Taliban to Vatican! Taliban to Vatican!

"Taleban: Pope's Words 'Worth Considering'," from VOA News, with thanks to Romy:

Leaders of the Taleban insurgency in Afghanistan sent a message from their hiding place on Sunday, calling on Pope John Paul's successor to use his influence to stop what the Taleban called the persecution of Muslims.

A Taleban spokesman told Reuters news agency the insurgency felt neither grief nor joy over the pope's death, but believed some the pontiff's message of peace and harmony was worth considering. The spokesman also said many of the pope's followers want peace, but many others are still committing excesses against Muslims.

In his New Years Day sermon in 2002, Pope John Paul spoke out
against killing in the name of God, saying only forgiveness can quench the thirst for revenge.
...

"Hmmm. Peace and harmony...worth considering...or should we just continue with the blood and mayhem? What do you think, Omar?"

'many others are still committing excesses against Muslims.'

Yes we are!

We Exist. That's got to be making life difficult for a lot of them.

And what about past and present excesses against non-Muslims by Muslims????

Non-Muslims don't count and are held in contempt and shown disdain because Muslims hate them for their disbelief and will cease to struggle to eliminate them through death or "reversion".

I dont know why we would need to have a converstion.
They think they must rule.
We disagree.
They are not going to change the Quran and we are going to get weaken kneed and start crying for peace ,or are we?

It is mandated for them to HATE us.

Poor Muslims, how dare anyway oppress and persecute them by interferring with the Jihad, how dare they interfere with "Allah's" mandate to subjugate and rule the world.

I fully expect the Church and the new Pope to fully accomodate the Muslims though. The Church (Catholic and Orthodox)has a long experience with dhimmitude, in fact they got it down pat. Like Bat Ye'or says a piece of the pie is better than nothing at all.

What we've been witnessing is, in the words of Bat Ye'or, "The Islamization of Christianity", especially with the Pope kissing the Qur'an, his acquiescent speeches to Muslim audiences, his acquience to the Syrian Dictator, kissing Palestinian soil held out by Arafat, and the change in mass to the "unity of god" from "in the name of the father, son and holy ghost" (thus caving in to Muslim claims that trinitarians are polytheists (shrirk).

Are the Taleban proposing to send Mullah Omar as
advisor to the next Pope! What an interesting Interfaith Dialogue that will be... Of course Islam allows the Taleban to keep on killing Infidels while demanding Muslims ARE NOT TO BE PERSECUTED. Gee, a bit one sided doncha think??
Let's hope the next Pope has the intelligience to notice as think John Paul was definitely on the senility slide before his death and ought to have retired years ago instead of clinging on to power.
Same 'Great Man' wanted to be an actor before finding Religion - well he's certainly got the biggest audience ever!! By the way, same loving devout Pope BLESSED remains of notorious Ustashe
Archbishop in Croatia ...God certainly moves in mysterious ways.

The Catholic Church Body may decide to become dhimmi's for islam, but the Christian Church Body never will. islam Cannot and will never deceive the Elect.

Matthew 24.

muslims Claim that the Bible foretold of the coming of 'mohammed'. Yes, it is foretold. In Matthew 24 (false prophets). Look it up :o)

Let's hope the next Bishop of Rome quotes Christ and replies:

"Vade Retro Satanas!"
(Get thee behind me, Satan.)

All the answer these lying maniacs require.

Just_Linda,

I completely respect your point of view, but you must remember that the New Testament verse that you quote is only possible because the Catholic Church preserved and made it the Bible of which you now follow.

As much as a Protestant may protest, the only recourse he/she has to legitimacy has been dictated many, many centuries before by the Church and men of Rome.

All Protestant sects are an offshoot of the Catholic Church whether you want to believe that or not.

Skeeter: Yes, you are correct. I was raised Lutheran and followed the Chatecism and all of the rituals of the Church. My family was originally Catholic until my great grandpa was ex communicated from the Church because he was a Mason. It was at that point that our family became PROTESTant, circa 1942.

I do have respect for Catholicism, but still have issues with the worship of the Saints, communion at the age of 7 (before one understands the meaning of the taking of the Sacrament), the wearing of robes and adornments and elevating oneself above others when we are all only men on this Earth; calling someone (priest) "father" and confessing sins to a man vs. God, as if a human has the power to forgive sins; and many other various ritualistic principles that Christ eliminated. I've been to mass and will always respect the Catholic religion so please don't take me the wrong way.

I have a deep respect for John Paul II. I was a kid (10) when he was installed to that post. I do not worship men, women, or statues. I would not kiss a ring. I CERTAINLY would never kiss a koran. He is/was a Man that served a purpose for humanity and for the Church; a great man that accomplished much and I'm certain that when he died, the Lord welcomed him with the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant".

Christians follow Christ; we read His words, and we follow His example. We eliminate all the pomp and circumstance and rituals, and we focus on the Lord. No fancy dresses, no big robes or hats; we can even have Church without an altar; when 2 or more are gathered in His Name, there's the Church. Pretty simple.

As for islam, I'm certain that both the Catholic and the Christian Church recognize islam for what it is, and hopefully the next Pope will reject this totalitarian ideology/cult and will NOT kiss a filthy koran.

Kindest regards,
Linda

Linda, Catholics don't really 'worship' the saints per se, do they? I mean, they can talk to them in prayer and all...

Geoff

Skeet Street...

As a Protestant, I get my 'legitimacy' from the same source that a Pope does, Jesus Christ.
I get my 'legitimacy' from the same source that the Church of Rome does, Jesus Christ. I get my 'legitimacy' from the same source that the men of Rome do, Jesus Christ.

The Church of Rome - for Protestants - would be part of our proveniece, but not part of our 'legitimacy'.

I think that word is closer to what you meant to say. Legitimacy is close but not quite as precise as proveniece. And I am not sure that even provenience is precise enough. It is as precise as I can get.

Certainly all Protestant sects flow out of our universal Catholic Tradition. Who ever said otherwise?

Imagine all of the different flags that identify the different Churchs and sects and saints and Christian countries of the Body of Christ. Now given this ancient war with Islam, I say "Forward the Colours"!

Just_Linda and SCV -

Sorry for not being more clear with my use of the word, "legitimacy". What I meant by the term is the Protestant's reliance on Holy Scripture proves "legitimate" only because the Catholic Church's preservation of these texts makes it so.

But that is another discussion going on somewhere else in cyberspace. I apologize for the digression.

Skeet Street: Armenians, Copts, Greeks, Syrians, and other who weren't in communion with Rome also preserved the Scriptures. As for the OT, the Jews preserved it very well without Papal supervision.
