Sword and bullets, scourging and stoning; these are the ways that Islam is forced upon populations and how the practice of the faith is maintained. A religion of peace and tolerance? A lie that is repeated often enough some to be believed.

Beware of Muslims in your midst. There may be moderate Muslims but extremists use swords and bullets, stoning and scourging to overcome and force moderates to toe the extremists' line. Moderates that don't comply will by punished as apostates. In the end, what choices do you think they are given? The same as non-Muslims: "revert," slavery, or death.

So the Bush Honeypot Doctrine is really working. As I explained in the linked article, the Americans completely outwitted the jihadis who attacked us on 9/11 by striking at the heart of the defunct Islamic empire ("land of the caliphate") that the jihadis are trying in vain to revive, instead of getting sucked into the mountains of Afghanistan like the Soviets did in the 1980s. Baghdad is the perfect von Clauswitzian "center of gravity". There are others. Damascus comes to mind, and so does Mecca.

If the jihadis persist in their depredations on American interests and especially upon the American homeland itself, they would be wise to heed the lessons of history. The median voter in the United States need only be convinced that their survival is at stake and the resolve of the nation could very easily swing back into the configuration that existed on the eve of August 6, 1945. No rational human being would hope for a repeat of that horror, but then no rational human being would also dismiss its fact and the probablility of it happening again if it becomes necessary.

Now if only we could inject some rational thinking into the fanatical adherents of the Islamic ideology before it is too late.
