My point was, and is, that our government has no intention of protecting the citizenry, or of attempting any kind of meaningful resistance to the conquest of the country. You might also address the fact that our young men and women are dying for no discernible purpose in Iraq and Afghanistan, which both are or will become Islamic states.

Terrorist leader Sami Al Arian opposed The Patriot Act too.Frontpage magazine had a story about various anti-terrorist legislative measures Al Arian opposed. My litmus test for the effectiveness of anti-terrorism measures is whether or not muslims oppose them. Muslims are opposed to The Patriot Act and Gitmo that tells me the both the legislation and the POW camp are effective and needed.

My 80 year old dad is pretty warm, gentle and kind, too.
When I was growing up, he couldn't afford to send me to ANY summer camp, let alone one half the way around the world.
But Baby Huie's daddy, the ice cream man, scrimped and saved so he and his boy could take a little trip outside the U.S. two years ago (to the tune of over $28,000). Well, most everyone likes a vacation, and what folks do with their hard earned money is pretty much their business, until one forgets to declare amounts over $10,000 when either leaving from or arriving in the country. So, as I understand it, the Feds confiscated $27,000 of it (don't know if it was ever returned).
That's irritating enough. But the timeframe is really troubling.
While other 20 year old Americans were dying in Afghanistan and Iraq, Baby Huie, born and raised in the good old US of A, was at 'camp' in Pakistan. And daddy was sending him $100 a month (beans and bullets?). I'm not sure how the family's lawyer will try to explain away their complementary confessions, and the aknowledged monthly stipend.
Other questions abound, starting with daddy's reasons for sending his boy to Camp Jihad. And let's hope the media gets a few interviews with some of Baby Huie's high school classmates.
With the right motivation, this could become THE highly publicized case needed to expose Islam's goals, and the dirty little secrets that Baby Huie, the ice cream man, and a couple of Imams have been hiding from their infidel neighbors (their Muslim neighbors probably already knew).
But let's hope none of this happens until after Micheal Jackson's trial is over. We don't want the general public to be distracted.

It's the same country, Norseman, but it is a little different than you may like. 911 changed everything, the rooting out of terrorists on US soil generated the Patriot Act. I am not in love with it entirely, but it has been effective in fighting terrorism. When we have lots of time and nothing to do, we can take on gov abuses and excesses. Right now, we have to confront the menance that is right in our faces, in real time. Islam and it's jihadic/terroristic tendancies. As a good liberal, you would probably rather arrest G.Bush than Zarqawi.

The aspect of the revised Patriot Act about "non judge-issued subpeona searches" will fail. It is clearly against the 4th Amendment. I'll be kicking the asses of all of my respresentatives until it fails. All the way to the Supreme Court if necessary.
The rest of the provisions in the Act are common sense wartime necessities, but any renewal should include a 'time limit' (2 or 4 year expiration) built-in, as the present version has.
The people, in general, in the U.S. are basically ornery and like a fight, and are just waiting to get royally pissed off by a WMD attack. It will take this level of damage before they rouse from the "religion of peace" daydream that is now lulling everyone. With absurd assistance by Bush and Rice.
