London: Would-Be Suicide Bomber's Family 'Pillars of Venezuelan Society'

From the He Was A Wonderful Fellow Who Would Never Have Gotten Involved in This Sort of Thing Department, via the Scotsman, with thanks to Effractor:

Hazil Rahaman-Alan comes from a wealthy and privileged background, not from the usual backstreets which breed radicalism.

Never mind that study after study has shown that it isn't "backstreets" that breed "radicalism" at all.

His family are pillars of Venezuelan society and are still rocked by his arrest in London....

He was a devout Muslim and had worked in a mosque as a receptionist.

Rahaman-Alan travelled extensively between 2001 and 2002 visiting Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Afghanistan and Germany.

While in Germany he claimed asylum using a false name, date of birth and falsely claiming he was a Palestinian.

His actions and movements could well be mistaken for that of a terrorist. Detectives from Scotland Yard travelled the world trying to trace his life.

But there was no suggestion he held extremist political or religious views or was exposed to radical elements. Mr Dean said: "There is no evidence to suggest while in Germany he was in contact with other groups or engaged in terrorism.

"His views were that he was against terrorism. The overall pictures which emerges from Germany and Venezuela is of a placid man with some personal frustrations but no extremist views or violent intention."

He was said to be moved by the plight of starving children in Africa and wanted to turn himself into a suicide bomber to draw attention to them.

Yes, one often finds placid men with personal frustrations blowing themselves up to draw attention to the plight of the underprivileged. Happens all the time.

He existed on a shoestring in the years between 2000 and 2003 when he returned to Venezuela after being turned down for asylum in Germany.

There he planned to make the grenade he bought for less than £50 "his microphone to the world". It was only two strokes of luck which stopped him the first suicide bomber to cause mayhem in the UK.

The first was that the detonator was missing from the grenade - and a customs officer stopped him in a random check on travellers.

Effractor points out that "No link is made between this man's actions and his religion - the idea is simply not entertained. Which makes for a news article that, to my eyes and no doubt many others', is nothing short of surreal. Unsurprisingly, the good old Beeb manages to go one better, managing to omit any reference at all to Hazil's religion: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4412345.stm."

'His views were that he was against terrorism.' ~

Against his own, period. (more than likely)

The fiery-eyed ranting radicals are more honest --- and you can see them coming.

The mild-mannered, ordinary, staunch Muslim "pillars of society" that are harboring ill will toward society remind me of the maxim "the devil doesn't come among us with horns and tail; he comes in the form of a guy with a pleasant smile on his face, ready to stab you in the back." Until Methodists, Catholics, or Buddhists, to name a few, are known to be suicide bombers for the sake of their religion, it will be best to mistrust all Muslims that see to be mild-mannered, pillars of society!

Just like 19 Muslims that shaved their beards, cut their hair and wore western clothes on September 11, 2001.

You would think that we wouldn't be shocked anymore. We should be glad he was caught, but for crying out loud we should be able to easily link suicide bombings with Islam.

Moose

The BBC's distortion of reality, its deliberate telling of untruths, and not telling it's audience that this man is muslim and his reasons for trying to kill people result from his understanding of his duties as a muslim, is criminal.
For the longest time, the word moslem and arab were not used when the beeb talked about Darfur; incredible.
All bought and paid for with oil money ?

So he thought he could help the starving children of Africa by murdering unarmed British citizens. That would really impress and move Robert Mugabe and the government in Khartoum, wouldn't it?

and:

"Rahaman-Alan travelled extensively between 2001 and 2002 visiting Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Afghanistan and Germany.

While in Germany he claimed asylum using a false name, date of birth and falsely claiming he was a Palestinian.

His actions and movements could well be mistaken for that of a terrorist. Detectives from Scotland Yard travelled the world trying to trace his life."

No, nothing too suspicious about someone who would so falsely claim to be Palestinian and be travelling extensively between 2001 and 2002 to such innocuous places as KSA, Sudan and Afghanistan.

It is because people like this would be suicide bomber are so lacking in consience due to their mental condition (as the result of holding firmly an ideological beleif system or having psychiatric pathology) that they can kind and evil at the same time. Being kind to those close to them nourishes/benefits them, but if being evil to others outside their inner circle benefits them in some abstract way (e.g. successful Jihad/Paradise) they can be evil.

Shakespeare from "Richard the Third"

"Why, I can smile. and murder while I smile;
And cry content, to that which grieves my heart;
And wet my cheeks with artificial tears,
And frame my face to all occasions . . ."

Remind you of anyone?

The BBC's determination to filter out 'negative images' of Islam and Muslims grows stronger all the time. More compare and contrast:

I don't doubt this individual had psychiatric problems but the fact remains he was reading from the Koran when he went on his stabbing rampage. Not an entirely incidental detail surely?

Protecting the Muslim savages from scrutiny and playing stupid, how useful!

"While in Germany he claimed asylum using a false name, date of birth and falsely claiming he was a Palestinian."
"His actions and movements could well be mistaken for that of a terrorist..."

Gee, what leads someone to that conclusion?

"He was said to be moved by the plight of starving children in Africa and wanted to turn himself into a suicide bomber to draw attention to them."

Yup, works every time. Feed the starving children by blowing yourself (and a bunch of infidels) to smithereens.

"The first was that the detonator was missing from the grenade.."

I think we in the west have been very lucky so far that most of these terrorists wannabes have come from the far left side of the intelligence bell curve. I'm not sure how long this lucky streak will last.

OT

Sheik Al Qardawi talks about the Terri Schaivo case-

http://www.islamthreat.blogspot.com/

"He was said to be moved by the plight of starving children in Africa and wanted to turn himself into a suicide bomber to draw attention to them."

Where were those "starving children in Africa" that so concerned him? The main groups of starving children in Africa have been in the southern Sudan, where a deliberate campaign of ddestroying crops by the Muslim Arabs has caused hundreds of thousands of Christian and animist Dinka, Nuer, and other southern Sudanese to starve to death.

Or perhaps he was thinking of the Darfur Region, where 300,000 black Africans have been murdered, and millions forced to flee, while their cattle and their crops have been stolen or destroyed in an attempt to permanently starve them either to death, or into exile -- but never again to return to live in Darfur.

Or was he thinking of the famines that intermittently wrack Ethiopia, and which could be ended if the Ethiopians were able to divert the headwaters of the Nile, but are under constant threat and menace by the Arab Muslims of the government of Egypt, that constantly warns that the Nile belongs to Egypt, and the Ethiopians (with "Israeli help"the Egyptians like to say)had better not divert a drop of that Nile water without express Egyptian permission.

Where are those "starving children in Africa" that so concerned him he wanted to blow people up in England, using a grenade as his "microphone to the world"?

Is there no one, in the entire United Kingdom, capable of writing about this Hazil Rahaman-Alan truthfully, and in a way that makes sense to the poor, confused audience of Infidels? Is there no one to point out that what Muslims read, what they hear, what they say to each other, what pervades and suffuses their lives -- that is, what is written in Qur'an, Hadith, and Sira, the Word of God, and the Words and Deeds of Muhammad as the Model for All Mankind, do, in fact, have their effect?

Are not Infidels affected by what they read, and hear? Are not trillions of dollars spent on advertising in the Westen world because what is dinned into people, through advertisements, actually affects their behavior?

Why should it be any different with those surrounded by, swimming in, overwhelmed with, Qur'an, Hadith, and Sira?

Why?

#1 Islam does not police itself.

#2 Islam demands that no one else police it either.

Well, I have no problem with him being a suicide bomber to draw attention to the plight of starving children in Africa.

Let the UK provide him with an open field somewhere, put the cameras on him and watch as he blows himself up.

Then, discuss the plight of starving children in Africa.

Geoff

Actually, I suppose he could have few a few people who were really starving if he'd blown himself up THERE, for example.

Islam: the other other 'white meat'.

There is only one explanation for these muslim fanatics` murderous actions, and that is islam, their religion who incites them to kill infidels....
The western media and politicians, however, are not willing to aknowledge the obvious, and therefore they are trying to find all kinds of excuses, the latest one being mental illness, emotional distress, etc.
Fox news just announced that Hasan Akhbar`s lawyers will plead temporary insanity for the muslim seargent who tossed a grenade into his comrades quarters, killing a few of them.
We will probably see an increasing number of similar cases, all avoiding the islamic connection, but pleading insanity....are we to believe that all muslims are insane??!!

"The Arab is little more than eater-up of other mens' produce ; he is a destroyer rather than a creator" -- Francis Galton (Victorian explorer, geographer, inventor of fingerprint ID and general Renaissance man).

I have been pondering why violent jihad appeals to so many Western educated Muslims and I concluded that they ultimately find that they cannot believe in two philosophies at once.

Daily observance must surely demonstrate that our society is much healthier and successful than any Muslim society anywhere in the world, at any period in history. They know in their own hearts that 'clerics' preaching about green mists sent by Allah, and the USA being destroyed by victorious Islam in 2007 is all absolute hogwash.

They know in their own hearts that Islamic fanatics can never conquer the West. They are perhaps in a state of culture shock, like indigenous peoples who saw the superior weapons of the invading Europeans and knew they could never win. Islamic fanatics know they cannot win, so they kick and scream and threaten and destroy like the malignant infants they truly are.

That is a provocative and interesting remark. And so is the quote from Galton, who also investigated the Efficacy of Prayer.

And "culture shock" certainly applies to some Muslims in the West. But can it really be offered as a model, a theory, to fit all the data? What accounts for the ruthlessness with which Muslims have killed black Africans in villages in the southern Sudan and elsewhere? The villagers -- not at first, obvious glance so glaringly more advanced -- who made up the 60-70 million Hindu victims of Muslim invaders?

Jihad is an important part of Islam. Islam is superior. Believers are the best people. They deserve to prevail. They desreve to conquer, to take the women, to share the loot. This is so much a part of Islam, that even those who avoid thinking overmuch about it, who do not really swallow it -- and there are some, but not nearly as many as non-Muslims seem to think -- are affected by the doctrine. Residual loyalties are there; the secret of Islam's malevolence is protected by those who do not practice it, or who practice it, but only in parts. Look at Shirin Ebadi, with her Nobel Prize for defending the rights of women, who repeats cliches about America and Israel, and insists, despite all the evidence and what she must kknow, that Islam is blameless, Islam has nothing to do with it, Islam is good. Fatimia Mernissi and Leila Ahmed are on the same backtacking course. Did any Muslims, anywhere in the world, anyone in MESA Nostra, for example, full of highly successful and well-paid Muslims, ever complain about such travesties as the bowdlerized Qur'an of Michael Sells? Do you know of any Muslim truth-tellers among all those living in the West -- or are all the truth-tellers who started as Muslims now defectors from Islam, ex-Muslims?

You are surely on to an important point, however. That is, the encounter of Muslims with the West does not lead, as some Western policymakers seem to think, to a modificationof beliefs, but often to a hysterical re-assertion or deepening of them.

But Jihad would exist, and Muslim attitudes be the same, if the Western world were poor and primitive and unsure of itself, and not the obvious success, compared to Islam, that it seems to us, in that Infidel West, and whatever its many faults, to be. They would wish to spread Islam, and to conquer the lands take the property of the Infidels -- and there is open discussion among Muslims in Europe about how one day they will inherit, through overbreeding, all of Europe (and you think there isn't a chance; that the right side will prevail -- I think that if things continue as they are, there is a good chance. All sorts of disasters have happened in the past -- look at the last, unappetizing century).

When graduate students in this country suffer anxieties, depression, loss of interest, fear of careerism, as so many do, they have various ways of explaining to themselves why this happens. But when Muslims like Mohammad Atta go off to the West, and then encounter not exactly defeat, but loss of status, and perhaps the inability to cope, they can quickly find solace in Islam, and more Islam. And so can anyone who is a Believer, however lukewarm or unobservant he may be.

It is the doctrine, the texts, the words that are there. They fill the mind, and mold thoughts and attitudes. Few who grow up as Muslims remain unaffected by the attitudes and the atmospherics. Embarrassment at the contrast between the advanced West and the backward East is exhibited. And Muslim leaders, such as Mahathir Mohamed (former President of Malaysia) talk about remedying the "backwardness" of Islam. But they never blame Islam. They never give up on Islam. And they always stress when they talk about remedying the situation about, above all, the need to catch up to the West, not in art or science, but in military technology.

And we all know why that is the priority.
