The U.S. government charged 18 people with trafficking in Russian-made weapons, including grenade launchers, shoulder-fired missiles and machine guns, the Associated Press reported.
The arrests resulted from a yearlong wiretap investigation that had an informant posing as someone trying to sell weapons to terrorists, U.S. Attorney David Kelley's office in New York said, AP reported.
The unidentified defendants are charged with weapons trafficking, as well as conspiring to traffic in machine guns and other assault weapons, and with selling eight such arms, Kelley's office said in a statement.

According to Serbian Orthodox Church sources, more than 40 Orthodox Churches and monasteries in Kosovo were destroyed by Albanians since the NATO peace forces took over control of the province.
Orthodox Bishop Atanasije Rakita, director of the Serbian Orthodox Church's information service, said that, in addition, 200 Serbian villages were systematically destroyed in this southern province.

The ranking American commander in Kosovo has told the Boston Globe that "peacekeepers" are destined to remain in the Balkans for ''at least a generation.''
The interview with Brigadier General Ricardo Sanchez, commander of Task Force Falcon, appeared just after Defense Secretary William S. Cohen had been thanking United States troops stationed there as part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization invasion and occupation of Yugoslavia.
In its Tuesday story, the Globe reported:
• At this same time, Congress is growing increasingly unhappy with the Clinton-Gore administration's open-ended military deployments in the Balkans.
• Last week, when senators quizzed Cohen about troop commitments, the secretary acknowledged that, contrary to earlier White House assurances, U.S. forces will not be removed from the Balkans during his final months in office, possibly not even during the next administration.
• That prompted Sen. Ernest F. Hollings, D-S.C., to advise Cohen and Gen, H. Hugh Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to stop ''whistling Dixie.''
Urging them to give ''a realistic appraisal of where we are headed'' in Kosovo, Hollings said, ''We ought to stop kidding each other.''

The Russians have begun an overt campaign to drive a wedge between the U.S. and its NATO partners. Russian president Vladimir Putin is attempting to win European support by ratifying two pacts viewed as important by the European NATO members – the START II nuclear arms reduction treaty and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) covering nuclear testing.
START II, signed in 1993, was never approved by the Russian parliament under Yeltsin. But Putin won the ratification, putting the United States in the uncomfortable position of having to ratify the agreement the NATO allies favor, if it is to be put into force. U.S. failure to ratify the pact will in effect kill it, giving Putin a victory in his attempts to split the NATO alliance.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army is to release a report Monday detailing alleged brutality by U.S. peacekeepers against civilians in Kosovo, news reports said.
ABCNEWS says several members of the Army's 82nd Airborne Division beat, threatened and illegally detained civilians they were assigned to protect.
Army officials refused to comment on the military report other than to say the alleged misconduct was limited to this one unit, A Company in the 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
"This squad was bad news," one senior Army official told CNN Friday. "They were bad apples." Another official described the unit as "generally abusive" toward women.

BELGRADE, Yugoslavia (UPI) - Belgrade district court surprised defense lawyers in Serbia by issuing arrest warrants for a group of Western leaders, including former President Bill Clinton, who were each sentenced to 20 years in prison during the regime of ousted President Slobodan Milosevic for crimes against humanity and international law.
The charges arose from NATO's bombardment of Yugoslavia in 1999, which followed unsuccessful international efforts in France to get the Yugoslav government to halt the repression of ethnic Albanians in Kosovo and an incident at a Kosovo village where Yugoslav security forces were accused of staging a massacre.
The district court passed the sentences Sept. 21 in a move seen by the opposition at the time as a farce deliberately timed to come three days before the Yugoslav presidential and parliamentary elections for maximum impact on undecided voters.
The 14 leaders convicted also included then U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Defense Secretary William Cohen, French President Jacque Chirac and Premier Lionel Jospin, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and foreign and defense ministers. Both former and present NATO secretary-generals, Javier Solana and George Robertson, and the former NATO supreme commander in Europe, Gen. Wesley Clark, were also among the convicted.

Globalist Clinton Accused of 'War Crimes'
Bill Clinton saddled the U.S. with the International Criminal Court without even submitting the treaty to the U.S. Senate for ratification, despite warnings the court could be used to persecute Americans for bogus "war crimes." Now, with rich irony, Clinton himself is being accused of war crimes.
The lawyer for a Croatian general indicted by the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague says his client's case opens the possibility that Clinton will be charged with crimes against humanity for authorizing a Croatian military offensive in 1995, the Washington Times reported today.

The high-ranking Croatian general was indicted in June 2001 by the U.N. War Crimes Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, precursor of the ICC, on charges that he exercised "command responsibility" over the military campaign in which 150 Serbian civilians were killed.
"Secretly supported by the Clinton administration, Croatian forces launched a three-day massive military offensive — known as 'Operation Storm' — on Aug. 5, 1995 in which Croatia recovered territories occupied by rebel Serbs following Croatia's bloody drive for independence from Yugoslavia in 1991," the Times said. Gotovina is also accused of overseeing the "ethnic cleansing" of 150,000 Serbs.

A Washington Times dispatch out of Zagreb, Croatia reports the Balkans war crimes tribunal "is examining whether charges are warranted against former President Bill Clinton and his aides for supporting a 1995 military offensive by Croatia that recaptured territory then held by Serbian rebel forces.”
The demand to indict Clinton comes from the Croatian World Congress, which also names Clinton’s National Security Adviser Anthony Lake, National Security Adviser Samuel "Sandy” Berger, Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, and former U.S. Ambassador to Croatia Peter Gailbraith.

Actions and threats by international courts in recent years have convinced many critics that they are focal points of anti-U.S. hatred. There is a firm belief among citizens here and in some high government places that these bodies are set up in large part to weaken the U.S. in confronting its enemies, just as they are convinced the Kyoto "global warming” treaty was set up to weaken the U.S. economy.
Clinton's Damage Never Ends
Even when he signed the ICC treaty, Clinton said it was flawed. He did not submit it to the Senate for ratification.
President Bush has rejected U.S. participation in the tribunal, for which he has been roundly criticized by overseas friends and enemies alike. Among the critics are our "allies” in the European Union who showed little disdain for American military power when it was there to pull their chestnuts out of the fire in two world wars and defend them from being overrun by the Soviets during the Cold War.
But despite all the hue and cry, the U.S. does not stand alone in its skepticism of the ICC. Fred Gedrich of Freedom Alliance reminded NewsMax.com that "two thirds of the world’s governments, representing five-sixths of the world’s 6 billion population, are not on board with this court. The group includes China, India, Japan, Russia and Israel.”
The Balkans court that is now considering indicting Clinton angered U.S. officials two years ago by looking into a complaint against NATO commanders for their role in the 1999 U.S.-led bombing of Yugoslavia.
LOOKS LIKE ONCE AGAIN NOT GOOD TO HAVE A WEAK LEADER WHO IS BRIBED SO EASY?
It is irrelevant that many patriotic Americans opposed that war, convinced that it was a quagmire waged in large part to distract the public from the recently impeached Clinton’s legal problems. The point is the court’s actions against NATO commanders would have set a precedent for hauling Americans before foreign tribunals without any of the constitutional protections guaranteed all U.S. citizens.
NewsMax.com has reviewed the Rome Statute that created the ICC. It is filled with language allowing for plenty of armchair second-guessing by anyone who has a beef with the U.S. pursuit of its own defense in the war on terrorism.

One of the acts specified in the article is "Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group.”
An alert NewsMax reader, Timothy Yocum, interprets this to mean some of the world’s most fervent abortion promoters could find themselves in trouble with the new world tribunal on this count.

"Crimes Against Humanity,” according to the treaty, could cover "persecution against any identifiable group or collectively on political, ethnic, cultural, religious” grounds "impermissible under international law.”
Notwithstanding President Bush’s emphasis on going after terrorists, NOT all Muslims, the mere fact that most of those who conducted terrorism against us on Sept. 11 and have threatened us since then did so "in the name of Allah” has put us in the position of having to go after people who happen to be radical fundamentalist Muslims. The language in the above paragraph could conceivably result in an ICC prosecutor’s decision to indict American officials on phony charges related to the treaty’s wording.
Under the heading "War Crimes,” the ICC includes "Intentionally directing attacks against civilian objects, that is, objects which are not military objectives.”
This one could have been used against Presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman in World War II. FDR’s "terror bombings” against Germany were controversial in this country, especially after the war was over and there was time to look at them from the advantage of hindsight. So too with Truman’s decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan, even though that initiative was taken to save thousands of American lives.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands -- The former prime minister of Kosovo was charged Thursday by a U.N. tribunal with 37 counts of war crimes for alleged atrocities against Serbs.
Ramush Haradinaj surrendered to the court on Wednesday after resigning. Two other alleged Kosovo Albanian rebel commanders also turned themselves in. As the commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army, "Haradinaj personally ordered, controlled and participated in beatings" of civilians, according to the indictment unsealed by U.N. judges.
The charges were broken down by U.N. prosecutors into 17 counts of crimes against humanity for alleged murder, rape, persecution, inhumane acts, unlawful detention, deportation or forcible transfer of civilians. It also accused him of 20 counts of violations of the laws or customs of war for cruel treatment, murder and rape.
Haradinaj, 36, could face life imprisonment if convicted of any of the charges stemming from the 1998-99 war between ethnic Albanian separatists and Serb forces.

The Iraqi official, Sami al-Araji, the deputy minister of industry, said it appeared that a highly organized operation had pinpointed specific plants in search of valuable equipment, some of which could be used for both military and civilian applications, and carted the machinery away.

Yes, that's Exactly the thing. We Don't know how much is going on covertly. Bush may be far from perfect, but how much is being accomplished that we'll never hear about, meanwhile he takes all the heat for the way he appears on these issues?
