From AP (thanks to Shiva) comes more evidence of jihadist gang activity in Washington DC, Boston, and New York -- linked to Al Qaida (click on the DC and Boston links) and the smuggling of potential terrorists in from Mexico.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- More than 100 alleged members of the violent Central American street gang MS-13 have been arrested in a nationwide sweep, authorities said Monday.Using information from local and state law enforcement agencies, federal agents charged 103 members of the Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, gang with a range of criminal and immigration charges. The arrests came in the New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Newark, Miami and Dallas metropolitan areas over the last several weeks.
Officials said MS-13 is one of the largest and most violent street gangs in the United States, and the majority of its members are in the country illegally. The gang has carried out beheadings and grenade attacks in Central America and is known to hack their enemies with machetes in cities along the East Coast in the United States.
The arrests are the result of a new "Operation Community Shield" nationwide sting by the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to target violent gangs....
Half of the alleged gang members have prior arrests or convictions for violent crimes, including murder, sodomy, assault, arson and weapons and drug possession, officials said.
In one example, on March 13 agents arrested a man who acknowledged he is a founding member and leader of the MS-13 cell in Hollywood, officials said. The man, who was charged with immigration violations, was previously convicted in the United States for robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon and mail theft.
Authorities also arrested the purported leader of the MS-13 cell in Long Branch, New Jersey. on March 10. The suspect has a criminal rap sheet that includes charges of arson, weapons possession and grand larceny, officials said. He was also arrested on immigration charges.
Last month, former Homeland Security Deputy Secretary James Loy called MS-13 an emerging threat to the United States, referring to the gang and the al-Qaida terrorist organization in the same breath in testimony to Congress. Besides al-Qaida, Loy said, "We are seeing the emergence of other threatening groups and gangs like MS-13 that will also be destabilizing influences."...

No one likes drug addicts. It is natural to want to eliminate the narcotics trade. But at the same time it is necessary to realize the effects of the outlawing of the narcotics trade is having internationally.
First, it is already been found by the CIA (years ago) that Ousamah bin Laden is the world's most prominent druglord. Many druglords and even the Sicilian mafia do business with al-qaeda and other Islamic mafias. We cannot necessarily prevent such activity... especially when these activities are conducted in foreign nations (many of which like Brazil are openly hostile towards the United States and are capable of restricting US law enforcement officials from even entering their territory). It cannot therefore be taken for granted by Americans that the 'war on the drug' trade's side effects can be contained. If nations unwilling to side with us have anything to say about it we probably CAN'T stop al-Qaeda et al from continuing to profit off narcotics.
By keeping narcotics banned by means of the 'War on Drugs', the US government is ABSOLUTELY SKYROCKETING the price of narcotis and other illicit drugs. When terrorists from the Islamic 'world' profit and have learned to continue profiting from it (and apply the income to global jihad) the 'War on Drugs' is having a side effect WORSE than the disease. Do we need to be doing this? Did we really want to contain Islamic terrorism?
Even if Islamic terror wasn't involved (but rest assured, it is) the amounts of capital being made off the global trade in illicit drugs is enough to keep the criminal cartels of the world busy perpetrating every crime imaginable in order to profit from it to the fullest. It boggles the mind to contemplate the amount of violence the War on Drugs may have caused simply by making drugs profitable for criminal elements. I haven't said this was intended. It wasn't. But does it matter anyway?
It is clear from even a cursory look at the facts that the US government will be unable to win the War on Terror while fighting its 'War on Drugs.' It cannot stop al-Qaeda and other Islamist terror mafias from profiting off it, no matter how much money it can spend trying to. If drugs were legalized (the US government could monopolize the trade to discourage people from being addicts which it probably will) the profit from the narcotis trade would deflate and the wind would literally be taken out of Islamic and other mafias profiting from the narcotics trade.
It should be clear that winning the War on Terror is a greater priority than winning the War on Drugs.

Prohibition does not work. We're loosing way too many potential tax dollars and too many people are dieing because of the illegal drug trade. Legalization, taxation, and control by the government is the only sensible and logical answer.

A high level leader of the Mara Salvatruchas, Ebner Anivel Rivera-Paz, has issued orders, from federal prison, to members of his extremely violent organization to teach the Minutemen vigilantes a lesson they will never forget, La Voz de Aztlan has learned.
The Mara Salvatruchas (MS-13) are a consequence of USA policies in Central America and are just another example of "the chickens coming home to roost". Its members are the sons of immigrants from El Salvador and other Central American countries that were forced to flee because of the CIA instigated war during the Reagan Administration that completely destroyed the physical, economic, social, religious and cultural infrastructure of the region. MS-13 was founded in Los Angeles by the offspring of the immigrants for protection. Later, many of the members were deported back to Central America where they expanded their operations and joined up with former members of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN).
Today, the Mara Salvatruchas have grown immensely in numbers and their network has expanded through Mexico all the way to Canada. The extremely violent group controls large portions of the drug, stolen vehicle and immigrant smuggling operations along the US/Mexico border and will not put up with clowns like the Minutemen vigilantes. The amateurish Minutemen may be in for a big surprise on April Fools Day and on the subsequent days that they plan to patrol the border with Mexico in Arizona. The Mara Salvatruchas are known to cut the "testicles" of their enemies and feed them to their vicious dogs. Other times they have cut the heads off their opponents to play football soccer with them. These are not people to mess around with.
There is a good probability that very few cowardly Minutemen vigilantes will show up on April 1st in Tombstone, Arizona. The principal imbeciles organizing the event are known to be mere loudmouths. The morons think that they will be just having "some fun in the sun" hunting down defenseless Mexican migrant workers but instead may meet up with the devil himself. Satan has a very warped sense of humor and April 1st would be an excellent day to express it.

MEXICO CITY - Anti-immigrant sentiment appears to be growing in the United States, Mexican President Vicente Fox said Wednesday, and he urged U.S. officials to act quickly to control movements like the 950-member-strong Minuteman Project on the Mexico-Arizona border.
Fox said he plans to push for U.S. immigration reform during a meeting with President Bush in Texas next week. He also said the two leaders, along with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, likely will announce a plan to expand the scope of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Mexico's National Human Rights Commission recently issued a warning about several new grass-roots movements inspired by Arizona's Proposition 200. Other Mexican officials have cited the Minuteman Project, a plan by activists to patrol the Arizona-Mexico border during April, as a sign of rising extremism.
"There are signs of these kinds of problems present today, and (they are) progressing," Fox said during a news conference for foreign reporters. "We have to act quickly and on time to prevent these kinds of actions."
He said Mexico was watching the Minuteman Project carefully and would take action in U.S. courts or international tribunals if any of the activists break the law.
"We totally reject the idea of these migrant-hunting groups," Fox said. "We will use the law, international law and even U.S. law to make sure that these types of groups, which are a minority . . . will not have any opportunity to progress."
Organizers of the Minuteman Project say they have signed up more than 950 volunteers, including 30 pilots with aircraft, to patrol the border for 30 days beginning April 1. The activists say they will notify the Border Patrol if they see border-crossers and will not confront them directly.
Minuteman co-organizer Chris Simcox said participants were exercising their constitutional rights.
"Vicente Fox can rant and rave all he wants, but he obviously doesn't understand what a democracy means," Simcox said. "We have been working within the law."
Fox also harshly criticized the construction of walls along the border, including a new "triple fence" planned for the San Diego area.
"We are convinced that walls don't work. They should be torn down," he said. "No country that is proud of itself should build walls. No one can isolate himself these days."
Fox said he understood Americans' concern about protecting their southern border. But he denied that terrorists have snuck into the United States through Mexico, as the FBI's director recently said.
"We have absolutely no evidence of that," he said.
Fox is meeting with Bush and Martin on Wednesday at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and at Bush's ranch in nearby Crawford. It's an effort to get North American cooperation back on track after the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
Fox said he will push for action on a "guest worker" program in the United States. He said the United States population is aging and will need Mexican labor in the future, and that turning millions of undocumented Mexicans into legal, tax-paying workers could help keep the Social Security system afloat.
The three leaders likely will announce a plan aimed at further integrating their countries' economies to compete against other trade blocs, Fox said. He called it a "new vision" that will not change the existing treaty.
It will include new border security measures, ways to share customs duties, and a continent-wide energy policy, he said. Other sections will focus on education, technology, and the financial sectors, he said.
NAFTA's critics say the 1994 trade pact has cost American manufacturing jobs while hurting Mexican farmers. But Fox noted the average Mexican income has more than doubled to $6,505 a year.
Fox said the boom of assembly plants along the border has actually helped stop illegal border-crossing, by providing jobs for people who would have gone to the United States.
"That's also part of security on the border, to have this cushion where people can find a job on the Mexican side," he said.
My daughter's boyfriend, who works in law enforcement, found a body by the side of the road in the early morning in the Washington DC area where the MS-13 gang is active. From conversations with other officers, he gathered that it was most probably a MS-13 murder. I am not sure about the direct cause and effect between the drug war and the MS-13 members, but I strongly suspect that if all drugs were made legal tomorrow, the gangs would not give up and become computer techs, nurses or teachers. Their main agenda seems to be violence and power and a total hatred for ordered societies. If they are not already, I think that it is very reasonable to believe that they would link with Islamic terrorists and that a number of them would find a religious home in Islam.

Overburdened by the uninsured and overwhelmed by illegal immigration (search), public health care in Los Angeles is on life support.
Sixty percent of the county's uninsured patients are not U.S. citizens. More than half are here illegally. About 2 million undocumented aliens in Los Angeles County alone are crowding emergency rooms because they can't afford to see a doctor.
According to the State Association of Hospitals (search), California's public health system is "on the brink of collapse." In Los Angeles County, patients can wait four days for a hospital bed and up to two years for gallbladder surgery.
"The hospitals are closing because of the totality of the uninsured," said Dr. Thomas Garthwaite, director of the Los Angeles County Health Department (search). "If you're legally a resident in California and you're poor, you have a right to basic services."
But some critics say the taxpayers can't be the HMO (search) to the world. Last year, Los Angeles County spent $340 million to treat the uninsured; that's roughly $1,000 for every taxpayer.
Mike Antonovich, the Los Angeles County supervisor, said the system has been "basically bankrupted."
The Department of Health has a $1.2 billion deficit. Caring for illegals is siphoning money from other services and forcing clinics, trauma centers and emergency rooms to close, he said.
"We cannot afford to have a open-door policy to encourage illegals to continue to come here and receive all the medical care, because it's too expensive," he said.
Immigrants like Yolanda Hernandez, however, argue that if there were cheap insurance plans available to her community, people would buy them.
"[Americans] have enough money to pay for insurance," she said. "They make good money and are educated. Unfortunately, we are not."
The fact is that it is people like Yolanda Hernandez who is not an American citizen, but a Mexican National that are driving the cost of medical insurance through the roof for the average American citizen who is forced to pay for his or her medical treatment.
Everyone seems to be missing the point:
-the well-to-do folks LOVE cheap labor.
Porous borders equals an illegal serf class. Docile, tractible and semi-invisible.
That fact will prevent the country from being able to defend itself. Because the leadership will bow to the moneyed interests who buy their allegiance with every legal form of sponsorship, and guaranteed cushy jobs after they hold office.
In the small scheme it means:
Nannies for Congresswomen. Gardeners for Senators. Migrant fruit and vegetable pickers for the restaurants, supermarkets, and the entire Wal-Mart-ish anti-union trend. Landscapers for every city and town. Office cleaners undercutting those who are born citizens, or are here legally, seeking a living wage.
In the large scale it becomes:
an alien sub-culture eroding a nation it has nothing but contempt for.
Thank your business interests who pay for the best government money can buy. And care nothing for their neighbors or their nation, except in patriotic-sounding commercials when elections roll around. Since, if they did have any concern for the future of the country, they would not want America inexorably destroyed for their own short term gain.
The pacifying myth:
"They are only doing jobs Americans don't want to do."
The reality:
"We don't want to pay a decent wage."
Because, if the wages were scaled high enough for a normal human being to live on, Americans would be doing the landscaping, office cleaning, nannying, etc.--- as they did before the serf class was allowed to flood in and force an illegitimate and creeping bi-lingual culture upon the U.S.
The gangs like MS-13 are just the edge of this "La Raza" machete.

As far as the 'narco-terror' problem goes, I have always liked the bumper sticker:

What you do not control is thereby out of control.
(Criminalizing an essentially medical problem has worked about as well as it has against gambling... oh, that's right, most states now control their own legalized numbers betting rackets... after utterly demonizing it and driving into the hands of crooks for most of a century...)
No point deporting them---they will come right back through our non-existent borders. What's needed is to change our penal code, e.g. rapists and killers get life (as in for the rest of their life, not 20 years) without parole or the death sentence. Cold-blooded killers and child molesters should be executed on the spot by the police. Right now these low life spend quality time in prison, eat well, work out, make new friends, so that when they get out they are even more deadly.
Government and PC politicians are unwilling to protect citizens, so all that's left for citizens to do is to get into debt while bidding desperately for expensive real estate in an effort to ensure their children's safety. The cause of the current housing market bubble is our broken justice system.
