What could they have done if they had gotten there sooner? Put the defaced Qur'an on life support? Pounded its chest and brought it back to life? Come on. Police should leave the scenes of burglaries and fights in order to rush to the scene of a torn-up book?
A Muslim holy book was found yesterday covered with flies, with a torn-out page mashed into what appeared to be feces and burned around the edges.
The Koran was discovered on a doorstep about noon by an Islamic man who lives nearby in the LeNore Garden Apartments complex. He was walking to his home in the community, largely populated by Islamic immigrants from Somalia. A neighbor told police the book had been on the steps since at least 5 p.m. Tuesday...
How did the neighbor know that? And why is this story being written as if what was discovered was a murder victim?
"It's in the heart of every Muslim. We respect and we love (the Koran) more than our families," said Ab-dishakur Ibrahim, imam of the Al-Farooq mosque. "I don't know why anyone would do this. I can't comprehend it."
About a dozen Muslim men waited outside 647 Crutcher St. throughout the afternoon, taking breaks from their watch only to pray and to notify other friends.
Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime and are consulting the FBI. A suspect could be charged with misdemeanor desecration of a venerated object or civil rights intimidation, which can be a felony or misdemeanor charge, said Metro police Capt. Mike Hagar. The district attorney would make a decision whether to pursue criminal charges....
Funny thing: we never heard about that "misdemeanor desecration of a venerated object" when somebody was selling a consecrated host on Ebay. Ebay initially stuck to its guns, insisting that it was a legal sale. Funny how nobody pointed out this little misdemeanor offense.
Here's the delay story: "Islamic leaders disturbed by delayed police response," also from the Tennessean:
Islamic leaders said they notified police six times yesterday before officers arrived at the site of a Koran desecration. Police said the delay was due to an unforeseen number of higher-priority calls, including a burglary and a fight involving an officer."We can't pick when the calls come in. We have to take the high priorities as they come," Metro police Capt. Mike Hagar said.
Three men, including two Islamic religious leaders, phoned for police help throughout the afternoon after a first call at about 2:45 p.m. Three hours after that call, and after a Tennessean reporter told the Police Department spokesman of the delay, police arrived.
Spokesman Don Aaron said the communications system had no record of the 2:45 p.m. call and that the first call that the 911 center received came in at 3:46 p.m. No police units were available at that time, he added, so officers were dispatched at 4:53 p.m. But as police headed to the scene, they were pulled off to deal with a break-in that was in progress.
The call about the damaged Koran was entered into the system as a "Code 1," or routine call, and other calls superseded it. Islamic leaders said police apologized to them for the delay, though it was little comfort.
Police "did not respond in an appropriate manner to this incident," Abdulhakim Ali Mohamed, imam of the Islamic Center of Nashville, said to a crowd of Muslims. "Regardless of their excuse, you need to let them know that you, as a citizen, will not accept that."
Since when is a dirty book a police matter? Why should the police bother with looking at dirty books?

This is scary to me! The Islamic Center of Nashville is 4 blocks from my house. It's interesting, but I never see any activity at that building any more.
In all fairness, after 9/11 they put a note on their message board out front (that always said something for years - even though I never paid much attention) publicly denouncing the attacks. A few weeks later all the letters were taken down and it's been left empty ever since. Spooky silence ...
Lets see a charge of "desecration of a venerated object" land in court. What happened to freedom of speech. Islam is the ACLU's religion of choice, so they would have no problem with that as long as it protects muslims.

As the death toll rises in Iraq, members of one Nashville mosque are speaking out against the war -- and they're doing it in a public way.
The sign in front of the Islamic Center of Nashville now reads "Enough Killing, Enough Revenge, Stop the War."

One time at work a guy that loved to check out my lunch items just happened to see a package of cookies I bought to take home and the price was really low at the store where I got them on my break,we both had two packs and I share one

I suggested to Georgia-Pacific that they start a program having Americans send them money to subsidize the cost of printing millions of copies of the Koran on their Quilted Northern brand, then air ship it to Iraq for distribution to the troops freebies: the goodwill they would have encountered among patriotic Americans would have been enormous. Hugh, this attitude of theirs was what prompted this desecration incident in the first place. Americans are wising up, and so much the better.
It would have been much better if this desecrated Koran were left at the doorstep of Ibrahim Hooper. The Somalis are not significant "players" in the jihadist designs of CAIR and Saudi Arabia for the U.S.

At work one day they were having a clear out in the postroom during which a Bangaldeshi Muslim through a copy of the Bible in the bin.
Someone then said 'Don't do that, it's our holy book' and someone else put it in his bag to take home. This was done without rioting or death threats. This story did not appear on the news or in the papers and the High Commissioner for Bangladesh did not make a statement about respecting each other's faith.
A few weeks ago there was a leaflet through the door from the police about when to call 999(our 911) and when to just call the local police station.
The gist of it was that you should only ring 999 when a crime is actually being committed or it's an emergency.
Also they ask you to use a landline rather than a mobile if possible as this costs them so much money. The man in the picture from the Tennessee site is holding a mobile.
Burning the Qur'an is free speech (like burning the US flag, which incidentally is illegal in TN), but doing it anonymously on somebody else's property is intimidation and shouldn't be tolerated. Leaving a desecrated Qur'an on the doorstep of a Muslim home is no better than placing a burning cross on the front lawn of a black home.

The imam hangs out with the somalis as they are more militant than the Kurds, another large group in Nashville. The imam also likes the muslims of the americas who have a compound in Dover, about 40 miles from the city. The moa has a jihadi group, al fuqra, that loves car bombings and identity theft. Their leader is Sheik Jilani, the man Daniel Pearl wanted to interview in Pakistan.
After 9/11, the libraries in Nashville were filled with young arab men on the computers looking for instructions.
All this information and more has been sent to the local newspapers and DHS/FBI officials. The newspapers of course ignored it.
What a waste of the police's time and the taxpayers' dollars? Some feces on a book? So what? A hate crime? Give me a break!

If you read the Koran it says to try and convert everyone to Islam with love and kindness if this does not work and the person still does not come to Islam then you are to kill this person. This is what we are up against. We let these Muslims in our country and make them citizens and give them grants and help them even more than our on.. If one of us should go to Saudi Arabia and call the police about the Holy Bible like this Nashville call about the Koren it would probably be considered blasphemy against Islam and the caller could very well lose their head. i would only suggest that we ban islam, on the grounds of subversion and sedition, and also ban the koran. it is no secret that islam wants to take over the government of every country that islam enters, and that islam wants only to dominate and not be equal to any other religion.
if we banned islam and closed the mosques, then these incidents of koran desecration would not happen because there would be no korans.

This incident was set up by the brotherhood. The koran was in arabic. Hard to imagine anyone in Nashville(the buckle on the Bible belt) with an arabic koran but the muslims. And it would be hard to steal one. Any infidel would use an english translation, easily obtainable at any bookstore. This was an act of jihad.
I'm with those who say this could have been done on purpose by a Muslim. It's all of a sudden so trendy to rant and rave over desecrated Korans. They saw the reaction over the Newsweek lie, so they use the lie to their advantage. They see how the West grovels and apologizes, thanks to Ms. Rice. They get off on that. They love it when the West grovels to Islam. That's the way it's supposed to be, in a Muslim's mind.
