Laura Bush to ascend the Temple Mount to express good will toward Islam

From WND, "Bush Temple Mount visit fuels Jewish group's anger," with thanks to wwrwtw.

JERUSALEM – A group that led a Jewish protest at the Temple Mount last month in hopes of reclaiming the site from its Islamic custodians has expressed disappointment that U.S. First Lady Laura Bush, who arrives here tomorrow, plans to visit the Mount to honor Muslim tradition.

Bush, touring Jordan today, arrives in Israel tomorrow as part of a wider Middle East tour aimed at advancing regional peace and encouraging Israeli-Palestinian negotiations in accordance with the U.S.-backed road map.

According to Israeli media reports, the First Lady will visit the Temple Mount, among other religious sites.

U.S. officials said Bush had requested activities to honor Israel's three religions during her Israel visit. She will tour the Western Wall to pay respects to Judaism, visit a church in Jericho to honor Christianity, and ascend the Temple Mount to express good will toward Islam, said an official.

But David Ha'ivri, director of Revava, a Jewish Temple Mount activist group, said he is concerned Bush's visit will be perceived as official American recognition of Islamic control of the Mount...

Update from the UK Telegraph, "Laura Bush heckled on Jerusalem visit," with thanks to AvrageJoe.

Laura Bush, the US first lady, was heckled as she visited a flashpoint shrine in Jerusalem which is holy to both Muslims and Jews and is at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

A small crowd of about two dozen people surrounded Mrs Bush as she entered the Dome of the Rock mosque in Jerusalem's walled Old City.

A Palestinian worshipper cried out at her: "You are not welcome here. Why are you hassling our Muslims? How dare you come in here?"

Mrs Bush, who later made an appeal for peace, did not respond then or an old woman inside the mosque shouted "Koran, Koran" at her in Arabic.

Police linked arms around Mrs Bush as she left the mosque...

I think Ms. Bush has too much Rice in her diet.

The sooner this pussyfooting stops, the safer civilization will be.

Imperialistic Islam MUST be defeated.

While she's there she can force me to respect a book contianing ideas that when put into action call means my death.
I realy have lost respect for the Bush's they are totel dhimmies

http://infidels.kafirnation.com/due%20you%20want%20to.gif

That's right, bow down to your pedophilic muzzie master. The only thing the US should be sending these barbaric psychopaths is delivered via B-52 bombers. For the life of me, I can't belive the administration actually expects to accomplish something with this visit. We already know they are psychopaths, how many more disparaging pictures do the sheeple of the US need to finally understand these muzzies are THE ENEMY.

That is all.

See what this person is wearing on her head???
Isnt Laura Bush a proud American???

I guess not...... she is Dhimmi Bush now??
Will she divorce filthy infidel kaffir George and marry a sweet talking young charming musleman and be pumped with drugs untill she can be tricked into marrage and acceptance of islam as her religion . Then left on the street as a filthy homeless whore??
There is no strength left in our leadership.
There is NO common ground wherefore we can meet ((islam and the west)) as equals.

islam is always given preferential treatment and our brave citizens in the USA who guard the borders are denounced as vigilantes by the man in the catbird seat...Truly sickening.

Average_joe~ what she's wearing would at least deflect/soften the force of a thrown rock... but I'm not taking any bets that's what it is for.

Qur’an 9:17 “The disbelievers have no right to visit the mosques of Allah while bearing witness against their own souls to infidelity. These it is whose doings are in vain, and in the fire shall they abide. Only he shall visit the mosques of Allah who believes in Allah and the latter day, and keeps up devotional obligations, pays the zakat, and fears none but Allah.”

Dhimmi Laura Bush, Dhimmi Rice, how pathetic.

It is amazing that we continue to deal with a people who would destroy us in a millisecond if they could, all the while deluding ourselves that they are anything but what they have shown themselves to be down through the ages to the present (Backward Savages).

THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF INSANITY AND THE RECIPE MOSLEMS HAVE USED SINCE THE BEGINING FOR THE STRETEGIC CONQUEST OF THE DHIMMI.

Somehow westerner's human nature is to believe in the innate good of humanity. This is used a weapon against us by a people who are like a locust swarm in setting upon Infidels, of course Jihad really goes full force only when numbers are sufficent as stated in their Koran. Thanks to leaders like the Bush's and Chirac's of the Western world, suicidal immigration policies will see to that.

This tactic has be implemented time and again during Islam’s bloody spread throughout the world.

The central question should be:

Why despite ample evidence have civilizations welcomed these people into their midst’s? Is it because they too thought that they would somehow change the Moslems rather than be destroyed by them?

Laura Bush, I hope you learned a valuable lesson from your humiliation. Judging from your later comments, I think you are a textbook dummy, I mean dhimmi.

Average Joes telegraph link has ad’s for muslim matrimonials and find a muslim spouse on it, what’s up with that?

OH MY GOODNESS! You are right!!! i never even SAW that!! Thanx! ..and i reiterate.....
What is up with THAT?....
I am flabberghasted by the qirkiness of Coincidence..

Are you being sarcastic Joe? Here’s a link to the same story and it has better pictures and it’s free of pro muslim advertising.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,157283,00.html

I am NOT being sarcastic..i did not see the avert,...Look at how it fits with my first post
A pic of laura Dim with the scarf on her melon right next to the ad ....i find that quirky and humorous , And i was thanking you for pointing it out ,i had only saw the pic and read the article when i posted the first time , My observational skills are spotty at best ,...more coffee is needed.

Ok, thanks for explaining. Everyone knows how comments can be misinterpreted sometimes, I appreciated your reply. Have a great day.

While Laura Bush plays dhimmi, Muslims urge followers to burn and pee on US flag. From faithfreedom.org (http://www.faithfreedom.org/oped/BKisan50522.htm)

"..The hardcore Islamists like Yamin Zakaria came out with internet articles urging urinating on US and Israeli flags and then using the more traditional venue of fomenting hatred (Friday prayers) the Imam of a Mosque in Calcutta led his congregation of around 500 to burn, spit on and urinate on an American flag."

It is almost 4 years since 9/11 and the govt still plays dhimmi.

Look at the Telegraph link now, there’s a new muslim ad up for “Learning islam made easy, live and interactive classes for grades 1 to 8 for kids and BA program”.

The Telegraph seems awfully dhimmified to me. And yet people aren’t saying anything about it.

Budda, I'm getting a 404 on your link.

I had no particular reason for using the telegraph as a source .I was just looking for a pic of Laura and it was the first good pic I found ,This news site deserves scrutiny now that I see what is going on in the adverts.........

kinda depressing.
Islam just kind keeps sneaking in thru the cracks...like cockaroaches when the lights are off....And as far as i can tell from the pathetic actions of our dhimmi leadership ..the lights dont even have power running to them..All the bulbs are burnt out and the switches are broken....

Hugh Fitzgerald for US President!!The world is sorely in need of clarity and direction.

Better take a closer look at Laura Bush in her Hibib.
Looks to me like she's trying very hard not to wear it. Give the woman a little slack here. She took heat from both sides and it looks to me like she's not too happy with her reception. Photos from fox news.

I couldn't be happier about Laura Bush going up the Temple Mount. She got to see first-hand the way non-Muslims are treated when trying to access that site. Even though she dressed in order to give respect to the Muslims, maybe that will make her stop and think about how being Dhimmi For A Day didn't earn her any points at all. She was treated very badly, and the entire world got to see.

Also, take a look at this article:

http://www.arutzsheva.com/news.php3?id=82424

It has the same info as another story on CNN- namely, that some Muslim women studying inside the mosque (may its name be erased) were annoyed with Mrs. Bush. Question: what were women doing inside studying? This is not typical, that is reserved for men only most of the time. The women were allowed inside to study, accoridng to another columnist I read, just in order to give the illusion of equality, when we all know what BS that is. Sometiems, the news lies in the tiniest of details...

Regarding the muslim friendly links in the Telegraph Online:

That's what happens when you use Google AdWords. The Telegraph has got nothing to do with it. Google AdWords comes up with links it "thinks" are topical... that's the whole story. One reason not to take part in the Google AdWords nonsense. Might make your website look bad.

OT: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4570217.stm

This article has the headline "Swedish PM blasts media over sex" - I guess he's trying to prepare his country for Sharia Law... w***er!

I pray that G-d will bring the profane place down. Islam had NO business building that mosque on the Temple mount in the first place.

disillusionised_german,

Upon further review it doth seem that the Telegraph and Goggle have some kind of ad arrangement but we can all agree the telegraph should cancel the service. Besides, there are many better information sources other than the Telegraph. If one lives in the Telegraph’s vicinity it might be useful for want ads and local news but that’s all.

Perhaps this is a tipping point. One hopes that this was an eye-opening experience for Mrs. Bush, and that she will report to her husband that although she is the wife of the President of the United States, she was treated badly simply because she is a non-Muslim.

Cross:

I like to read the Telegraph because it's the only conservative UK newspaper that can be taken seriously - and it has some very good commentators as well (i.e. Charles Moore). The Telegraph's also probably the newspaper with the best (free) archive. I like it because it's somewhat close to my political views. A beacon in a forest of left-wing newspapers. I wouldn't say it's only of local value either ... as a German I can get a lot of input on European issues as well.

KAOSKTRL-

Thanks for the nifty link.

(If only it had audio!)

A healthy FLUSH! sound effect -after each page 'meets its maker'- would be righteous.

Average Joe-

The picture of Dhimmi Bush made my stomach crawl.

There are some good pics of Mrs Bush in her hijab in the Fox news website. It is important that we break barriers and come closer together, that is the way forward.

I guess ia786 you didn't read the story. Even after Mrs. Bush goes out of her way to be nice to muzis and even go so far as to put on a costume, she still received rude nasty comments from muzis, how do you explain that?

ia666-

So- a women becoming docile and subservient, that you consider "breaking barriers"?

Sounds more like breaking wind to me.

Mrs. Bush looks about as comfortable as a cat with its head stuck in a pickle jar neck.

ia786:

It's clear there is only one way forward and it doesn't include Muslims.

Checked out those photos of Laura Bush on Fox News. Seeing a Christian willingly don a hijab makes me sick! Furthermore, Muslims will see it as pandering (She may just be trying to be courteous, but this is seriously misguided) because all the world knows that Laura Bush is not submitting to the symbolism implied. But the symbolism of her dhimmitude is frightening.

And, of course, wearing the hijab made no difference. There was trouble there anyway.

Cross and others
this would be a good time to compare the coverage of Laura's visit from the BBC website and the Daily telegraph.

Now , honestly which is the Dhimmy article ?

Yeh, I think the trouble started with some Jews protesting. About a spy held in the US, can't remember where I read the article but it is stated that Muslims in the Mosque were surprised by her visit and followed her within the Mosque. Some Muslims did protest though.

Earlier she said "In the United States, we respect the traditions of all faiths."

Mrs. Bush said the experience showed her "what an emotional place" each holy site is. She added that "what we all want is peace."

Can't find the exact quote referring to the Dome of the Rock. She praised the beauty of the Mosque, I remember that.

First Lady lends ear to women of Palestine

BEN LYNFIELD
IN JERUSALEM

THE US First Lady, Laura Bush, on a tour of the Middle East to boost America's image, yesterday listened to something her husband has shown little interest in: the Palestinian side of the story.

Touching the Achilles heel of President George Bush's stated desire to spread democracy throughout the region, Palestinian women leaders told Mrs Bush during a meeting in the West Bank town of Jericho that their foremost problem is the Israeli military occupation, which they said is paralysing all aspects of life in the West Bank.

Terry Boulata, a school principal, spoke with Mrs Bush and showed her a map illustrating how Israel's security wall, built inside the occupied territory, is annexing Palestinian land to Israel and breaking Palestinian territory into enclaves.

"I spoke to her about the wall and how it is undermining the possibility of the viable Palestinian state which her husband has been promoting. It is destroying the chances of a two-state peace solution," Ms Boulata said.

Mrs Bush said: "I want to tell the people I met earlier that the US will do what it can in this process.

"It will also require the work of the people here, of the Palestinians and the Israelis to come to the table."

Mrs Bush's trip - which came as the Israeli president, Ariel Sharon, visited Washington - is part of her bid to take on a more prominent role in shaping the US administration's image.

Earlier Mrs Bush visited Judaism's holiest site, the Western Wall, accompanied by Israel's first lady, Gila Katsav. She then visited the sacred Muslim site, the Dome of the Rock, where she was jostled and heckled by protesters.

• A pro-Palestinian British activist who was shot in the head by an Israeli soldier died because of malpractice by his British doctors, a defence lawyer claimed yesterday in the trial of the soldier accused of the shooting.

The soldier, who is not identified under army regulations, is accused of shooting Tom Hurndall, 22, in 2003. Defence lawyer Yariv Ronen said that the soldier should be acquitted of a manslaughter charge because Mr Turndall died "because the doctors, together with the family, made a very clear decision to end his life".

Oh come on ia786, we didn't just fall off the turnip truck. Women in a Mosque studying? Get real.

Like obediant little AllahBots they go where and when they are told. Studying...Sure

Got any bridges for sale?

Poor foolish Dhimmi Laura. She sounds like a dhimmi european. Why is this adminisration missing 'the clues?' Don't you get it Dhimmi Laura. You are an infidel. You are scum. To kill an infidel, it is not like killing a human. It is something less. A dog maybe, maybe a monkey. But it's not like killing a human. Just ask shukri or ia.

And the muslim said to the infidel Dhimmi Laura - '"How dare you come here! Why is your husband killing Muslims?", one shouted.'

And the Dhimmi Laura, bows her head and is shamed. How dare a dhimmi set foot on their holy mound. Get a clue, Dhimmi Laura.

..Palestinian militant group Hamas issued a statement saying "we see in the visit of Mrs Bush an attempt to whitewash the face of the United States, after the crimes that the American interrogators had committed when they desecrated the Koran". ..

See now that the US gov't has practiced dhimmitude to this turd koran story, the door is now wide open. Oh by the way, Abbas will be here not to 'ask' bud 'demand' US financial support. You got that right. Tell that Dhimmi Bush how much taxpayer money you need. Bring a truck, better than that, bring 2 trucks, hell bring a fleet. We'll load you right up.

See how much fun being a dhimmi can be!

".. I pray that G-d will bring the profane place down. Islam had NO business building that mosque on the Temple mount in the first place.

Posted by: Carolyn2.."

Oh but Carolyn, that is their business. Look at the history of Islam. They destroy the icons of the idolatrous religions. Recent history: Taliban destroying the historic landmark of Buddha statues. 2001. 50 meters high! a landmark 2000 years old. Just rubble now. If they could have built a mosque on it's base, they would have. It's just not possible.

http://www.commondreams.org/headlines01/0301-04.htm

Queen Margrethe of Denmark said last month that people have to take the "challenge" of Islam seriously. "We have to run the risk of being labeled in an unflattering way, because there are some things for which we should display no tolerance," she said.
http://www.townhall.com/columnists/CarolineGlick/cg20050522.shtml

Yes, Libbysmom - This is good. All situations where Muslims let the mask slip are good. I'll bet Laura Bush has changed her ideas about Islam because of the way she was treated. Muslims never let a good opportunity pass for shooting themselves in the foot.

The more Muslim disrespect for others that the world sees, the sooner people will wake up.

Bush himself made the comment:

"I dont think a photo inspires murder (the photo of Saddam). I think they (the insurgents) are inspired by an ideology so barbaric and backwards that its hard for many in the western world to comprehend how they think".

Not much moral equivalency there. Could it be possible that this visit was arranged with full knowledge of how Laura Bush would be treated. Bush cant come right out and say what he truly thinks - the next best way is to allow incidents like this one to happen.

an American senator advised Arab leaders to focus on injustices in their own countries and reminded them that U.S. policy is security for Israel first and justice for Palestinians "if possible."
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=778583

There is no use glossing over Islam. There is no reasonable place for Islam on the planet. And any national leaders anywhere who proceeds to "educate" the public about the "peace religion" called Islam is doing the global community a huge disfavor.

http://www.faithfreedom.org/oped/GrantSwank50521.htm

FYI, Mrs. Bush donned a head covering when she visited the Kotel - the wailing wall, prior to ascending the Temple Mount, where the mosque is.

So did Israel's first lady, Mrs. Katsav.

So does every married Jewish woman, who abides by Jewish Halachic law.

Two technicalities:

1) Mrs. Bush isn't Jewish and was under no obligation to do so.

2) The covering she wore draped below and around her neck, as is Muslim's habits - not Jews.

Nevertheless, Judaism has obligations of modesty that involve a married women's covering her hair.

If you know my previous posts, I'm not lover of Islam, just to put my words into perspective. But snickering at every law and custom of their religion is both counterproductive and ignorant, IMO.

Unless, of course, you would like to bomb the Jews, too, because we've had laws of modesty on our books way before Muslims - or Christians for that matter - were around.

Shy Guy-

As you said, Mrs. Bush is neither Jewish nor Muslim, and, as a free woman from a land built on overcoming religious government rule, her mere kowtowing to either faith's irrational strictures (she could have just worn a very fashionable hat from some Fifth Avenue shop) is subtly demeaning.

If Jews and Muslims both have goofy costume customs that are contemptuous of women, that's not our problem.

An intelligent woman (like Oriana Fallaci perhaps?) could have finessed her way through their b.s. 'traditions' and made her point. But, being a small town librarian has clearly not equipped Mrs. B. for this realpolitik level of psychological warfare.

Hirsi Ali, where art thou?

Wow! Bigsleep. Talk of demeaning!

"When in Rome, do what the Romans do."

If you can't don't bother visiting. Mrs. Bush can and it was nice to have her visit.

As for "goofy customs" and contemptousness of women, you can watch it at the movies or on TV or read it in virtually every sleazy novel that's printed - 24 x 7 x 365.

Enjoy your flaunting of the flesh.

And please invite Oriana Fallaci to analyze Judaism's outlook on men and women and see whether she concludes that Judaism treats "women like camels" - her words in describing Islam.

I visited Israel in 1992. In Jerusalem my husband and I visited the Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock and The Western Wall accompanied by a knowledgable Israeli tour guide who would not have let us done anything improper or embarrassing. Our party was a mix of Christians of several denomination, Jews and an agnostic. None of us women covered our heads in either of the Mosques. I know things have changed in 13 years of course.
At the Western Wall, (and Rachel's tomb, and some synagogues of interest) we were never asked to cover our heads either. The men of course were provided with kippors. I will never forget the welcome we received at our end of the Western Wall, the friendliness of the greetings, the expessions of interest about where we had come from, the help I was given to reach a suitable space for my prayer. Shy Guy explains that as a non Jewish woman I was under no obligation to wear a scarf or hat, some Jewish women were, some were not. Some Christian churches still prefer women to wear hats, most don't.
I don't condemn Mrs Bush for wearing a scarf if good manners required it, but perhaps a little forsight and imagination might have produced something in a less submissive style.
The Queen's hats are something of a joke in Britain. Some years ago she made a state visit to somewhere in the Middle East. She wore a hat which was hideous to say the least, but while it covered more of her face and head than usual to conform to the conventions, it was still a British Queenly hat and not a submission.

Regarding men donning kippot (not "kippors") - scullcaps - there would be no obligation on non-Jews to do so when enterring a synagogue or the prayer plaza at the Kotel (Western Wall).

However, it's done because:

1. No one's going to stand there asking men whether they're Jewish or not.

2. Out of respect for the holiness of the site.

This is why, in fact, we were disgusted here by the recent visit of Turkish prime minister Erdogan to the Yad Vashem holocaust memorial, where he refused to don a kippa. Not because he had to but because that is the custom out of respect at that location.

"Regarding men donning kippot (not "kippors")".. refused to don a kippa

Thanks for putting me right, Shy Guy, I spelt it how I have always heard it pronounced, we East End Cockneys mutilate English so what we do to other languages.....

Well, Mrs. Bush wanted to show good will and respect, and got booed for her trouble. I think we Americans should now let the world know that our duty to the Falastin Arabs ends at those who are naturalized citizens of the USA--and there are durn sight more of them than are naturalized citizens of the first asylum countries in the Middle East (except Jordan)--and those who are legally in the USA and law-abiding.

I imagine that a good portion of Mr. Erdogan's trouble is that if he shows the slightest respect to anything Jewish,he's likely to have his own support base erupt in anger.

Granny Weatherwax: your post on "respectful behavior to the other guy" is on target.

For the past 60 years, in Germany, advocates of Nazism and wearers of Nazi regalia in public have been subject to legal sanction, including arrest and imprisonment. In the Palestinian Authority, by contrast, it appears that people who advocate the modern-day equivalent of the Final Solution get a check from their elected government and are given the opportunity to appear on Palestinian public television.
Today, no Palestinian talks seriously, at least in a public manner, about banning the kind of raw anti-Semitic hate speech that is routinely heard from the likes of Hamas — which is right now, the second most powerful political party in the West Bank and Gaza, right behind Mr. Abbas' Fatah.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/op-ed/20050522-110056-8381r.htm

Aside from al Qaeda, no terrorist group has killed more Americans than Hezbollah, which is bankrolled by Iran to the tune of at least $100 million a year. Hezbollah's main theaters of operation are Lebanon, its home country (where it killed hundreds of Americans during the 1980s), and the West Bank and Gaza, where it helps Palestinian rejectionists target Israel. But the group is active in the United States as well. Hezbollah is believed to have cells in at least 10 U.S. cities.

Muslims are taught to be Koran-programmed automatons, who no longer think for themselves (the mullahs do the thinking). Most seem to be so far divorced from their innate humanity that they no longer know what common human decency is. They cut the throats of air stewardesses with box cutters in front of the passengers, imagine the arterial spray; they strap bombs on their sons and daughters and send them to their death by blowing innocent people to bits of blood, flesh, bone and cloth. Then the mothers celebrate the "wedding" of their sahids (matyrs) to their barbaric diety. And they call that a holy thing. They are 1300 years out of phase with the rest of the world.

These people don't do common human decency. Only what their murderous Koran says.

Shy Guy-

"Flaunting of the flesh"?

For not wearing a hijab?

Wow, talk about over-reacting!

Is it "demeaning" to not allow yourself to be demeaned?

Hmmm....

Everyone can wear whatever their fickle faiths foist upon them, but, as mentioned, since Mrs. Bush is neither Muslim nor Jewish, she only needed to show 'symbolic respect' for something she doesn't adhere to herself.

Maybe a French beret with a U.S. flag pin?

"When in Rome..." is not meant to require you to cut out your brains if that's the custom of the place you visit. But to have the savvy to keep to natives happy and still show your own core beliefs are not disposal at the border.

A nice Jewish boy put it better than I:

"It is not what goes into a person's mouth but what comes out of it that makes them unclean."

(That's what I mean by "goofy customs".)

Since the mosque is located on what was originally the site of a church (Church of Holy Wisdom, or Hagia Sophia, built by Constantine [just like the other Hagia Sophia in Constantinople]), I see no reason at all that any Christian woman should feel obliged to submit to a conquering moon god when she visits the site of the desecrated church. That the site is also believed by some to be the location of Solomon's Temple doesn't convince me either. Nor does the association with the Templars.

Lorenzo

Lorenzo said:

And your are Mr. Archeology 2005, no doubt?

Or are you a part-time Christian Arab tourguide?

According to some research by Daniel Pipes, rather than see the Dome of the Rock fall into the care and control of the advancing British forces, Turkey instructed its Austrian allies to blow it up. Were it not for the personal, physical intervention of a Jewish captain of the Austrian forces, those orders would have been carried out.

Pity.

Shy Guy-

Many Jewish archeologists dispute the exact placement of the last Temple's siting. The most recent puts it between the so-called 'Dome of the Rock' and the 'Al-Aqsa' mosque.

I would personally be thrilled if the U.N. could force the Muslims to leave the city that they have zero historical connection to, except as late invaders, and give back the land they stole in the middle ages. And have a new Temple rise on the site.

Christian fundamentalist notions of the ensuing Apocalypse be damned.

Mazeltov!

P.S.

The more I think of it, your earlier "when in Rome" advice is a tad ill-chosen, since it was Rome that destroyed Jerusalem, burned down the Temple, stole their religious objects, and scattered the Jewish people -who survived the war- into a 1900 year long diaspora.

Ah well... it's the thought that counts.

(I've been to Rome, and all I ever found the need to do in order to 'adapt' was to learn the phrase "Una bottiglia agua minerale.")

L'chaim!

Lorenzo--the church of the Holy Wisdom, or Hagia Sophia (Ayasofia) is in Istanbul, not Jerusalem. The site where the Mosque of 'Umar stands was the site of Solomon's Temple from about 960 BC to the beginning of the 6th century BC, then of the Second Temple (Jewish) from some time after the exile to 70 AD, when it was detsroyed by the Romans under Titus. It was briefly a pagan temple in the 2d century, after the second Jewish revolt; and in Byzantine times, it was part of Jerusalem's garbage dump. Scholars like Pipes and Lewis report that Omar built a mosque on the site in recognition of its former sanctity (so much for the PLA trying to deny a jewish interest in it).

Kepha, thanks for replying to Bigsleep.

Have you ever been here, in Jerusalem, Bigsleep?

Can you explain why the Hulda gate and the southern steps of the temple mount and the gate of Mercy and so much more are exactly as they are described in the Mishnah, compiled 2000 years ago?

Can you explain the stones found there, warning unpurified persons not to enter the temple mount, precisely as Jewish law states?

Can you explain why for 2000 years, no one argued about the Temple Mount being anywhere else - even the Muslims stated so in their earlier writings?

In 2000 years from now, people won't be able to swear where the World Trade Center once stood. There's nothing left of it. Not so the Temple. Many of its entrances, though blocked up and filled in, are there. The stores and court area outside of the Temple's walls have been uncovered. Robinson's Arch is there for all to see.

There's been an almost unbroken Jewish presence in Israel for these past 2000 years of our exile. We face Jerusalem and the Temple 3 times a day in our prayers. We prayer for the rebuilding of Jerusalem in our grace after meals. The Bible mentions Jerusalem over 600 times. Our national day of tragedy, since the destruction of the first Temple, from the time of Jeremiah, is the 9th of Av. We fast on that day, recalling our own faults that lead to the Temple's destruction and contemplate on what we need to do to see it rebuilt in our time.
