AUSTRALIAN hostage Douglas Wood faces execution at 2.20am on Tuesday, if Australia does not start withdrawing troops from Iraq.Early yesterday, Islamic insurgents issued a 72-hour deadline for the withdrawal of Australian troops as disturbing new pictures emerged of a bruised and beaten Mr Wood.
A fresh video of Mr Wood was broadcast on Arab television network al Jazeera yesterday, shortly after 2am Melbourne time.
It shows Mr Wood with a black eye and shaved head.
He is clearly terrified as he sits, holding his identification papers, under the guns of two insurgents.
Al Jazeera said the tape shows Mr Wood saying Australia had 72 hours to withdraw its troops from Iraq.
There has been no indication what would happen if the demands were not met.
The network said the tape had been released by the Shura Council of the Mujahedeen of Iraq...
I must be missing something here,we all know these thugs are gutless blood-thirsty followers of "Muhammed The Pedophile" and all the other

I'd like to hope that he might be let go, but there's no chance of that at all. Allah's 'warriors' are not noted for mercy. Another murder for - what?

Its easy to say that now, we would all feel different if we were in his shoes now. It is really sad and heartbreaking stuff.
I was just wondering why people even broadcast this sort of stuff. The terrorists know the Aussies aren't going to leave. They knew the minute they captured him that he would die, so did that poor guy. The terrorists know that their message is reaching the World, it encourages more cases like this. If all these videos were suppressed there would be alot less kidnappings. Well that’s what I think.
I also think the publishing of these videos on the net is sad and heartless. Some people show no respect, imagine that was your father or relative being beheaded, would you want millions of people watching it. The people who supply these videos should be stopped from doing it.

I agree with you. When we see all the news reports that don’t show the reality, we hardly take notice. A car that a mad bomber used to blow himself up - big deal - we can see cars that look like that in the junk yards and think nothing of it. I have seen vehicles at the scene of terrible wrecks with people in them - total reality. I have read and seen the news reports of the crimes committed by these criminals and didn’t acquire the total concept of reality. Then I saw some of the videos of the murders and killings - total reality. I wonder what is the matter with the rest of the world. Why to they think they can babysit - negociate - give them concessions - give them equal rights - etc. They should be dealt with very harshly.

We are aware that a 'task force' has been sent to Iraq to try to secure Mr Woods release 'on many different levels' - you can bet that, translated, this means the SASR is on high alert and will swoop if credible intelligence comes to light. Of course, negotiations must *be seen* to be taking place, but we all know that logical discussion with these prehistoric neandethols is all but futile.
Oh, how difficult this situation must be for our Prime Minister John Howard. One cannot possibly 'back down' in the face of these animals, doing so would only encourage more of the same, yet the life of an innocent man hangs by a thread. What to do?

I watched a few beheading videos. The most gruesome display of Islam's inhumanity to man was the slow beheading of a poor Nepalese worker with a dull knife.
I think it hardened me to one of the brutal realities of life: fighting back and dying is not the worst thing which can happen to a person. I don't need or intend to watch any more Muslim snuff films.

Deathkne11 - As a fellow Australian I disagree (based on what I know). This man went to Iraq for financial gain. He was not there to help his fellow man/woman, nor was he military who has been captured. He was there to make money - he knew the risks.

I would rather see the SAS used to rescue Shappell Corby from Indonesia. She will be sentenced to a hell hole for life - despite the numerous holes in her case. She has openly admitted her Christianity in this crisis - something that will only infuriate her Muslim judges further. While she gets life - Abu Bakar Bashir (however you spell that low life clerics name) gets 4 days for each person blown up in Bali. Where is the justice?
The Australian Muslim community is getting involved in the Douglas Wood kidnapping, appealing to the kidnappers not to kill him - but I dont hold out much hope for his survival.

The Indonesian judges want to make a name for themselves by persecuting an innocent woman (while they let terrorist 'clerics' walk free)- they have made up their minds already. It demonstrates the depth and intelligence of Indonesian 'law' - if she had drugs in her bag, well, obviously it must belong to her, although there is a credible explanation, a man has risked his life coming forward to testify for her (he was stabbed in prison this week) and the idea of taking marijuana to Indonesia is like taking coals to Newcastle.
It looks as if a boycott of Indonesia is on the cards, with 70% of Australian travel agents agreeing not to publicise Bali as a tourist destination and Australians vowing never to set foot in the country again.
Lets see how they like coping without the infidel dollar.
DianaC - a boycott of Bali is sad - the Bali people (mainly Hindu I believe) are victims of both the Muslim Bali Bomb and the fallout of the Corby case.
Maybe if our government boycotted giving aid to Indonesia (after all, if they can afford to buy the best war planes in the world from Russia, what do they need our money for??) - that might make them think different about Corby, while the Balinese will continue to make money, and put food on their table.
DianaC - I do agree with your evaluation of the judges and their legal system. I thought ours left a lot to be desired of, but Corby's treatment is both arrorgant and disgusting. The Judges lack of professionalism is I believe, enough to warrent our government to at least speak up, possibly even take action. They treat our citizens this way, and then wonder why we won't sign a non agression pact with them!

Hi Geoff, Shappell Corby was a girl going on a happy holiday (like many Aussies) to Bali - HINDU Bali. When she was at the airport in Bali she was found with her boogie board bag full of weed. Hence she was arrested.
The judges in the case (I assume Islamic, but I could be wrong)have run a terrible case. They refused to have the bag fingerprinted. They ignored the debate that its not economically viable to transport weed to Indonesia (on pain of death), from Australia, only to get 1/3 of the price for it in Bali (as opposed to selling it in Australia, where you also get off with a slap on the wrists).
Apart from that, the Judges also ignored evidence about how Australia's airport security is a joke. During the case, back here in Australia, a bloke had a mascot of a horse in his bag. One of the baggage handlers opened his bag and put on the horse outfit, and literally started horsing around! He was seen galloping around on the tarmac, by the owner of the suit. The point - here in Australia anyone gets access to your luggage. The government says our airport security is A1 though!!!
Anyway, all of this was ignored by the court. Who knows why? Maybe because she's a political pawn, a woman in an Islamic country, an infidel who has reverted her Christian roots during this trying time (no atheists in foxholes right?) who knows?

I'm a bit disturbed about the attitude that "these people go to Iraq for financial gain, and they know the risk". It seems it's quite prevalent, even amongst people you talk to every day. Oh, they shrug their shoulders and sigh, they go there to make lots of money and they know it's dangerous, sigh! Yes, they go for financial gain, like anybody who takes employment. You don't work for free. These people go to Iraq for gainful employment, and yes, they earn lots of money. But look at the job, and the location. They're only being compensated for the work and the danger involved. Nobody would go to Iraq for minimum wage. So I don't understand this reasoning that because they get loads of cash, well, ho hum. They are there to do proper work, not to rip off people or set up pyramid schemes or some other scam. Work, to build the country's infrastructure so everyone can live a decent life.
This does not justify these disgusting, putrid murderers to saw anybody's heads off. They don't care about Iraq, or building, or anything positive. They want it to fall apart and go to hell, to make millions of people miserable. There is nothing benevolent about what they are doing. They are the only ones who deserve to be damned and condemned, not these hard-working people just trying to do their jobs.
I'm sorry for Mr. Woods. I feel for his family's pain. But this "donation" is nothing but money to fund this jihad sickness. The next car bomb that goes off, will be thanks to this "donation".
