Abdoul Masmoud Yessoufou, 37, whose address was given at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Wednesday as East Street, Newport, admitted entering a prohibited area at Portsmouth Docks.The court was told that Yessoufou was found on the USS Harry S. Truman at the weekend after he strolled past guards and hitched a ride out to the carrier on a boat used by sailors on runs ashore.
Yessoufou had previously appeared before Uxbridge Magistrates three times this year for entering restricted zones at Heathrow. He also reached the side of an aircraft at Southampton Airport in January.
What was he trying to do?
He was trying to intimidate us by showing just how easy it would be to plant a bomb. He was trying to cause panic and generate terror through psychology.
The U.S.S. Cole is only an Aegis cruiser. I'm sure al Qaeda would love to take down a nuclear aircraft carrier. That would seriously cripple U.S. power-projection, possibly kill thousands, and make quite a 'statement' to potential jihad-shahid recruits.
Heathrow is pretty obvious, just another 9/11ish attack.
I'm sure the results in Iraq (car bombing kills five Iraqis, three kids - or whatever) aren't great selling points for fence-sitters like Shukri. They are looking for a big score with hundreds or thousands of dead and injured.

If he isn't working for MI6 or the ONI as a way to test security, then it is clear what he IS.
What is unclear is why the guards let him "stroll past". One would hope that, after this, things have been tightened up and the proper members in the chain of command have been seriously disciplined.
Why the people on the shuttle boat didn't recognize a stranger with no proper credentials and then just attach an anchor to him and let him "hitchike" to the bottom of the harbour, I can't fathom.
After the U.S.S. Cole, you'd think the Navy might want to avoid more needless deaths through incompetent security measures.

This appears to be some kind of "dry run" test. If so, Mr. Yessoufou succeeded.
It is many years since I went to the Isle of Wight, although we always had our annual holiday there when I was a child. I suspect that he would have much more trouble trying to bunk his fare home to the Island on the Wightlink line than he seems to have done getting access to this warship. I assume that the USS Harry S Truman and the Lady Pamela look rather different?

The more of this sort of thing I read about, the more I am convinced that it will ultimately be up the the people, not our Protectors in the government, to do for ourselves what they refuse to do.
I truly believe that the Minuteman Project is on the leading edge of that sort of sentiment; the fact that the President has called these law-abiding citizens who are exercising their Constitutionally guaranteed rights "vigilantes" is an indicator of things to come.
How in the world did this guy get on the ship? There is an officer or more at the top of any entry ladder or ramp, every enterer is required to salute the officer and ask permisson to board and if military, they also salute the American flag on the stern. If not all that, they still have to show ID and get permission to board. You cant just "wander" onto an American warship unless everyone is asleep. If that actually happened , it's disturbing...

What's wrong with this picture? The story doesn't say that this troll actually BOARDED the carrier. It says that he hitched a ride OUT to the carrier. The brief headline begs the question, "what was he trying to do? Stowaway on board a US carrier." The story should have provided more information as to when, where, and how he was apprehended. duh_swami is right, one does not just stroll aboard a U.S. warship. Especially a nuclear carrier.
