ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — Ethiopia's prime minister warned on Thursday of the danger posed by a "very active al-Qaida cell" in Somalia's capital and said a stable government is the best way to eliminate the terrorist threat in the chaotic Horn of Africa country.Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, in an interview with The Associated Press days ahead of an election in which he is seeking a third consecutive term, said his government supported the Somali transitional government formed in neighboring Kenya last year and would do everything possible to help it take power and eliminate the terrorist threat.
"Wherever there is distress, wherever there is acute poverty, social dislocation, the potential for a terrorist state exists," Meles said. "We have a very active terrorist cell in Mogadishu, which has been involved in terrorist activities in Kenya."...
Sure, Meles, it was poverty and "social dislocation" that blew up our Embassy in Kenya, right.
This is a wonderful example of why the United States should stop any and all immigration from Somalia. The Black Hawk Down incident should've been evidence enough of how these morons behave, but it wasn't.

Although this jihadi talks about the Somalis in Ethiopia (an area he tellingly calls West Somalia), a mere look at Somali immigrants in the West today indicates that the sympathy toward jihad, and the strict "adherence to Islamic rituals" is strong among any Somalis, anywhere, also in areas not (yet?) "protected by the Mujahideen" (with the notable exception of Ayaan Hirsi Ali, of course). Just how "moderate" could the people be who veil and wrap their little girls from toddler age so that they can hardly even walk?

I know for a fact that the move in and take over communities, as nepotism is a way of life. And they seem to carve up markets (domains) Iranians in one community, turks in another, Arabs in another, Palestinians in another, Egyptians in another, and Somali's in another.
A small, affluent bedroom community near Seattle hired a Turk (married to an American) as City Manager, within a couple of years all of his second tier subordinates (directors and consultants) are Turks. And he treats his middle managers like cattle, all responsibility, no authority and scapegoats them for his failures (right out of Raphael Patais' The Arab Mind).
I'll wager this is a recurrent theme throughout the US and sadly even now Iowa. (of all places).
The Ethiopian Orthadox Church is deeply influential in Ethiopian Culture. It is truely spiritual and their joy is not dependent on their perception of how they are treated by others. As Belisarius and Glaur have pointed out, this is a perfect example of poverty not leading directly to terrorism.
There is, however, a significant Islamic population. They get along pretty good now. I have lived in Ethiopia and if the cultural balance moves towards Islamization, the world will have lost something of great importance.
