What's this? A European official showing some backbone (no doubt the Iranians will be praying, "May Allah rip out his spine") and asking for common courtesy? Sack him! "No beer? No lunch!," from Reuters, with thanks to Twostellas and Mr. Tickle:
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - A lunch meeting between a leading parliamentarian in Belgium and counterparts from Iran has been canceled because the beer-loving Belgian could not stomach a ban on alcohol."Even for the tolerant Herman De Croo, that was a bridge too far," De Croo, a Dutch-speaking Liberal, told De Standaard daily Thursday.
De Croo, president of parliament's lower house, had been due to entertain the speaker and members of the Iranian parliament Friday during their visit to Belgium -- famous for its diversity of beer brands.
But he said lunch had been canceled because the Iranians, who as Muslims do not drink alcohol, wanted their hosts to do the same.
"I did not receive such demands in writing. But ... I was indirectly asked not to serve alcohol," said De Croo.
Herman DeCroo, I will forthwith proceed to hoist my own adult beverage in your honor.
The visit ran into further trouble after Iran's parliament speaker Gholamali Haddadadel insisted he would not shake hands with the female president of Belgium's Senate.Anne-Marie Lizin, a Socialist, then canceled their meeting. She said in a statement that Iranians should respect local customs in Belgium, just as Belgians should in Iran.
Indeed.
Here is an idea: the next time a European diplomat travels to Iran (or to any Muslim country) let us demand that alcohol be served during the meal.
Reciprocity - no more, no less.
I have nothing but a large mug of coffee available right now. But I will gladly raise it and offer it as though it were the best Belgian yellow stuff, to Mr.De Croo and his stand for mere good manners! Since when do guests impose their preferences upon host?
Hopeful
Good for the Belgians. I am certain, that as thoughtful hosts, they would have offered non-alcoholic beverages as well at the luncheon. This reminds me of my father-in-law's second wife who demanded that I remove a picture from the wall in my home because the childhood photo of my husband also included his father and his mother. Maybe it won't be the terrorism issues that get the Europeans back to reality about the Muslims in their midst. Maybe it will be the very small things, like demands for no alcohol at luncheons, no alcohol served at outdoor cafes, and the refusal to shake a hand because the hand belongs to a woman. I can only hope so...
Could it be? Why yes I believe it is the tiniest spark of 'rethink' from the famous Belgian dhimmis. Woops, it went out.
This is exactly why I'll never visit a Mosque, there are too many Muslims there and
it's offensive to my faith that I would have to
bow down to their RULES in order to enter the building. I do not support segragation of females and forcing people to practise Islam by proxy, costumes and rituals look nice but how you treat others is what separates us from the animals.
Why, oh why do they have to go hysterical at even the sight of beer or pork. Is anyone forcing them to partake of it? Are they afraid that the very sight of it would tempt them so much they would gorge themselves. That's why they put women in black sacks also. They are not taught self-discipline and virtue (their version of it) has to be imposed from without.
sometimes i think the schitzo logic evidenced in the example of what courtesies the fascists expect and what they will extend is one of the more useful tools we have
Beer is in the bible and is proof GOD loves us and wants us to be happy. This is base level proof Islam is evil.
Robert,
I see your "adult beverage" and raise you a Heineken.
I had my old buddy Mahmoud, the Iranian president elect, over for kabobs the other day. He asked that I not serve beer, as the mere sight of a cold, frosty one is an insult to devout, pious Muslims. So, I agreed.
We had a great time, and he's invited me over to his pad. I thought it over and sent a list to him of things I'd rather he not do while I'm in his country, as the mere thought of them insults every rational human on this planet we share:
No FGM
No Stonings
No Hangings
No Floggings
No No beheadings
I'm awaiting his response.
the Belgian government should have supported this woman and cancelled ALL meetings with these people.
they are allowing these moslams to marginalize European women
they don't respect our culture and our people and we allow them to disrespect our women?
Last week those same anal rententive party poopers canceled a dinner with members of the Dutch Second Chamber (sorta like the house of commons) because their request to not have wine served to anybody during the dinner was denied.
A quote from this article
www.elsevier.nl/nieuws/politiek/nieuwsbericht/asp/artnr/51259/versie/1/
(translation is mine):
"The president of the permanent Second Chamber committee fo foreign Affairs, the christian-democrate Henk de Haan didn't think for a second about granting the Iranian demands: 'We invited them, so they should keep to our rules.' When one is visiting one also accepts veiled women and the fact a glass of wine is a nono."
Erratum:
'When one is visiting one...'
should read
'When one is visiting in Iran, one...'
Sorry!
This is a perfect example of how tolerance is a one way street with so many Muslims. Nobody is forcing them to drink alcohol or eat pork. Good for the Belgians, though, and given my intense hostility, as a Brit, to the EU, that is difficult for me to say.
The issue of not shaking hands with a woman is more serious, as women's rights are so often sacrificed on the altar of multiculturalism. On another blog, a Canadian guy said that, where he works, women have been told as a matter of policy not to be offended if an Arab/Muslim won't shake their hand.
Well this woman would be very offended indeed, and tempted to say, 'Why not, have you been wiping you arse with it?'.
Diversity, eh. What a pile of crap.
Isn't there anything in the koran that forbids them to live North of Mekka? That passage could prove useful should it exist.
So America is derided for Gitmo where we bend over backwards to accommodate muslim’s sensibilities, but one European tart throws a wobbler because he thinks it’s bullocks he won’t get his daily influx of alcohol and he is lauded for it.
Fucking al-Reuters, fucking Europeans.
That'll teach those bad Iranians -- Wow -- it's really amazing to see this EU soft power in action!! They are right in Europe when they criticize us for going around with guns and stuff to make these guys behave... All it takes is a luncheon cancellation, and wham -- they're never going to make those nukes now... The Iranians have finally had their comeuppance -- it must really sting!!!
What did the Iranians want instead?
Glasses of blood?
The Belgians can provide that at the next luncheon, to make their guests really feel at home.
Now if he'd poured a beer over the koran I might be impressed...
poor things, up to your knees in muslims, like a turtle on its back...
at least it's a start.
Pardon my crudeness:
Maybe handshakes are out but something else must be in. No?
Thank you so much Shy Guy.
Yes, it is in bad taste to be celebrating, but your link does make me very very happy.
I hope that the AIDS vaccine isn't invented until the last muslim is dead.
Sorry if that's over the top, but that's how I feel.
I think that westerners will only wake up to the Islamic threat, when something comes between them and their alcohol.
Ar last..., socialists standing up to the barbarians, this story made my day, because it was not just one event, there was two.
shy guy:
how long before the "religion of pieces" realizes that the AIDS epidemic is actually a plot by the GREAT SATAN and the ZIONAZI JOOOOOOS to decimate the pious and bring low the faithful.
Hell, everything else is our fault.
if we could just keep the explosives and sharp objects out of their hands long enough, they will self destruct because of their infantile habit of refusing to accept responsibility for their own conditions and actions. as long as you blame others, you don't have to make any effort to improve yourself, so you decay, and decay, and decay....
OT. Two news items from Italy:
1) Mr.Berlusconi has summoned the American ambassador (in diplomatic practice this is the third worst demonstration of displeasure, short of withdrawing one's ambassador "for consultations" or withdrawing them altogether) over the matter of the abducted Egyptian preacher. The Italian cabinet has flatly stated that they knew nothing of the CIA operation and had never been asked permission, thus contradicting American statements. It is the second time in three months - after the Callipari inquiry - that official Italian statements give the US the lie direct, and it represents a serious crisis in Italian-American relationships.
2) The Italian police has uncovered an illegal network of what might be best described as pretend spies, whose game seems to have been to represent themselves to various international bodies as experts in Islamic terrorism and getting financed to investigate it. These people, most of whose lower ranks seem to have been in good faith, were led by a notorious Fascist leader, freemason master and former Gladio man called Gaetano Saya. They had no connection with the Italian authorities, but managed to recruit a certain number of policemen. One rumour is that the murdered hostage Quattrocchi may have been a member, which would place his death in quite a different light and help explain why none of the Italian authorities wished to be present at Quattrocchi's funeral.
(It must be remembered, however, that nothing can take from Quattrocchi the glory of the way he died - "I'll show you how an Italian can die". Whether or not he was a member of an illegal spy network rather than a professional armed guard, that was the way a man ought to go.)

The Iranian's are operating from the viewpoint that they have dominion over everyone else by virtue of their religion and therefore their customs and traditions must be followed by everyone everywhere they go.
These arrogant misanthropes need to be slapped down every time they try to strong arm people into following their idiotic religious customs under the guise of respect. Muslims think respect is a one way street. It is not.
We have insane morons that won’t shake a woman’s hand because it “defiles” them, developing nuclear weapons. Isn’t that reassuring?
Since when do guests impose their preferences upon host?
All the time if you are an arrogant Mohammedan. And most especially when his nation, Iran, is reaping untold oil riches these days. The higher the petroleum price the more arrogant the ummah becomes. These unearned oil riches are seen as Allah bestowing great wealth upon them.
Let them be arrogant -- They have nothing to offer the world and everyone knows it... The accident of oil is their greatest curse (Allah is a pervert God...)-- It convinces them that they are superior, can sit on their arses and rake it in... let them continue that foolishness...
'A fool and his money are soon parted'
Now in cultural and political terms, "soon" can mean decades or centuries, but Muslims are DOOMED. On some level they know this though they are in complete denial -- The same thing could have been said of communisim and socialism -- These are systems which only could advance and sustain themselves by force and oppression -- ultimately the effort required to prop up such fatally flawed systems will drag them further and further behind the rest of humanity
The balancing act we're playing with them is : Can they forcibly destroy us before they destroy themselves ? I doubt it. Let them rot in their oil revenues -- the lazier and more complacent they become, the closer they are to annihilation... We should also be doing everything in our power to stir up their ubiquitous tribal hatreds -- let's get them all slaughtering each other (even more than they already are!) -- they're really good at it, it wouldn't be nearly so costly as trying to salvage their sewer culture and relgion, and it would expedite their ultimate collapse..!
We should also be doing everything in our power to stir up their ubiquitous tribal hatreds
I really don't think that is needed. They do a much better job of it themselves.
They should be isolated and ignored. Let them practice whatever horrible rites their death worship demands amongst themselves until their stupid idea of a religion is reduced to myth.
Each day I learn something new about Muslims and Islam in general that both sickens and scares me.
I think Tommy Cruise should take his Scientology tents to Iran and clear those wogs out. (giggles incessantly)
