Iraqi woman MP Assassinated

From Reuters, "Iraqi MP Killed; No Government Announced"

BAGHDAD - Gunmen assassinated an Iraqi woman member of parliament Wednesday in a fresh shock to politicians whose failure to form a government three months after elections has allowed violence to thrive unchecked.

Iraqi police said Lame'a Abed Khadawi, a member of caretaker Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's political party, was shot dead outside her house in eastern Baghdad. She is the first person in the 275-seat National Assembly to be killed.

Allawi himself survived a suicide car bomb attack on his convoy this month. Khadawi was one of around 90 women elected to the assembly on Jan. 30. By law, a third of the candidates on party lists had to be women.

Pressure has mounted on Iraq's politicians to end months of post-election bickering. America's top general urged them on Tuesday to form a new government quickly to combat an insurgency he said was as strong as it had been a year ago...

Hopes of announcing a government have repeatedly been dashed during three months of squabbling over the distribution of ministries to rival sects. Politicians had hoped the election would lead Iraq to stability and economic recovery...

Bush and Rice will fix that quickly, after all they know how hospitable Islam is to Democracy!

Islamic equality for women in action.

Islamic equality for women in action.

Nonsense, sir. She was killed not for being a woman but for apparently being a member of Allawi's party. While I am unsure as to whether her targetting was sanctioned by Islamic Sacred Law (in fact, I incline more towards that this action is not sanctioned; also note the conspicuous lack of a claim of responsibility by an insurgent group), she was most definitely not killed just for being a woman.

Shukri-

Whew!

I was worried.

Thanks for reminding us all that the Baathist Sunni jihadists kill men and women equally.

The only way that women are ever equal to men under Islam. On a slab.

Shukri-
So there is actually doubt in your mind that the murder of a duly elected government official is wrong?
You've just given a very good argument for limiting Muslim immigration to the US. I will be sending your response on to MY elected representatives.

1. If her killing was sanctioned by the sacred Islamic law, then it would be okay? What about the people that elected her? I guess they don't understand Islam very well...

2. Does the lack of claim of responsibility have some kind of connection to whether you believe it is sanctioned or not? I guess we now know who you believe interprets Islam most accurately...

Puke.

Me: Nonsense, Shurki. You didn't understand the posting; surely you're not going to carry on pretending you can't read? Kali said that islamists kill both men and women, not that she was killed for being a woman (although, of course, in various instances women can be killed in islam). Western civilizations and Subcontinental ones shy away from the 'sanctioned' murder of women, or of civilians period. Would that islam could do the same. I laughingly note that you merely "incline" towards the view that her murder was wrong, rather than accepting outright the wrongness of it.

Geoff

BigSleep: also true. Islam only promotes equality for women post mortem in this hallucinatory 'Paradise' - although, again, women are supposed to be the major inhabitants of hell in islam as well. I suppose the equality is perhaps a little hard to see through all the inequality.

RE ISLAMS TREATMENT OF WOMEN:-

Have a look at how an Australian born Muslim Cleric says we should treat women who wear modern dress - er that is.... is OK to Rape them.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/Muslim-cleric-women-incite-mens-lust-with-satanic-dress/2005/04/23/1114152362381.html

muslims have a predilection for killing muslims and non-muslims (that includes just about everyone on the planet!) for reasons that always point back to their allah and what he says. and always with self-defense as an excuse. it's getting lame, they sound like a broken record. quit it, shukri et al.

So treehugger: you believe it is wrong to murder members of a democratically elected government. Doesn't that make the US the first global criminal, then?

1953 Prime Minister Mossadegh DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED in Iran was overthrown in a joint US-UK operation. Why? Because he wanted to nationalise the oil. US & UK restored the Shah to power who liked to drop opponents from helicopters. They also managed to secure 80% of the oil revenues for THEMSELVES.

And who was it who inserted Saddam into power? The CIA. Who was it who gave Saddam lots of nice chemical weapons? America.

Allawi himself is CIA man. Everybody knows that.

1956-58 The US conspired to assassinated President Nasser of Egypt. Why? Because of his program of nationalisation.

1957-58 US attempts to overthrow President Sukarno of Indonesia. He was eventually assassinated by the CIA and replaced with a Suharto, who is notorious for torturing Indonesian citizens.

1960s The CIA was involved in an aborted plot to assassinate the French president Charles de Gaulle, because he was prepared to give Algeria its independence.

WHO IS THE BIGGEST ARMS SELLER IN THE WORLD? The US.

Wake up and do some research into the criminal activities of the United States. Stop believing your phony news services.

Gee, uh, Whitequeen, er, uh, which news services should we start believing? Al-Jazeera?

Or maybe we could just stroll down to the local Turkish bookstore and pick up a copy of Mein Kampf, or that other bestseller in the islamic world, the Protocols of Zion. Nothing beats modern information like a round or two of utterly delusional navel-gazing.

Geoff

Whitequeen-
I note that all your examples are from forty or more years ago. There is now a law in the US against such assassinations, I will be happy to look up the reference for you.
I certainly don't think the US has been right in all its actions, but show me a country or people that has. It doesn't exist on the face of this planet! I also believe that history shows that we are struggling along on an UPWARD path, and that the US can, and should be a force for good in the world.
Weapons in and of themselves aren't evil. They can protect the innocent as well as empower the wicked. Actually, I wish some of the villagers in Darfur had our weapons so that they could defend themselves.
As far as my reading habits, I can assure you that I don't rely on the MSM.

6 identical posts Whitequeen? That which you say six times is still not necessarily true.

A little hint Dearie.

Push the post button once, then sip some soothing camomile tea while you wait for it to upload. Don't keep pushing the button in temper, its not a machine gun.

Shurki:
"sir"? Maybe you have not seen my other posts but I am a woman from India.

Also, my comment was meant as sarcastic and acerbic humour (a concept foreign to Islam). I think your reference to 'sacred' law shows what a fundamentalist mind you have with which there can be no reasoning.

whitequeen:
Good history of US political manipulations, although some of the things have less prrof than others (e.g. Allawi-CIA). Even if they were from "forty years ago" (as someone criticised you for) the effects are felt very much to this day. People must learn to look at their own history with a critical eye if they wish to do so with others.

Kali, sir, please don't make fun of Shurki. Shurki does not believe in fun, and finds it "islamically humiliating".

Jane Fonda is still around if you need a poster person for your cause, she was so moral and
upstanding as a human she rebuked all violence.

In fact, when the NVA and VC sent squard to shoot Politicians that weren't Pro-communists
in the Vietnam border Provinces,Hanoi-Jane didn't see the difference in defense and offensive
efforts in "Security Of Person" human rights.
The "Anti-communism" death squards used fear to control any Vietnamese person that embraced Democracy and a religious faith that's against the State Policy. Documented attacks showed that Catholic schools for children were the target
for educating Teachers about spreading the concept of a God,the death squad entered a school and shot the teacher right in front of the children during class, they then selected several kids and bashed sharpened pencils into their ears to set an example for what happens to people
letting the poison of anti-communism propaganda corrupt their mind.

Just look to the Beslan slaughter by Islamists that will murder Gods children for Allah
and the Islamic cause.

Jane Fonda had the luxury of growing old in a democracy that she hated so much, but those children in Vietnam that were made deaf by the
"Victims" of the USA don't seem to be getting help from Jane and the only benefit is they
won't hear her latest version of Human rights
and evil capitalism.

Kali-I agree that one has to understand the historical context of a given problem. However, I prefer to focus on solutions to our CURRENT problems rather then to endlessly rehash old injustices. Energy that could go to resolving real problems that exist right now is wasted, and it really is a futile exercise after a certain point.
