"Religion has no place in crematorium, says council," from the Timesonline, with thanks to Granny Weatherwax:
A COUNCIL-RUN crematorium has been criticised by clergymen and funeral directors for removing a wooden cross from its chapel for fear of offending non-Christians.Torbay Council in Devon is accused of taking political correctness too far by removing the 5ft-tall gilt cross from the wall of the old chapel in the municipal crematorium.
It also anounced that the chapel would in future be known as the ceremony hall...
Alan Faulkner, Torbay Council's executive member for Environmental Services, defended the decision to remove the cross. He said: "We live in a diverse, multi-faith society and many people have no specific beliefs at all. The facility at Torquay Crematorium is a ceremony hall, it is not a chapel."...
But the Rev Anthony Macey, the vicar of nearby Cockington, said: "That cross has been in the chapel for nearly 50 years. I am very angry about this. Calling the chapel a ceremony hall is ridiculous. It has been the chapel since the crematorium was built."...
Father Paul Connor, the Roman Catholic priest for Brixham, said: "It would have been wiser and more politic of the council to consult undertakers and the clergy before they did this.
"If the cross offends people they can cover it up. What about the Christians who are offended by its removal?"
Indeed. When the Saudis begin to remove public signage in the Kingdom that says "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his Prophet" for fear of offending Christians, then we'll talk.
A backlash is inevitable. Backlash? Nay, 'Revolution' is the word.
This multiculti/PC/leftist slogans will someday have gone way too far for way too may people.
My only fear is that the steady onslaught of PC-ness not overwhelm that revolution into ignition failure.
Brits - world knows you're civlized
However - time to wake up has come
Refuse "PC"!!
The sign " There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his Prophet" is already displayed in a prominent place at the entrance to our town.
I find this highly offensive!!
How much longer before we are asked not to sing in our large congregation as this might "incite religious hatred".
Welcome to dhimmi Britain!!
"The sign " There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his Prophet" is already displayed in a prominent place at the entrance to our town"
Sencit A similar sign appeared outside a mosque in the town where I was brought up. This was around the time of my fathers last illness so I was visiting daily but had little spare time for local affairs. It said,
God is Only one, He has no son
I know I also found it very, very offensive. Like, I can tolerate other peoples beliefs but that is a smack in the face too far. Anyway, suddenly it disappeared. Because I was too involved in my family at that time I never found out how, who and why. But someone must have made a protest, put on some pressure. It was quite a few years ago however, and of course whenever I visit the cemetery now I don't know what the arabic sign I pass by says.
Back to the story this is another local comment " a funeral director, also condemned the council’s decision to remove the cross. He said: “Nobody from the council or the crematorium stopped to think. It is a chapel. It was dedicated as a Christian chapel by the bishop at the time.”
And I would think that that would settle it, were it not that I once had a complaint by a mother who attended (just the once, she never came back again ) the church toddler club I help run. She objected to our having a cross and saying some short prayers. What did she expect in a church hall, from an openly Christian group?
Granny: as you know perfectly well, the British elite has been trying to get rid of Christianity for about a hundred years. Multiculturalism is an excuse, not the reason. Why they should be so bothered by the belief in the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, Heaven knows, but the long-term educational policy of Britain since at least 1907 (and I think you can reckon back as far as the odious Lord Russell, in the 1850s - the same man who allowed the Irish to starve in their millions) has been dedicated to uprooting the historic religion of the country. Where Christianity is concerned, the British elite has long had the attitude and toleration of, say, Hitler, though it has been rather more delicate in its ways.
The same is true for France, Germany, and Scandinavia. It is not true that Christianity has died away in Europe; it has deliberately been uprooted - perhaps because the politicians, having an itch to be moral leaders as well as bosses, felt some kind of professional jealousy for the priests.
Muslims cremate their dead?
"Muslims cremate their dead?"
They do not, it is forbidden. As far as I know Hinduism requires it, but Judaism and Islam prohibit it. If anyone is going to get upset at crosses in crematoria, it is not Muslims. Again I'm left wondering, why is this on Dhimmiwatch?
While I'm here, the idea that we should take cues from the Saudis on how to run our countries is just laughable. I'm of the opinion that government facilities should be neutral on religion.

Your hysterics give you away.
Your limited ability to debate issues give you away. Your kitman/taqiyya gives you away.
You make no point. You are calling me racist without knowing what race I am.
You are calling me religious bigot without knowing whether I am religious or an atheist.
You are repeating the same lines (and lies) too often not to be a Mohammedan.
You are calling me 'xenophobic' without knowing that my family and my business spans worldwide and includes many nationalities and different races.
Your history is too selective for you not to be a Mohammedan.
Make sure you use UHU to glue your coffee-filter to your head and be sure not to fart when you prey to Mekka!
The recent case of the Luton school girl behind whom was an extremist fundamentalist group which is banned in most parts of Europe and the Middle East is an example of how Muslims can use laws to flout even a simple rule like school uniform. This case cost the taxpayer £70,000 and there is even some talk of this girl receiving damages which will fund the extremist group who are using her. The future scenario of a British writer like Rushdie not only having a fatwa issued against him but of doing time in a UK jail, is definitely on the cards.
