An Update on the Muslim Riots in Uzbekistan from CBS News, "U.S. Ally Fires On Its People"
ANDIJAN, Uzbekistan - President Islam Karimov claimed Saturday that authorities tried to negotiate a peaceful end to protests, but that troops were forced to open fire when insurgents who had seized a government building attempted to break through an advancing line of Uzbek police and soldiers. He said 10 government troops and "many more" militants died in fighting Friday in the eastern city of Andijan. Relatives of the victims condemned the government, accusing troops of killing innocent civilians. Witnesses said 200 to 300 people were shot dead.
Soldiers loyal to Karimov, who has maintained tight control over this Central Asian nation, fired on thousands of demonstrators Friday to put down an uprising that began when armed men freed 2,000 inmates from prison, including suspects on trial for alleged Islamic extremism. The U.S. State Department expressed concern on Friday that members of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, which is on the U.S. list of terrorist groups, were freed...
The only thing that these violent beasts seem to respond to, is violence. Why are so many muslims rioting all over the world? What the hell is going on? I mean, they're rioting in Afghanistan, Iraq, Indonesia, all over the damned place.
Doesn't this strike anyone as odd? muslims Are at war with the entire World. Shame on this so-called 'religion of peace'. It's a cult of war and everyone knows it.
Our patience is wearing thinner by the day. Put down mohammed's sword and join the civilized world for cryin out loud.
Freaks!
Have a beautiful, fun, kafir kinda day! :o)

They rioted in the north of England about three or four years ago too.
ZICO.. what did the Ropers do to Northern England?
I'm lucky... I live in a relatively small town that is 100% mosque free. We all aim to keep it that way. Kinda like "pest control".
Zico... what happened in N England? Got linx?
I'm lucky .... I live in a relatively small town that is 100% mosque free, and we all aim to keep it that way. Kinda like pest control, ya know.
OK this type key thing is making me think I have to post everything twice. Please excuse the extra post :o)

Notice the sympathetic sound of this article. Our news media just doesn't get it. They released jihadis from jail, they want more islam, and islam is death.

Here is a brilliant article that puts the Muslim riots in the north of England in perspective. It is written by Farrukh Dhondy, who is a British writer who was born in Bombay, India, and belongs to the Zoroastrian faith. They are the people who were exterminated in Iran when the Arabs invaded and converted the whole of Persia to Islam, a few of them managed to escape and make it to safety in India.

They´re killing islamists, I can´t be happy but I am not sad either.

Last sentence from the FoxNews article mentioned by Carolyn2:
"Uzbekistan is slightly larger than California and, with 25 million people, is Central Asia's most populous country. It is frequently denounced by human rights groups for torture and repression of opposition."
As I understand it, the current president is Muslim. Has he been "oppressing" Islamists? If so, more power to him. They cry out to be oppressed.
I can't get the straight of this story from the mainstream media, which constantly refers to "insurgents" and "rebels."
Someone here, enlighten me. Is what's going on in Uzbekistan a case of moslem against moslem?

I took your last post here.
There are some very good testimonies coming out.
Not until today - did I see a need to group them and share them
I hope you don't mind - and I will come back later and post the web address for the page I haven't created yet.
What I'm doing - is backing up EVERY word you say - with either Koran writings - Holy Scriptures - and some of my own words.
My words can be thrown out.
But NOT the facts when it comes to what 'allah' supposedly says - and what the Lord ACTUALLY does say.
If you don't want me to....just post here - that you don't - and I will immediately remove it.
I have saved this Jihad page in my favorites and will check back.
Also - any time - anyone sees anything that they would be good to add - share.
2 'like' minds are ALWAYS better than one!
This is a project that I have some ideas about.
Since it's new - it'll take time.
Anyway - GREAT post! I'll post the page later
My understanding is that the Uzbek government sanctions Islam 'lite'.
An article I read, from around 1996, indicated that while the majority of the population stated Islam as their religious preference, that same population was weak on the basic tenets of Islam.
Not surprising, when you consider that they're not Arabs.
Even nine years ago, the Uzbek government (which does have human rights issues) was concerned about the potential encroachment of a more fundamentalist brand of Islam over time.
Perhaps that time has arrived.

I posted this yesterday but in the wrong place.
The main response here to the mass murder of innocent Muslims by its very own government (the sort of of thing from which Dubya claimed he was rescuing Iraqis – no mention of their oil), has been to blame the victim – it seems that if oil poor Muslims are murdered by the dictator who lords it over them with American help, they have still only themselves to blame.
Here are some of the causes for the rioting (besides Islam of course):
"They put a gas mask on him and started torturing him. He was shouting, crying. I have never heard such a sound coming from a human being.”
This is how the Uzbek government, that staunch ally of that epitome of civillisation, the USA, treats political dissidents. Read more about it here:
http://www.muslimuzbekistan.com/eng/ennews/2002/12/ennews04122002_h.html
and here:
"Shelkavenko’s scrotum was unevenly blackened and swollen, and he had a long indentation at the top of his left thigh"
http://www.muslimuzbekistan.com/eng/ennews/2004/05/ennews21052004_h.html
and here:-
"Separately, international human rights groups had reported that torture in Uzbek jails included boiling of body parts, using electroshock on genitals and plucking off fingernails and toenails with pliers. Two prisoners were boiled to death, the groups reported."

(Civillised isn't it? An example to those rioting rabble)
Not, of course, that the US is unaware of this - they actually outsource their torture to Uzbekistan by sending suspects there.
Am I being PC? I'm so sorry. I shall immediately retract everything I've said and attribute every desperate human response in the Muslim world to Islam – no doubt if those of you posting here were yourself so tortured or saw your loved ones so tortured under such a regime, you’d embrace your government and the foreign power who kept them in place.

Ganymede: I followed your link. "Andrei Shelvenchenko" doesn't look like the sort of name an Uzbek Muslim militant would be likely to bear--there are lots of non-Muslim Slavs, Koreans, Urum, and other ethnicities living in that country as well.
Uzbekistan and Pakistan are two reasons why I was never a big fan of a major intervention in Afghanistan; and pleasantly surprised when they actually held an election. Pakistan is about the frailest reed anyone could lean on; and Uzebkistan's rotten human rights record is a matter of long-standing knowledge, with political dissidents, Slavic Evangelicals, and ethnic Uzbek or Tajik Christians as special targets. A far better tack on Afghanistan would have been to lie low, quietly build intelligence capabilities, and nab OBL and Mullah Omar when they aren't expecting it.
But, I'm not holding my breath for Russia to be able to do much for Afghanistan. It's male population is declining rapidly, and started showing dangerous demographic signs prior to the Soviet collapse.
Remember that Uzbek leader Karimov was the first one to support the US actions in Iraq! For this the "Islamic Jihad" and "Hizb Ut- Tahrir" called to overthrow him.

EXCLUSIVE: Uzbekistan: Islamic Rebels Appeal for Putin's Help
Author: Ulugbek Djuraev, AIA Central Asian coordinator
13.05.05
Antigovernment riots continue in Andijan, one of the largest cities of Fergana Valley, situated in the eastern part of Uzbekistan. This outbreak started yesterday evening, provoked by followers of the Islamic sect "Aqramia". Last night there were several attacks on the military base, prison and the office of security services, that are situated inside the city and in its suburbs. Russian internet sites hostile to Uzbek government published the statement of rebels' leaders. It is said there: "We appeal to Russian leadership, and to Vladimir Putin personally, asking them to interfere in the situation. We ask Russia to be a mediator in our negotiations with the authorities".
Andijan is the center of the homonymous area in Fergana Valley (the eastern part of Uzbekistan). This area shares border with Kyrgyzstan. Close to its border are the cities of Jalal-Abad and Osh that were in the center of riots against the president Askar Akayev in March.
Andijan area (4200 square km) is one of the most densely populated areas in the Central Asia. Its population is about 2 million people, according to the census held in 1994. Population of Andijan itself, according to the same census, exceeded 300 thousand people.
Shrine of the Sufi sheikhs
Andijan is one of the oldest Islamic centers in Fergana Valley. Before Andijan's annexation to the Russian Empire in 1876, one of the largest Sufi centers in the region (Naqshbandi tariqat) acted in city's district. After the establishment of Russian authority in Fergana Valley Andijan became one of the main centers of national liberation movement under the leadership of Sufi sheikhs (for example, Adijan uprising of 1898 under the leadership of Madali-Ishan).
With the beginning of communist expansion in the Central Asia in 1918, and up till the end of the 1920s, Andijan area once again became the center of national resistance under the guidance of Islamic leaders. During the Soviet period, as a result of mass repressions of Islamic clergy, centers of Islamic studies in Andijan and its district moved into the underground and functioned illegally.
Uprising Under a Green Flag
In 1979, Abdulwali and Rahmatulla, Islamic leaders of a new formation from Margilan, settled down in Adijan. They held a strict anti-Soviet position, striving for diffusion of "pure" Islam among the population of Adijan, and in particular – among the locals of neighboring villages. The two of them were under the influence of illegally imported works of Egyptian and Pakistani ideologists of Islamic fundamentalism.
In 1981, Rahmatulla died in a car accident. Abdulwali Qari became the most popular unofficial Islamic cleric in Andijan and its district. He played one of the key roles in the process of radicalization of the Islamic underground movement in Fergana Valley in the beginning of the 1980s.
At the end of 1980s – beginning of the 1990s, Andijan, together with Namangan and Kokand, was one of the centers of Islamic renaissance in Uzbekistan.
After the Islamic movement of Fergana Valley openly came against the government, a part of its activists left Uzbekistan and settled down in neighboring countries. Actions of the opposition provoked strict countermeasures of the authorities. Regardless of this, Islamic activists continued to function in Andijan. In the late 1990s, using help from abroad, a number of underground Islamic associations and groups emerged in Andijan area. Some of them were of a clear oppositionist character. Others, being also hostile to the secular Karimov's regime, paid the most attention to the issue of mutual aid. Fearing of possible seizure of Fergana Valley by the Islamists, Uzbek authorities tried to neutralize the oppositionist activity in Andijan district. This provoked discontent of a large part of the local population, which is much more religious than most of Uzbek citizens. Activists of Islamic underground used this situation for their needs, as well as the atmosphere in the region after the overthrow of ruling regime in neighboring Kyrgyzstan month and a half ago. As a result, at night between 12th and 13th of May a rebellion broke out in Andijan, initiated by one of local Islamic groups "Aqramia".
Andijan: Cradle of Islamic revolution?
Andijan that was traditionally one of Islamic centers of the Central Asia, served as a stronghold of resistance from the beginning of Russian occupation and till the final establishment of the Soviet regime. In the early 1980s the activity of non-official Islamic spiritual leaders (in particular, Abdulwali Qari) in Andijan played one of the key roles in formation of Uzbek current in Islamic fundamentalism. Spiritual leaders also had a great influence over the ideological formation of future warlords of "Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan". In the early 1990s Andijan became one of the centers of Islamic opposition to the secular regime of Islam Karimov. Today the events in Andijan can be a beginning of Islamic revolution in the whole Fergana Valley. This in its turn can provoke a sharp destabilization not only in Uzbekistan, but in the Central Asia as a whole.

Thank you
Kepha,
"Andrei Shelvenchenko" doesn't look like the sort of name an Uzbek Muslim militant would be likely to bear--there are lots of non-Muslim Slavs, Koreans, Urum, and other ethnicities living in that country as well.”
True – though you might be surprised at the names of some people who would describe themselves as “Muslim”; they’re not all called “Islam” or “Muhammad”.
I do take your point, however, about the repression in Uzbekistan being more or less evenly meted out by the government against Uzbekistan’s many ethnic and religious groups.
I concentrated on the repression against Muslims in particular because the general response in this thread to the riots in Uzbekistan were to the effect that “those evil Muslims were at it again”. What a pity you didn’t intervene earlier to tell your Muslim-hating friends in this thread what you decided to tell me.
Fair enough, Ganymede. Perhaps we could agree that the Karimov regime is one that looks as if if could be collapsing under its own weight?
Where does "Kepha" come from? What does it mean?
Ganymede: Read the New Testament in Greek--or, better yet, Syriac (or even Delitzsch's Hebrew translation).
Great info by A.M i just love it when truth is told it just cuts to the quick.Only by the truth will we be able to see what is really going on i have been whatching and waiting for this day for 16 years it was all made clear in a book by George Otis jr.islam the last of the giants Also a great book for prospetive on all of this is Imperial hubris by Annonimous. Those who have ears to hear let them hear.
Kepha, Peter, “The Rock” (since you chose not to tell me the meaning I was obliged to look it up myself) – you appear to be a man of some erudition. I thought your name was interesting and was being conversational. I must confess I don’t intend to explore the esoteric charms of Aramaic, Syraic or Hebrew any time soon!
