The American Government was all set to summon Sherlock Homes and Inspector Clouseau to Guantanamo Bay: Word was out that someone had placed a Qur’an on the toilet. Or was it in the toilet? Did it even happen?Actually, once again, an irresponsible report was produced by our media that has resulted in more than a dozen unnecessary deaths at the hands of rioting Muslims.
Apparently these fools have no idea how easily an erroneous report like this incites a group of people who are not known for being rational in the first place to step up their continual rage and aim it at the United States.
From the tiresome, overplayed naked “Twister” games at Abu Ghraib, to Kevin Sites, the imbedded “Journalist” who filmed a Marine shooting a Muslim who was playing dead at a Fallujah mosque in Iraq, to this. If the media is on the side of our enemies, and against the nation that gives them the freedom to be so stupid, they should move to the Middle East and see if they’re allowed freedom of the press over there. Would they appreciate America once they did move to the Middle East and had their tongues cut out for misreporting the news over there?
The manner in which the major news networks have reported this war is a disservice to the American people and a complete disgrace to the American Armed Forces. What they ought to know by now is that when a Muslim is jailed, it’s extremely common for them to lie and accuse their jailers of torturing and humiliating them.
The manner in which our government has handled this particular report is just as ridiculous.
Almost immediately, we saw our esteemed Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and White House Press Secretary Scott McClellen attempting to soothe the rioting Muslim world.
Secretary Rice said: "Disrespect for the holy Koran is not now, nor has it ever been, nor will it ever be, tolerated by the United States, "We honor the sacred books of all the world's great religions. Disrespect for the holy Koran is abhorrent to us all."
I'm not sure whom Ms. Rice was referring to when she used the term “abhorrent to us all”, but for the hundreds of millions of people around the world who actually understand who we’re fighting in this inadequately named “War on Terror”, it’d be surprising to learn that anyone has lost a second’s worth of sleep over the Qur’an being placed on, or dunked into a toilet. After all, it’s not like there aren’t verses in that book that needed to be washed away centuries ago. And to describe it as being “holy”, is truly a matter of opinion -- take, for example, verses 4:34, 4:89, 5:17, 5:51, 8:12, 9:5 and 9:29.

Since 9/11, the Muslim world has had nearly four years to prove that Islam contains a majority of moderates, with only a small minority of Islamic terrorists who have merely “hijacked” Islam, and that Islam, as it is so regularly described, is truly a “religion of peace”. Where is their evidence?Muslims have brought to us 3000 murders on our soil, thousands of murders overseas, billions of dollars lost, memories of raging fires, mangled bodies and steel, and an obese, toothless Palestinian woman in her hijab dancing in the street of her slum on 9/11 after the WTC towers collapsed. Can free societies honestly afford to permit any further Muslim immigration? This column certainly does not pertain to Arab Christians, Arab Jews, Christian Africans or Hindus, but to Muslims and the Islamic ideology. Do the governments of free societies honestly know what they’re getting their nations into?
Why is it necessary to coddle the Muslim world, which hates us and always will? This point was made on JW, but bears repeating. Of late, we have been told of all sorts of destruction and desecration of Christian churches and Jewish holy sites by Muslim mobs, yet we do not see Christians or Jews rioting in the streets, in a frenzied state, demanding reprisals and killing their co-religionists, as they froth at the mouth over the perceived outrage.
As for the cretins at Newsweek who authored this debacle, what ever happened to the journalistic requirement of checking sources? I guess if your purpose is to paint your government and armed forces in the worst possible light at every opportunity, that basic requirement goes into suspension.

Thanks, DC, for the great editorial! I had high hopes for Condi Rice but I am beginning to have doubts about her. I add my voice to those who comment on the many ugly incidents that are done BY Muslims, without riots in NYC, or London, or Rome. I can think of so many, the take-over and descration of the Church of the Holy Nativity by Islamic thugs in Bethlehem several years ago, the burning of a priceless 20,000 book library of a Mandaean priest(follower of John the Baptist)by Shiites in southern Iraq last fall, the blowing up of ancient Buddhist statutes by Muslims in Afghanistan several years ago.....the list of endless...and, of course, these examples are of lifeless objects, not the discrimination, pain and death of non-Muslims inflicted by Muslims in every country where Islam dominates. I wonder if anyone in the media will turn their attention away from the sloppy Newsweek reporting and to the real story, the reaction by Muslims and the display of hate and fanaticism that spills from the Islamic world so easily and so often.

Bush, in an off-the-cuff remark, initially said that the battle against terrorism and the liberation of Afghanistan from the Taliban would be a 'crusade' to help the suffering humanity in that land.
He was merely using the word in the Billy Graham folksy sense of "a do-gooder act", unaware, as Newsweek apparently was oblivious with its 'Koran flushing' blurb, that it had a power within Islam to incite rage if used in a 'militaristic' context.
He and Rice seem to be unable to say anything coherent or penetrating about our conflct with radical Islam in the way History requires Strength to speak to Madness.
Rice's repeating of the phrase "The Holy Koran" during her lame attempt to calm the hysteria over its alleged 'desecration' made me want to vomit. She is not a religious teacher, so the words 'desecration' have no place coming from her mouth as a government functionary. "Destruction" is the word "Dr." Rice.
'Desecration' is a theological concept, not a governmental or judicial one. To even use it unconsciously elevates a book which advocates endless violence and global tyranny to the level of other 'sacred' literature. An insult to all believers who do not go crazy over their 'bibles'.
Rice should resign in disgrace.
And Bush should stop this dhimmi dance.

I still have faith in Bush and Rice's leadership. I really believe that they both understand the innate violence of Islam. I think when they say things like "Islam is a religion of peace" etc., they are just speaking platitudes to keep the incendiary Muslim world calm, so that the military can obtain the intelligence it needs-from other Muslims-to prosecute this war successfully. We will never find Osama bin Laden and Zarqawi and every other Islamic terrorist without good intel. Much of such intel comes from Muslims. We still need their cooperation.
That said, however, I think the media-the internet, the networks, cable news, newspapers, etc.-should go public with the truth about Islam right now. Since the media are not the government and the government is not the media, the U.S./Coalition can have it both ways (for a while anyway). The U.S. gov. can stick with the platitudes to protect intelligence gathering operations and soldiers lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. The media can present the truth about the violence and misogyny of Islam. This media pressure can work to the West's advantage, b/c it will have Islamic organizations bending over backwards to attempt to maintain the illusion that "Islam is a religion of peace".
I think with the truth about Islam out in the public, the people will put the necessary pressure on the government to curtail Muslim immigration to America, and to take the other defensive measures that other posters have suggested numerous times. At least I hope so.
