Steven Stalinsky in FrontPage details jihad TV in America:
Rep. Steven Rothman, a Democrat of New Jersey, and Rep. Joe Knollenberg, a Republican of Michigan, yesterday sponsored a MEMRI briefing on Arab and Iranian satellite channels available in America. Their broadcasts have the potential to incite viewers to jihad and contain messages of hate against Jews and Christians. As the content of such programming is exposed, it is hopeful that the Federal Communications Commission - which answers directly to Congress and the mission of which includes regulating international television in America - would consider legal proceedings against American companies that air Arab and Iranian TV channels spewing hatred.Programs on these channels include statements clearly directed at Americans. During an official Friday sermon on August 27 aired on Sudanese TV, for example, a preacher stated that Jews engineered the attacks of September 11, 2001. He cited a quote fabricated by the Nazis and inaccurately attributed it to Benjamin Franklin: "The malaria microbe known as the Jews, which the U.S. carries in its stomach, will kill it sooner or later." He added, "These Jews hasten America's death. The U.S. must be aware. We offer this advice via the TV channels."
Similar Nazi falsehoods have resurfaced of late on other Arab and Iranian TV stations available in America, such as Al-Jazeera and Al-Manar. Tuning into those channels can be strikingly similar to watching Nazi propaganda. Programming includes shows devoted to distortions in Jewish religious texts, "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," Jewish corruption throughout history, and the blood libel. On a UAE/Saudi channel Al-Majd program of March 22, 2004, the secretary-general of the Islamic Action Front Party of Jordan, Sheikh Hamza Mansour described the "sick psychological nature" of the Jews, adding that they make "matzoth out of innocent children's blood."
Read it all.
Shukri? You say MEMRI has an agenda to put islam in a bad light... but can you show me state-sponsored television shows in the US, which say the same kind of hateful things against muslims, that your immams say on a Daily basis about the Jews on state-sponsored tv in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Somalia, virtually any other muslim nation?
Show me One. With a link, please, so those of us here can verify it.

Although (muslim Dearborn) Rep. John Conyers of MI would like us all to shut up about the Islamic threat, this points out the sort indoctrination accessible to the insular islamic communities in the U.S. In Conyers' world everyone just gets along but is it possible for "infidels" to have any trust or friendship with people who listen to and accept such vile lies? I think not.
Good and as soon as one racist remark is found the adl or wjc can sue the crap out of the channel, and echostar.
Hey, folks,
On a related story, please go to Cybercast News Service (http://www.cnsnews.com//ViewPrint.asp?Page=\Nation\archine\200505\NAT20050519a.html).
Our (Muslim Dearborn) Rep. John Conyers of MI, as mentioned above by into tech guy, has introduced a House Resolution that is a further erosion of the freedom of speech protection of the Constitution.
His resolution, highly praised by CAIR as a "winning move" (yeah, right), "condemns bigotry and intolerance against any religious group, including our friends, neighbors and citizens of the Islamic faith."
The resolution does not, of course, carry the force of law; JW would not, if it is passed, be illegal. However, it is Step One towards that eventual possibility. In Britain, an "anti-hate speech law" was recently a serious issue, and included the possibility of jailing people for saying something "offensive" about someone's religion.
The idea for that law didn't spring, fully formed, from the heads of the British lawmakers; it started with something much smaller, such as Conyer's resolution.
There should be no resolution that places constraints on the Constitutionally protected freedom of speech.
Protection of the freedom of speech does NOT include the freedom of people to lie, defraud, or deceive (such as yelling "fire" in a crowded theater where there is none). That's why libel, etc. laws are appropriate.
Our Constitutionally protected freedom to speak does, however, include assessments, evaluations, and honest intellectual criticisms of anything whatsoever.
Please take a moment to get in touch with your legislators and oppose this innocent-sounding resolution.
You know what "they" say about the Road to Hell. . . We have enough problems with Islam without being denied a significant means (e.g. telling the truth about it) to defend ourselves against its threat.
There's a good blog about this whole matter on sixthcolumn.blogspot.com today.
P.S.
Gary,
Love your links. Please go one step further, though, and place a descriptive sentence about the content. You know how it is--most of the time, we are racing out the door and don't have time to take a really good look at them. It would be a big help if we saw a description, and knew right away that that link was something that couldn't wait.
Thanks.
If these stations include Mosaic, on Link TV, which is a selection of broadcasts from 15 mid east countries, including Israel, and translated into English. I disagree with Rothman and MEMRI.
The American, not steeped in Arab culture, not poisoned by the mentality of Islam, looks at these programs and can't help but notice the propaganda, hyperbole, distortions of what they call news.
If the Muslims were smart, they'd clean up their act, and language. But the west is not the target, the target are the marginal minds of the perpetual aggressive victim the Muslim.
If Arab and Iranian broadcasts serve to motivate these marginal minds to acts of violence, then that's really a good thing.
Muslim initated violence is the only way to pull the somnulent American out of his sleep walking, and the only way to expose the likes of CAIR for what they are.
Remember prior to 9-11, the US (including 99.99% of the posters here) knew nothing about Islam except that it was a religion in the mid east.
Most folk weren't even aware that the US was infested by millions of muslims.
9-11 was a wake up call, just in time. LIke a fire alarm going off while you are asleep.
Using Muslim aggression as an excuse to squelch free speech, will only produce unintended adverse consequences, negate the constitution and in the end the policy and laws will bite the advocates in the butt.
What's needed is exposure of Islam and counter propaganda, not laws and censorship.
If we go the route of the latter, we'll wake up finding that we live in a totalitarians state, no better than Saudi Arabia or Iran.
This is exactly the type of propaganda feed that Bat Ye'or describes in "Eurabia", which has polluted the minds of Europeans for the last 3-4 decades, and which has all but dhimmified the entire Continent. This crap is not protected free speech on our air waves; it is pouring gasoline on a fire. The FCC should block it off.
Please don't take off the Islamic Cartoon Network!
How could we ever do without:
Hamza the Happy Headchopper!
The Kooky Ka'aba Rock Group!
Judenfrei Jihadi Street!
Zarqawi's Righteous Rascals!
Scoobie Sadr City
and my favorite:
The Powder Keg Girls!
(Almost as charming as the Scandinavian Muslim kids shown on a home video on the web last year mimicking the savage and shameless beheading of poor Nick Berg.)
ah, the joys of Islam....
