He's really sorry now, but last month he stabbed an MP. Oh, never mind: that was just an "opportunistic stabbing." From AP, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A military jury sentenced a soldier to death Thursday for a grenade and rifle attack on his own comrades during the opening days of the Iraq invasion, a barrage that killed two officers and that prosecutors said was driven by religious extremism.Sgt. Hasan Akbar, who gave a brief, barely audible apology hours earlier, stood at attention between his lawyers as the verdict was delivered. He showed no emotion....
The sentence will be reviewed by a commanding officer and automatically appealed. If Akbar is executed, it would be by lethal injection.
"I want to apologize for the attack that occurred. I felt that my life was in jeopardy, and I had no other options. I also want to ask you for forgiveness," Akbar told the jury before it deliberated in the sentencing phase.
His life was in jeopardy. But it was in jeopardy from the Iraqis and other Muslims he thought he was defending, not from his fellow Americans.
NO fan of killing anybody, I'll gladly make an exception to killing off jihadis.
Sure, changing hearts and minds is the nicer options, or getting muslim populations to convert to any of the 'true religions' but for now, killing jihadis will have to do.
P.S: Does anyone know of any good video games that involves eliminating jihadis online??
Call me old-fashioned, but a thorough hanging, or reasonably-precise firing squad, certainly sounds good right now.
That's a dvd I would like to own.
Havoc -- I agree with the sentence of death, but let's not join the crowd who gets ghoulish pleasure from executions preserved on videotape. The Muslims who behead their enemies and then sell the DVD of their "exploits" throughout the Muslim world are like Aztecs with camcorders; let's keep our cultural distance from them.
Akbar Sentenced to Death for Grenade Attack
" ... After jurors reached a verdict, they voted on whether to reconsider the decision after one juror asked that they do so.
The sentence will be reviewed by a commanding officer and automatically appealed ..."

I read the FNC article this morning. I thought this paragraph was the standout of the article;
"He is a hate-filled, ideologically driven murderer," chief prosecutor Lt. Col. Michael Mulligan said. He added that Akbar wrote in his diary in 1997, "My life will not be complete unless America is destroyed."
The stabbing incident shows that Akbar continues to be a mortal threat to anyone around him. This makes him a menace to society and prison is still part of society. Akbar can be expected to continue this behavior no matter where he is desert, bathroom, courtroom, or prison cell. Therefore the death penalty seems appropriate in this case. He can't be allowed to murder prison guards or other prisoners that don't meet his religious expectations.
I was on a jury in a murder case. The man was found guilty and during the sentencing phase we were asked to determine if he would continue to be a threat to society. If he was then he should get the death penalty. If he wasn’t then he could get life. The man’s behavior lead us all to believe that he would kill again given the chance. He got the death penalty. Akbar clearly displays behavior that would lead any reasonable person to believe that he will kill again. It’s a no-brainer. .
There is nothing more evil, backward, or hypocritical than killing for religious purposes. It's just pure "Bizzaro world."
f.g.
What's his beef, now he gets to meet Allah.
f.g.
I agree with you. Akhbar is now trying to get sympathy by apologising, and giving some lame excuses about fear for his life. He hopes that this, and the charge of islamophobia against the jury and society in general, will get him off the death penalty. However, this man is a devious religious fanatic, and will use any reprieve granted him, to murder Americans the first chance he gets.
I wonder if he will change his name to “Allah Akbar” before the sentence is carried out?
Lethal injection is so un-Islamic!
He must be given a Sharia-appropriate sentence as a Muslim!
Saudi Arabia supplies us with the model.
A guillotine would be the current Western version of the Mohammadan's swung sword.
But a firing squad would be more military.
I'm just glad the jury didn't "go wobbly", to use Margaret Thatcher's concise expression (used during the original Gulf War when she chided the first President Bush: "Don't go wobbly on me now, George.")
It doesn't matter if the guy says he is sorry, because I think we already knew that.
One sorry son of a bitch.
You wanna bet that he finds Jesus and his sentence will be reduced to life in Jail?
Terminator: I'm not going to hold my breath that conversion to Christ will save Mark Fidel Kools/Hassan Akbar from Jack Ketch. There was a case in Texas of a woman who murdered her husband, converted on death row, yet still failed to get a reprieve from the then-governor, Dubya Bush. Frankly, the only mercy that a truly repentent Hassan Akbar is likely to get will be from the Judge of all the Earth before whom all of us must one day stand.
