"130 dead since Thursday in Iraq," from AP, with thanks to Rebecca Bynum:
BAGHDAD, Iraq - A car bomb exploded in an upscale shopping district of Baghdad on Monday, killing at least six Iraqis and setting fire to an apartment building, in a surge of violence that has left at least 130 people dead since a new government was formed last week.
Striking back at the insurgency, U.S. and Iraqi forces have detained 84 suspects in the Baghdad area since Sunday, the U.S. military said. An additional 52 suspects were detained Monday in a joint operation in the Diyarah area, south of the capital.
The skyrocketing attacks are blamed on an insurgency believed largely made up of members of the disaffected Sunni Arab minority, who dominated Iraq for decades under Saddam Hussein but were mainly shut out of a partial new Cabinet announced Thursday...
Of course there couldn't be any religious motivation. They just didn't get enough seats in the new Parliament, so they decided to commit suicide in coordinated attacks and kill a bunch of people...sure, could happen to anybody...Didn't a lot of Democrats do this after the last election? Poverty, disadvantage, despair, you know, these things always lead to suicide -- at least in Muslim countries. What's that? Most jihad terrorists are middle class, educated folk? The main thing they have in common is a strong commitment to Islam? What are you, some kind of Islamophobe?
Morning all!
Mr. Fitzgerald covered the Academia pretty well this morning, so all I have to offer is this- the reason for the likes of giaour:

Aaaaarrrggghh!!!
What sort of nutcase is that? Isn't Ward Churchill enough of a lunatic? Are there more like that?
I guess that's America, everyhting goes. But then again, we have freaks like that here in Aussie-land also. Just recently I bumped into a guy who very seriously told me he is more concerned about the 'christian fundamentalists' than militant Islam...
beats me!
OK, so the Sunni MINORITY refused to vote, and are now shut out of the government.
Isn't this a democratic wet dream, actually?
Geoff
PS: I also note they were only PARTIALLY shut out, after dominating Iraq for so many years. So when powerful, autocratic minorties control the goings-on of a government, they get all "pouty" when real democracy comes in. Good God - grow up.

Ah, the "Religion of Peace" adds another 130 to its body-count.
