"Students want Bibles in rooms ban," from the BBC, with thanks to Dr JDJ:
A students' association has called for the Bible to be removed from more than 2,000 university rooms because it could offend non-Christians.Stirling University Students' Association (SUSA) wants the Gideons Bibles taken out of all student rooms.
Students said providing the Bible in all university accommodation was "presumptuous" and offensive to different religions on the campus.
The university would not comment until SUSA submits its request next month.
'Great diversity'
A motion to have the Bibles removed was passed by 15-1 at a recent student council meeting. Seven members abstained. The council said representing one faith was not in the spirit of equality and cited the Scottish Executive's One Scotland Many Cultures campaign.
SUSA president Al Wilson said: "The one thing that students have brought up is the fact that they do have Gideon's Bibles in their rooms.
"They felt that this was not really fair on those students who practice other faiths.
"And it was promoting one faith over others....
SUSA wants other faith texts provided to create a campus of "great diversity"....
The Reverend John Munro, of Kinross Parish Church, said: "I think there is an agenda here, seemingly politically correct. There is actually a hostility towards faith by those who have none.
"This is repeating the worst of our errors, where the Christian faith used to have an intolerant attitude towards people of no faith."
I thiK its wild that Islam pulls out the we honor the prophets, we are tolerent ,without enough evidence to convict them of of either ,bullying as they play victim .
And all along the real victims bend over and fall for it because they have no idea what they are really dealing with .ANd are far to lazy or busy to find out .
because they are promosed their is no threat.
SOmeone is lying
As the old saying goes: What's good for the goose, is good for the gander. So- I think it should be across the board separation of church and state. All religious activities should be ban from campus. PERIOD. Yes, I'm a Christian. But hey, if I cant have a Bible in my dorm room, neither can anyone else have their religious propaganda in theirs.
When I was at uni in Britain I always probed for republicanism amongst the students. Most disliked but were ultimately apathetic about the monarchy. These same people were almost uniformly irreligious but intent on defending Muslims against 'racism' even in pre-11 September Britain.
Now they remove Bibles without questioning why state universities (which all but one in Britain are) granted access to a proselytising group like the Gideons. The answer of course is the Monarchy with its god-given status and the ancillary existing of a state church, in this case Christian.
European countries with monarchies will always have the hardest times constructing a consistent legal and more importantly socio-psychological defence aginst Islam. They have no seperation of church and state at their fundamental level. Not surprisingly the situation in the UK, Benelux, and Scandinavia is much worse than France and Germany.
Take an Indian Sahibs advice Europe, dump the monarchies for a secular republic. You can only survive my moving forward.
Lanier,
Human beings natural expression of and dependence on their "God" or their "Faith" can not be removed from any area of life, including education, without removing the human beings themselves. You can not stop hunger by outlawing food as being possibly offensive to people with eating disorders!
The basic human drive to acknowledge a God will not be stopped, the best you can hope for is an agreement to peacefully coexist.
If there is an organization willing and able to distribute other "books" then let them do that. Instead of just the Bible let there be the Bible and the Quran, the Vedas or what ever book a religion considers representative of their faith.
Atheists can object to "God" but they haven't got a snowballs chance in hell of removing Him from the lives of billions of people because they are offended. The best they can do is look the other way, just like the person with the eating disorder should steer clear of the cafeteria.
The National Union of Students, and all of its constituent organizations, has long been infiltrated by those who, for quite different reasons than Islam, promote an Islamic agenda, and wrongly view Islam as an appropriate vehicle for expressing their own alienation from Western society. They are wrong. What they are doing, even when they seem to support an innocent request, is to soften up British society for Islam, just as an Islamintern International has softed up the United Nations.
Jack Straw is a former president of the N.U.S. In comparison to its present membership, Straw now seems a veritable Palmerston.
Please- put Korans in the drawer right next to the Bibles!
But make sure it is the older Penguin edition or an earlier non-p.c. translation.
Let the students GET EDUCATED to the religion of the pedophile prophet.
And throw in copies of the Hindu, Buddhist, Socratic, Gnostic and whatever other 'scripture' is represented by enough adherents at the schools.
Let's promote knowledge.
Let them ALL be read.
Then the sayings of each teacher can be weighed against the other.
Otherwise they are cutting off their heads to please their knees.
The Buddha and Christ and Krishna and Bahu Bali of the Jains and Socrates and Micah and Ecclesiastes are going to start looking a hell of a lot better than the prophet of war and robbery and intolerance toward other faiths and dogmatic contempt for women (those silly half-humans).
Let's get those drawers packed full of faiths!
Maybe then the students will be too busy reading to have time for this kind of fey fiddling while their civilization burns.
'And throw in copies of the Hindu, Buddhist, Socratic, Gnostic and whatever other 'scripture' is represented by enough adherents at the schools.' ~ BigSleep
BG, that's an idea, but perhaps in a different venue- Libraries.
CAIR likes to put together packets of books about islam for the libraries, this would make a good counter- find the best explanation, so to speak, best version of each faith, package those books together as a Comparitive Faiths package for the libraries. Like you say, make sure a Non-pc versio of the Koran is included. Maybe even the Mabinogion and a few others...
A little more evidence that "diversity" where religion is concerned means suppressing Christianity, just like it means penalizing people for being Caucasian where race is concerned.

Wouldnt it be nice if the people who scream the loudest about being offended about a book such as the Bible, could be as rational as you. Imagine the size of the drawer if every religion could place their book of worship there. The size of a library. I'm not saying that one should remove the right to pray to your God of choice. That can never be taken away. However, to remove one book and replace it with another, isnt the answer either. IMHO.
Many here seem to dsiplay the same persecution complex as Muslims.
Removing Christian Bibles, which should never have been distributed in the first place, is not suppressing your religion only creating a proper secular environment for rational scholarship. Most of the Islamic scholars derided here at JW are blinded by their irrational faith. It has no place in academia. Nor then does Christian proselytising.
I have yet to see a 'persecuted Christian' explain how removing these Bibles will impact the ability of students to seek out Christianity. There is still a library, chapel, etc. at their disposal.
I graduated from a UK uni, trust me there are more Christian student groups at your avergae uni than I ever thought possible in so irreligious a country.
I'm sure that individual students who stay in the rooms can remove them if they are offended. But removing them is a form of censorship of ideas. Is the Bible now to be contraband? Ridiculous.
"Censorship of ideas" my ****. Ever heard of an "appropriate forum"? If some religious nut politician decided to start prosyletizing during a session of parliament and he was rightly shut down, would that be a "censorship of ideas"? Clearly not. Neither is removing bibles that shouldn't have been there in the first place. If some student wants a bible, I have no problem with him being supplied one, but it is indeed presumptuous to assume everyone would want one. The kind of presumptuousness one would expect in theocratic Saudi Arabia, not in secular Britain. It's pesky double-standards like these that make it hard to advance the anti-Islam cause.
First of all I always thought it was quaint having bibles placed in hotel rooms, etc. like this, but this is just part of a deeper malise, like spending £1.6m for a custom built mosque for terrorists held at Belmarsh.
As a Brit living in France I have often suggested that the French while wimps on the International stage, really mean business when it comes to their home turf. While the British do what is necessary Internationally but have already lost themselves at home.
I am glad to see that Danel Pipes sees it the same way:
http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/298
All the British people I talk too are really fed up with Islam and Muslims, they are extremely angry, but they do not know what to do, because anyone who says anything is attacked as a racist, or Islamphobia thrown at them.
At this point I am glad that I live in France, which at least seems to have a gameplan to protect its secular state. Notice the recent strong action in Germany too, this is exactly what I have been hoping for.
As for Britain, I respect my people for standing up internationally, but I am ashamed to be British when I see us just bend over backwards for the Islamofascists, have we Brits got no shame at allowing these fascists to control us or have we lost our backbone, or perhaps can see no way to deal with this with in the system, be it our own laws and those imposed from Brussels.
The people just focus on the day to day earning of money and having a good time, they can't see that this is now at serious risk with the rise of Islamofascism.
I know that the anger is there, but will the British continue to be sheep? My feeling is yes, it has gone too far, the Britain I left is no more, it is a land full of slaves, partying while they can and waiting to be lead to Allah's paradise, or as sheep to the slaughterhouse.
I never thought that I would be ashamed to be British, but I am now. I am going there on business soon, it is no longer my country, it is a foriegn place to me and that is how I will treat it.
No, in my heart I am not ashamed to be British, just very frustrated at this once great people letting these backward bigotted fascists walk all over them, Churchill recognized the Islamic world for what it is, the problem is that lesser men run the country.
Hello Daffersd
I thought you sounded more frustrated and angry than anything. Something about lions led by donkeys springs to mind
I think my own gloom this morning is the effect of 3 weeks of laryngitis, rather than anything specific in the news (new pope so the end of the world is nigh etc). I think I shall take my trusty old Gideon bible, presented to me at school aged 12 and find a good cheerful psalm to read. 68 should do:- earth trembled, the very heavens quaked ... before God the God of Israel.
Getting back to your post my husband, who has had more contact with the French than I have, has a similar respect to your own regarding their home policies. Do you think this will be enough to counteract the sheer numbers (and rising) of Moslems in France?
Granny Weathermax,
I am sorry to hear you were ill with layngitis, hope it improves.
Frustrated at seeing what was a decent and caring civilisation in the Western world being corrupted by Islam. I like the Lions lead by Donkeys bit, its certainly true.
I know some ex-Muslims in France, personally I think that the ex-French North African element are somewhat more advanaced in Western terms as compared to Pakistani's living in the UK, also the intellectuals who fled the Middle East are also here, so I would suggest that they are more intelligent and further along the road towards secular thinking.
French Authorities are prepared to defend the secular state, they deport any extreme imams, we should not forget the head scarf ban and of course joy of joy we had a Mosque in financial trouble because the French authorities had blocked the terrorist funding that was paying its bills.
There are problems here, no-go areas for normal people and the police, secular Muslim girls gang raped, one set on fire, others ending up with smileys (horrible that), but in all I would suggest that a large segment of the immigrant population is secular and growing.
If you could see some of these Muslim youths though, uuugggghhh they are truely disgusting human beings, filthy ignorant and arrogant, horrible..., actually I doubt they are even human?
Granny:
For the laryngitis, try steeping some fenugreek seeds in boiling water and drink the tea, several times a day. Fairly pleasant tasting and I have found it a great relief for a raspy throat.

Do you remember Dad's army? And Corporal Jones' tales about the Mad Mahdi? (they don't like it up 'em)
Take a look at these characters from my post on the "Allah is the only legislator; there is no law but his" story yesterday.

Thank you for the remedy for the sore throat, I will try it. I started drinking hot ribena, then found that honey and lemon was better. That is very kind of you.
I certainly do remember Dads Army, they don't like cold steel up them!! Bit over the top, and he called them fuddy duddies, I bet that would not pass the PC test in the UK now.
It was actually rather comical wasn't it, one group giving guidance on voting on the basis of Muslim beliefs, (haven't their flocks got a brain to decide for themsleves) and the other insisting that they are apostle if they vote.
