.com from HonestReporting about Toronto Sun columnist Eric Margolis (half Jewish/half some kind of Arab heritage, not necessarily Muslim) and his recent psychotic rants, including the one alleging that Israeli scientists were trying to develop deadly micro-organisms that were only deadly to Arabs and that the Mossad was likely the perpetrator of the Hariri assassination in Beirut.
The story must be true - even the CBC radio had a segment devoted to it this morning.
Kenneth: The person the CBC interviewed this morning stated that Abdul Jaber (or whatever his alias is) was a friend of Khadr senior.

The Khadr Klan were welcomed back with open arms by the Muslims from that Mosque and had support from a couple of Islamic Org.'s in Canada that usually denounce terrorism by Muslims for the damage it does to Islam.
When the Khadr boy needed medical attention
and couldn't pay for it in Afghanistan,his Mother had a conversion from the Darkside and demanded she be allowed back in Canada even after losing several Passports that got replaced in good faith.
Canadians were outraged that these Muslims only wanted Canada to foot the bill for the Jihadist son that was shot during an Al-Qeada shoot-out
against Canadian and American troops in the NATO lead fight in Afghanistan.
In an effort to counter the outrage against the Khadr Klan,the Mosque leader made a statement
that was akin to Hitler's eugenics crusade,the
Imam told the media that the fundraising within the Mosque was supporting the Khadrs.
His obscene comment was that "Non-Muslims are a far greater burden on social programs because of un-godly lives and lower values that cause sinful behaviour.
TRANSLATION:
When Islam and Sharia-Law are the governing powers in Canada the weak and unproductive will be purged from society to create a superior race that will enforce the Quranic laws and kill any enemies of Islam.
And CAIR is one of the Yahoo's demanding
Shariah-Law for female Muslims in Canada,the real irony here is Shemma Khan at CAIR is also on a Board for Civil Liberties and social Justice.
Khan is a puppet for the Wahabbists that are funding Mosques to teach Shariah and recruit
Jihadists to die for Allah's cause.
