U.S. Frees 17 Afghans, 1 Turk from Guantanamo Jail

From Reuters, with thanks to Mediawatch:

WASHINGTON - The United States has sent home 17 Guantanamo prisoners to Afghanistan and another to Turkey, and some of the Afghans said upon arrival in Kabul on Tuesday they had been mistreated by their American jailers.

"They used extreme type of tyranny against us," said Abdul Rahman, who appeared to be in his mid-30s and was among three men allowed to speak to reporters after being handed over to Afghan
authorities.

Alas, the poor wretched fellow! Extreme tyranny, no less! I wonder what that means? Were they restricted from attacking the guards? Maybe they were oppressed by having to eat three times a day and pray five? Maybe they suffered the extreme tyranny of being given a Qur'an to read but not being able to fight jihad? What could have been more frustrating?

Some said they had been in detention since the 2001 fall of Afghanistan's former Taliban rulers in a U.S.-led invasion.

The 18 who were released in the largest single exodus from the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, since last September were among 38 detainees who the Pentagon had decided no longer were considered enemy combatants.

Maj. Michael Shavers, a Pentagon spokesman, said another 15 detainees who also no longer were classified as enemy combatants remained at Guantanamo awaiting transfer to their home countries. Five others previously were released.

The United States still holds approximately 520 prisoners at Guantanamo after freeing 167 to their home countries and sending 65 more to their home governments for continued detention, the Pentagon said. Many detainees have been held for more than three years.

Human rights activists have accused the United States of condemning Guantanamo prisoners to indefinite detention in a "legal black hole," and note that some former detainees have said they were tortured by U.S. personnel at the base...

Torture allegations, of course, are right out of the Al-Qaeda playbook.

May Almighty Allah Bless these innocent Brothers that are free from concentration camp and now we have first hand evidence of your atrocities against our Brothers.

They should all be crow-bait. Unlawful combatants may be executed upon capture; we should have been doing that from day one.

My bet is that one or more of these "Brothers" are captured in Iraq or Afghanistan after taking part in terrorist attacks, in the next year.

Poor babies.......

You know that all were brainwashed and reprogrammed to be spies for the US.

Maybe they didn't like the Gitmo recreation activities.

"'They used extreme type of tyranny against us,' said Abdul Rahman, who appeared to be in his mid-30s and was among three men allowed to speak to reporters after being handed over to Afghan

That should have made them feel like they were right back in their [Taliban] homes.

Your statement does not reduce the fact that prisoner abuse by those under the US governing Administration has been widespread and well documented.

Why not focus on the truth, instead of half-truths that seek to do away with legitimate criticism of the "good guys" all the while continuing your apparent quest to demonize Islam and Muslims?

But my dear Shukri -- the latter is the course you take all the time.

Truth, rather than half-truth?

Of course. You might thus define to me how being paraded around naked or being made to wear panties on their heads is somehow "torture" in the Western sense. Of course, the entire activities of Abu Graib - post-liberation, of course =) - could be condensed down into one exceptionally vigorous "kegger" weekend at a frat house, frankly. Compared of course to other definitions of torture, I would call this at best, "half-torture".

Half-truths and half-torture. Seems quite equivalent, eh Shurki?

Wait, I take that back. Abu Graib, qualifies, at best as no torture at all. Good god, panties. Eww! Cooties! Cooties!

Hey, Mahmoud, you belligerent punk troll - tell us all what "atrocities" there have been, except by islamic terrorists? Idiot. Nice choice of words, though, loser. Bet they score big political points with the extremely stupid.

Dolt.

Geoff

I like too the allegation of "extreme type of tyranny against us". That's a laugher.

Propaganda, as Goebbels could have told anyone, is all about big, nebulous statements that don't have any proof, or any standards.

The big lie works best, and Allah knows best. ;)

Robert Crawford-

My sentiments exactly!

What part of "unlawful combatants" do our leaders not understand.

People caught without unforms, ID, and no state affilation (and never signed the Geneva Conventions, of course) are considered terrorists and saboteurs -and can be shot upon capture (once squeezed for any vital info).

They should never have wasted the jet fuel to fly them to a nice vacation the Caribbean, but simply lined them up (after debriefing) and sent them on their way to Paradise.

Now we will have to hear their p.r./ p.c. / b.s. trumpeted on pro-terrorist news channels and on global jihadist websites.

And then we will lose more Western lives when they get their weapons back.

Bush... are you wacked?

WTF is going on in our "leaders'" brains?

Shukri, what would happen to 520 American prisoners if they were held by Zarqawi or any muslim fighter? I'll tell you... they would be beheaded on video. They would not be allowed to live to go to their home country.

These killer zombies are quite lucky we let them live. It in fact goes against the safety of the non-Muslim world that we did. Not, in hindsight, an especially intelligent move.

But naturally they will never appreciate being alive when they can use their lives to lob warfare at the infidel great satan...

Dear Shukri-

There is truth to the allegation that the US has abused Islamic detainees.
However, there is absolutely NO truth to your allegation that Americans are 'demonizing' Islam.

Islam has demonized itself on the world stage better than America ever could have hoped to. The history of horrors perpetrated by Islam is truly extraordinary and did not begin on 9-11. 9-11-2001 was merely the tip of the iceberg of the bottomless pit of tragedies that have been caused by your so-called 'religion.'

No one in India, for example, or Greece, Yugoslavia, or southern Sudan is going to take your side. You see, these nations have all been attacked by the sword of Islam without provovation, without remorse, and without reason. Hundreds of millions of citizens in these lands watched helplessly as Middle Easterners under the erroneous belief they brought 'God's religion' with them and subsequently proceeded to slaughter unprecedentedly vast numbers of human beings in order to 'spread islam.' In India, more than 90 million Hindus alone were massacred as a result of the Islamic invasions following the 7th century. Tens of millions of Buddhists, Gypsies, Zoroastrians, Jews, and Christians were likewise murdered in the subcontinent as a result of these invasions. This is American propaganda, you say? Ask the people of these countries. Hell, they don't even LIKE America, and the last thing that they would consider doing is lie to benefit the United States. The countries that have experienced the sword of Islam are today's legacy of Islam's cold-blooded and savage history. No one in these nations--or the United States--is going to forgive Islam for its assault on human life. Not now. Not ever.

I'm saying it: Islam has cold-blooded savagery built into its ideological foundation. And you know it. And you can't get it out, not by demagoguery, not by sneaky lies. What you are doing on this site is attempting to whitewash Islam by convincing us with specious arguments that acts of mass murder such as 9-11 are not reflective of the 'real' Islam. But in fact what happened on 9-11 is not only the 'real' Islam it is in fact the ONLY Islam. You can justify Islam's acts of murder throughout history any way you want--the trouble is you have absolutely NO WAY of knowing whether or not any Islamic teachings are legitimate true as you cannot authenticate the validity of your source (Muhammed) nor can you provide physical proof of Islamic teaching' valdity. Tee Qur'an states the earth is flat. But is it? NO! Can you show us a talking tree or rock (that will turn in the Jews to the Muslims)? No--they're not out there.

No one in America is going to waste their time inventing fabrications about Islam, they actually couldn't care less about your wretched 'faith.' But there is no need for Americans to fabricate a faslely violent image of Islam.

History does not lie. Survivors of Islam's history of genocidal holy wars don't lie either. But Islam does.

Yeah Mahmud:

Your 'innocent' brothers should have been roasted right then and there. Setting them free merely helps your Islamic propaganda.

But they will show up on the battlefield again sooner or later and usually exported to Mohammeds bordello the second time they show up.
It is unfortunate that we don't have a policy to execute terrorists 'wherever we find them'... But stick around, we might start writing our own (the Infidel version) of the Koran...

Mr. Spencer-

Thanks for the link to the captured Al-Qaeda training manual.

Page 9 has an interesting paragraph, sandwiched in between Koranic quotes, Restored Caliphate fantasies and standard worries about (odd) infidel influences -like The Rotary and Lion's Clubs in Egypt.

It reads:

"The confrontation that Islam calls for with the... godless... does not know Socratic debates, Platonic ideals nor Aristotelian diplomacy. But it knows the dialogue of bullets, the ideals of assassination, bombing and destruction, and the diplomacy of the cannon and machine gun."

Finally, honest Muslims!

Educated in the West, to destroy the West.

Vultures coming to roost on the nodding heads of the moral relativists.

This quote should be plastered on the sides of buses and trains throughout Europe.

Or would that be impolitic?
