The site used to carry messages from al-Qaida, but has fallen out of use recently. Soon, the statement appeared on another militant site, where other posters quickly denounced it as untrue and unauthorized by the terror group.

Since Zarqawi & Co. apparently carries out the attacks, they have 100% responsibility on their side. But then again, without the US invasion, there would be no car bomb attack, so my tentative conclusion is that both are 100% responsible due to their respective roles in bringing about a car bomb attack.

Al Uzza identified with planet Venus, and worshiped at times under the form of an acacia tree: and Manat a huge stone worshiped as an altar by several tribes. The Arabs also worshiped angels, whom they called female gods and the daughters of god. They imagined that these images of angles were animated by them and were intercessors with god for man. The most celebrated and central object of arab worship however was the blackstone of Mecca set in the corner of a square building called the Kaaba, in which also are placed the images of Abraham and Ismael each carrying in their hands divine arrows.

You missed a very important point. The US was ASKED by the duly elected government of Iraq to stay.
Therefore, Zarqawi is ignoring the legimately expressed wishes of the Iraqi people, in addition to murdering them. The argument that it is an occupation is no longer valid.

Here is an excerpt from the World Economic Summit in Jordan. It contains comments from the new Iraqi government. They seem to be quite happy about their new status.
Zebari leads off the Iraq panel with a speech making the salient points: It has been only eleven months since Washington transferred sovereignty to the Iraqis themselves — Iraq is not an occupied nation, but “an emerging democracy.” Last Jan. 30, “millions of citizens defied terror and death” to cast their ballots. The people are “hungry for democratic progress.” Unfortunately — and outrageously — “the insurgency persists,” as “Saddamites and foreign fighters” attempt to “foment civil war, undermine democracy, spread terror, and destroy our vision.” But Iraqis “will not have their future dictated by the atrocities of a few.”
He makes a smart reference to “the headlines,” which emphasize trouble over opportunity and gains. He talks of making every effort to involve Sunnis — who have been reluctant — in the political process. And he says that the country is “not ready to be self-reliant,” is not yet prepared for the U.S. and its allies to go. But the faster Iraq succeeds politically, “the sooner multinational forces can go home.”
Zebari decries “public agitation against democracy in the mosques and the media,” and says that Iraq “deserves respect from Arab and Islamic countries.” What’s more, a free, self-governed Iraq is realizable, and taking shape before our eyes: It is not “an intangible ideal.”
Next to speak is Hassani, the parliamentary head. He says that he agrees with everything Zebari has said, except for one point: “And we can disagree. This is the new Iraq, a democracy!” (Zebari said that Sunnis chose not to participate in the Jan. 30 elections, and Hassani insists that this was not voluntary, but a result of violence in Sunni areas.) Hassani explains that terrorists have infiltrated Iraq from neighboring countries. “I’m not saying that there are no Iraqis” in the insurgency, “but the majority of the car bombs” and other such acts “are done by foreign terrorists.” He criticizes some U.S. policies of the past: He says that de-Baathification was badly implemented, and that it was wrong to dissolve Iraqi security forces — they have had to start from scratch.
But “we are building a new republic, which is actually Iraq’s second republic.” (I can’t help thinking of that magazine, in Washington: If they want to know what a real new republic looks like, they should turn to Iraq.)
Not for the first time, I am struck by the bravery, wit, and determination of these Iraqi officials. As I learn throughout the conference, they all speak of “the change” — that’s their name for what has occurred in Iraq since March 2003: “the change.” And a beautiful phrase it is, here.
I would encourage you, too, not to treat lightly that little joke about disagreeing: The parliamentary speaker and the foreign minister disagree. In an Arab country, this is no common occurrence. The Iraqi situation should not be taken for granted, or minimized.
After all the panelists have spoken, there is a short period left for questions from the audience — about eight minutes. And who should dominate this period but Amr Moussa, the secretary-general of the Arab League. He is sitting in the middle of the first row. Even more than Brahimi, Moussa is the personification of the Old Guard, whose world is starting to crumble. And this panel has obviously gotten his goat.
Moussa turns to the Iraqis, to hector them about the Sunnis: Why are they not participating in the government, why have you left them out of the process, what are you doing to mollify them? His point seems to be that the government can’t be legitimate if the Sunnis are unhappy.
You have to understand something that I discovered at this conference: The Sunni minority in Iraq is the most important group in the world. No other minority in any other Arab country is given the time of day. And what Arab governments treat their minorities with exemplary republicanism? No, the Iraqi Sunnis are the only minority that matters. In the long, nightmare decades of Saddam — the torture and mass-grave decades — did Moussa and the Arab League care about the Kurds, the Christians, the others?
Hajim al-Hassani is the first to answer Moussa, and he actually agrees that the government should be doing more to “reach out” to the Sunnis. He then confesses that he himself is Sunni — but he doesn’t think Iraqis should give such designations, because “we should all be Iraqis, without adherence to sect or ethnicity.” There is a statement of true Arab liberalism.
And I can’t help thinking: If a Sunni is speaker of the parliament, how shut out, or disdained, can Sunnis be?
It is utterly clear to me that Iraqis, today, are like the Israelis: They are held to a higher standard than anyone else in the region. The whole Middle East swims in tyranny and autocracy. But Iraq is scrutinized for democratic perfection. They must dot every “i” and cross every “t.” They’d better get used to it — and they are, it seems.
I should note here that I have not attempted a comprehensive report, even a full summary, of this session, as I won’t of others. I have jotted down some points I regard as significant, or at least interesting.
An insurgency cannot exist without popular support. The "duly elected government" of Iraq is essentially a sham.

You are also conveniently forgetting that the Iraqis DIDN'T vote for members the previous American-installed interim government, although that was certainly one of the choices.
Even though the Sunnis mainly boycotted the election, they will be getting proportionate representation while the Constitution is being written. This representation was achieved by Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds working together AS IRAQIS.
It seems that many in the Muslim world are hoping that Iraq descends into chaos and war, instead of becoming a functional, properous democracy. One has to ask why. Is it because happy, free, prosperous people are less likely to subscribe to a totalitarian ideology?

You didn't respond to the comment by the Sunni Iraqi Minister that most of the terrorists are NOT IRAQIS.

That doesn't sound like much of an "insurgency" to me.
"An insurgency cannot exist without popular support. The "duly elected government" of Iraq is essentially a sham."
Of course, the government has substantially more support, since the majority of the population voted in the election and have become part of the democratic process.
Perhaps the insurgents, since Iraq is no longer so amenable to them, should move on to someplace their hatred is accepted - Saudi Arabia or Pakistan, for example.

Might want to consider that the majority of the population is under 18. My statement stands: the current insurgency in Iraq cannot function without public support. Read the AAR's of US officers in the field. They constantly say how local Iraqi's know who is planting the IED's and carrying out the attacks but they ain't telling no Occupier...
None of the above countries are being Occupied. Then again, none of those countries have any oil...
You cannot expect Occupied/Subjugated people to hold a "free" election. The election was essentially a brilliant Occupier exercise in puppetry. Note how incompetent the current "elected" government is...
The people voted in the election in an attempt to get the Occupiers kicked out. However they have found out that their government is pretty incompetent...perhaps deliberately so since the Occupier has every interest in a weak government that will enable them to continue their looting of Iraqi wealth...

The reliance by the "insurgency" on suicide bombing that primarily targets Iraqis who do not support them is a pretty fair indication of how unpopular and desparate the "insurgency" actually is, and not the incompetence of the Iraqi government and the Coalition forces.
And unlike you, the rest of the bloggers have no delusions as to who is funding the "insurgency" and recruiting the bombers (among them cases of Down's Syndrome) and their purpose in doing so.

At this moment, there's a press conference for the ministers of defense and interior in Baghdad and they're shedding light on a new security campaign called "The Thunderbolt" they mentioned that the campaign will focus on securing Baghdad and eliminating terror activities through "exceptional" security measures.
The ministers announced that this "huge campaign" will include the deployment of 40,000* Iraqi police and army men.
The 1st phase of the campaign shall be launched next week and a "powerful ring" of security forces will be created around Baghdad.
The minister of interior added more details; Baghdad will be divided into two sectors; western and eastern sectors and each sector will in turn be divided into a number of sub-sectors (7 in the east and 15 in the west) I guess this is because the western part is larger in size and relatively witnessing higher rates of violence.
"There will be 675 fixed checkpoints distributed all over the city as well as hundreds of mobile patrols" said the minister of interior.
Answering a question from a reporter about if this campaign is going to be limited to Baghdad only, the minister of defense said "We intend to start working on securing Baghdad next week and we have plans to expand the operations soon after to deal with the terrorists in all other cities".
He also confirmed that contacts were made with the ministry of justice which promised to provide a sufficient number of judges and interrogators to interrogate the expected detainees and to put them on trial when enough evidence are found.
By the way, this campaign seems to be the same one I read about two days ago and talked about in yesterday's post.
The minister of interior also gave a short briefing on the latest achievements of the operations carried out by the Iraqi forces between May 22 and May 26; he said that 578* suspects were arrested in Abu Ghraib, 4 large caches of weapons found, 118 vehicles prepared for car-bomb attacks were destroyed (between April 15 and May 26*) and 6 million dollars confiscated when a terror cell was arrested in Baghdad.
The last defense minister's last words were "it's time to move from defense to offense".
