From AP, "200 held after attacks in Cairo"
CAIRO, Egypt -- Police on Sunday detained about 200 people from the home villages of the three attackers responsible for a bomb blast and tour bus shooting near Cairo tourist sites the day before, authorities said.The records of the detainees, from the villages of al-Ammar and Ezbet al-Gabalawi north of Cairo, are being examined for any connections with local terror networks, police said.
On Saturday afternoon, a man identified as a suspect in an April 7 bombing blew himself up as he leapt off a bridge during a police chase, officials said.
Less than two hours later, two veiled women -- reportedly the man's sister and fiancee -- attacked a tour bus. Egyptian police officials and the government-guided Al-Ahram newspaper said the bus was carrying Israeli tourists.
Nine people, four of them foreigners, were wounded in the apparent revival of violence against Egypt's vital tourism industry.
...police earlier in the day captured two suspects -- Ashraf Saeed Youssef and Gamal Ahmed Abdel Aal -- in connection with that attack and were chasing a third, Ehab Yousri Yassin, on a highway overpass when he jumped off, setting off the nail-filled bomb.
The explosion in the center of Cairo, near the Egyptian Museum, included three Egyptians, an Israeli couple, a Swedish man and an Italian woman.
The two women who carried out the later shooting attack near the prominent historic Citadel site were identified as Negat Yassin, the bomber's sister, and Iman Ibrahim Khamis, his fiancee, both in their 20s.
After firing on the tour bus, Negat Yassin then shot and wounded her companion before killing herself. Khamis died later of her wounds. Officials said they acted in revenge for Yassin's death...
That tears it. I'm cancelling this year's vacation tour of third-world dumps. 'Guess I'll just stay home.

Some museum must have a copy of the 19th century cartoon of two berobed skeletons laughing, holding little round bombs in their hands, saying to each other, above the caption ANARCHY: "First we'll kill everyone else--and then we can kill each other!"

How stupid and naive do you have to be to travel to Egypt AFTER 9/11?! But even before 9/11, why go there? It IS a third world dump, it's full of savage, backward Arabs, and it's always been considered more jihadist than Saudi Arabia! Westerners who go there deserve whatever happens to them. It'a called Natural Selection.

Maybe you haven't read, but in the U.S. many schools are trying to remove the teaching of such anti-fundamentalist theories as "Natural Selection" (and that damned Darwin!) from their curriculum?
Maybe this explains the influx of tourists?

Egypt is is the bed linen of the cradel of civilisation and this is what happens there. I feel it unfair that it has been called a "third world dump". It is a beautiful country with beautiful people. The killers are a minority. It is not long ago that our most famous product, in Ireland, was terrorism. Let us not paint all Arabs with the one brush. Please.

AS much as I'd like to see the sphinx, pyramids and St. Catherine's (?) monastery near the site where Moses received the 10 Commandments, if I ever find the $$$ to go to Egypt I think I'd rather give the $$$ to a Coptic (Egypt's original inhabitants) Christian charity instead.
