"Religious Violence in Benue, Nigeria, Claims 17 Lives," from Open Doors USA, with thanks to the Snail:
LAGOS, Nigeria -- Fourteen Christians were among 17 people killed in the villages of Chilakera and Imbufu in the central state of Benue, Nigeria, as a result of violent clashes between Christians and Muslims.According to police reports, the violence in Benue occurred on April 10 when Muslim militants attacked the two villages, killing 14 people and destroying valuable property.
The chairman of Katsina Ala local government council, Tsenongo Abancha, told Compass on May 6 that tensions between the two religious communities in Chilakera village was fueled by the rape of a Christian student, Miss Ngumalen Atser, at the hands of two Muslim men.
"This girl was not only raped by these Muslims, but was also poisoned to death on March 17," Abancha said. "This sad incident strained the
relationship between Christians and Muslims."...
There's an understatement.
Over the past four years, religious violence in Nigeria has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people and displaced many thousands more from their homes and farms.Community leaders in Nigeria -- both Muslim and Christian -- blame the escalating violence on social tensions produced by the implementation of Islamic law in a dozen northern states of Nigeria beginning in 2001.
Where's NewsWeek on this one? Hmmmm?
The incident which ignited the attacks on the Christian villages is worthy of special attention. Rape of Christian/"infidel" women by Muslim men is a recurrent theme throughout the world. (Of course, Hindu/"infidel" Kashmiris have also experienced this phenomenon in recent times.)
Aside from the fact that Muslims seem to view any non-Muslim woman as free for the taking when the veneer of legal protection is unclear or not particularly intimidating, rape of infidel women is used as a means to retaliate against, drive off or intimidate infidels.
So, one wonders what the real motivation was behind the rape (and murder) of Ngumalen Atser in Nigeria...
The Muslim methods haven't changed for 1400 years.
When they're not attacking Christians...

When they're not attacking Christians.….
They are fighting over the new stock of veils. Unfortunately I cannot find an on line link to this story which I saw on television about 2 years ago on the Correspondent programme. Nigeria women had for years covered their hair with brightly woven cloths which matched their dresses and were tied in a variety of individual styles. The leaders of the mosques in this particular town decided that this was on correctly islamic so they ordered a supply of plain black veils from one of the Arab countries. Each woman queued to collect her veil, there were not enough in stock so a fight broke out over the last few remaining.
The same programme told of the law forbidding Moslem women to ride pillion on their husbands motorbikes (I saw whole families on tiny Jawas in the 1980s in Cairo). A Christian pastor was being constantly stopped when he travelled to services with his wife on his machine. She rode side-saddle, very decorously, wearing a Sunday best hat.
Not born to hate.
But taught.
'...forbidding...'
Is there any other religion where so much forbidding goes on?
One of the Elders at my church is going to Nigeria as a missionary. I hope he knows the risks.
They should also send troops there to clean up the cockroach problem.
Where's NewsWeek on this one?
Don't worry, DCWatson. "National Review" will make everything right! LOL.
It seems to me that if we are in agreement here with the near-certainty that the "spontaneous" Queer-an desecreation riots were actually planned weeks if not months in advance and just waiting for a reason to initiaite, why should we hold NewsWeak in scorn at all? A liberal periodical sparks one phony outrage riot, a conservative politician sparks another... why would any artificial distinction matter to us?
kj,
I applaud Newsweak on this one!
Effractor: From the bbc link you gave
--------------------------------
"The underlying problem, however, remains.
The majority of Muslims in Sokoto are Sunni and make up the bulk of worshippers at the two central mosques.
They accuse the Shias of preaching against their leaders and want them to move elsewhere. "
--------------------------------
I'm afraid the BBC has no idea of the nature of the underlying problem.
It is the koran - a book that is in dire need of global disrespect.
Perfect followers of the 'perfect' (pedophile) prophet.
They read the Koran, got its simple message down pat, and followed it to the the letter:
Rape and murder all who will not bow to Allah.
That's the story they all refuse to report.
Cowardice?
Ignorance?
Sympathy?
"[S]trained relationship between Christians and Muslims..."?!!? What politically-correct nonsense!
The truth of the relationship is this: The goal of Muslims is to dominate all others. They view the infidels as subhumans, and that view allows them to commit atrocities in the name of Allah. The only peace which their ideology propagates is peace under the boot of Islam.
