Christian sentenced to seven years in jail on blasphemy charges

Another story about Bashir Masih, underscoring how Pakistan's blasphemy law is used as a weapon against the disadvantaged. From Asia News, with thanks to Emergency Room:

Multan (AsiaNews) – Pakistan’s blasphemy laws strike Christians again. Bashir Masih, a 30-year-old Christian, was sentenced to seven years in jail for desecrating the Qu’ran.

“It is a tragic situation. This law strikes at the poor, those who cannot defend themselves, the people who lack the means to be heard,” Mgr Joseph Coutts, Bishop of Faisalabad, told AsiaNews. But according to the judge, Bashir Masih tore a copy of the Qu’ran to use in some occult practices.

Even though the sentence was pronounced on February 23 in the Civil Court in Chishtian, a town located in the diocese of Multan, the case did not receive any publicity. Local NGOs and human rights groups are still unaware of the case.

Shame on Pakistan!
Its draconian hudood ordinances, its tribal based jirga systems that promote honor and revenge rape and killing, its pathetic treatment of minorities (most notably Christians and Ahmediyas - also known as Qadanis), its hopeless education system now almost completely dominated by wahabi funded madrasas, its ..need I go on?

"Local NGOs and human rights groups are still unaware of the case."

Not anymore.

Other persecuted Christians in Pakistan and elsewhere.

The persecution of Christians in muslim countries is the greatest tragedy of the 20th century. The genocide of Christians and animists in Sudan, and the genocide of East Timorese, are just the extreme examples of a general systematic genocide taking place.

The shame of the West is that it allowed these to happen, as they did not wish to hurt the sensitivities of muslims. Thus were these Christians in muslim nations, sacrificed on the altar of Political Correctness. PC is not just being nice. It has a high price, and has been payed by poor victmised Christians in dar al islam.

Boycott Pakistan. Don't buy their goods unless it says specifically that it is non Muslim.
