But commercial airliners are also "likely to remain a target and a platform for terrorists," the report says, and members of Al Qaeda appear determined to study and test new American security measures to "uncover weaknesses."
The TSA/HSA has been a huge waste of money! Having a high placed source [a brother working w/ the TSA/US Marshalls] reveals the system has been a huge Make-Work program for the least interested of our workforce.
If there is any tangible improvement in saftey, its more to do with the few govt people who actually perceive a threat and act on their degree of professionalism. The remainder of the TSA "security initiatives" has been to hire baggage-screeners who sleep through the day, and who are high-school drop outs.
The airlines are financially failing, so what seems to be the cure? Spend billions to harass the paying customers who simply want to get to their arrival place. I need ID to fly now - how does THAT improve security? I need to leave my luggage unlocked so that $7/hr employees can decide which items to steal from me. How is that an improvement?
Yet, I could cross the Mexican border with no ID, and little to no hassle. The average compliant American has the force of the TSA/HSA grinding down on them, but, the borders are just as permeable as ever. Fortunately for us, the Mexican illegals are hard-working, peaceful, pro-Americans who just want to make a buck.
Nice going George! Perhaps we should extend the veil of security & safety to require ID before boarding a train! Dont want a Madrid event here, and we all know that ID's prevent Bombs. We should even extend that to presenting ID when crossing a bridge/tunnel. Surely they are targets...
The latest arguments have been that there is no security being conducted on ramp personal,baggage handlers, Etc. Once they get there I.D. they move about freely at will while having full access to aircraft baggage and passenger compartments. Do the gate guards know these people by site? are they asked to show a 2nd I.D. before being allowed on the tarmack? Are authorized vehicles locked and secured when not in use. Are employees asked to keep their passes secure and try to avoid predictable patterns ? Are trucks entering the tarmack areas routinely searched? How safe are the fence barriers around airports? It is no doubt a difficult task to keep a vigilant eye 24 hrs a day. So far ,so good. Personally, I worry more about the thousands of trucks, let alone cars that drive thru are cities and no one has a clue has to who they might be.

Today, more than 35,000 youths are members of gangs in Honduras, a country of 7 million people. El Salvador has approximately 30,000 gang members and Guatemala has 14,000. In Mexico, where nearly 1,000 Central American gang members have been arrested in the past two years, gangs are taking hold in cities on the southern and northern borders, including Tijuana.
The National Youth Gang Center estimates the United States now has 750,000 gang members. California has roughly 365,000 members, 100,000 of them in Los Angeles County. Every state in the nation now reports being plagued by gangs.
"I sound like Paul Revere riding across the country and shouting the alarm, 'The gangs are coming. The gangs are coming,' " said Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton.
For Central America's countries, the problem is certain to grow early next year when the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, launches a nationwide gang-enforcement program.
"We're trying to come up with ideas and different strategies" to combat gangs whose violent activities "pose a serious threat to national security," said Michael Keegan, the ICE spokesperson in Washington, D.C., on gang enforcement.
Already, ICE agents are patrolling U.S. cities and rounding up foreign-born gang members.
In Charlotte, N.C., more than 100 gang members were arrested during an ICE operation last year. In San Diego, ICE agents arrested 45 gang members during a five-week operation in October and November.
