In unofficially translated news from the Netherlands Trouw:
Amsterdam - Secretary de Geus of Social Affairs withdraws 200.000 euros subsidiaries from the Salvation Army. The Army refuses to hire two muslimas who are currently employed as volunteers for one of their projects. The Army only hires Christians. De Geus has, so he says, insisted in vain on a solution. "It is a pity the Salvation Army does not want to hire the women after all."The Army wanted to employ the muslimas elsewhere, so they could be "detached" to work on the Army project. Lieutenant-Colonel Ine Voorham of the Army was happy with this solution. "We could have helped them to get started".
According to the director of Welfare & Health of the Salvation Army in Dordrecht, Harry de Heer, is adapting the hiring policy no option.
Secretary De Geus does not want to use the term "religious discrimination". He does say the Salvation Army disregards the agreement that it must hire "allochtone" (not original Dutch) women per 1 July 2005. Lt.-Colonel Voorham says she will appeal against the withdrawal.
I am always reminded how helpfull the Salvation Army volunteers where in assisting my father after he was seriously injured in the Phillipines during WW II. He Never forgot the train ride from San Francisco too the Great Lakes Navy hospital near Chicago. The Salvation Army volunteers where there for him all the way and their care and thoughtfullness made his heart soar and it gave him the strength to deal with the painfull injuries that have been with him 60 years as of July 12th of this year. Because of this,my parents and I have always made generous donations to the Salvation Army every year.
If you have got some clothes that you don't need anymore , please consider giving them to your local Savation Army store, This is truly a great CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATION.
The Salvation Army is a truly international movement, sharing in the mission of Christ for the salvation and transformation of the world. Its members are at worship and at work in over a hundred countries.
The Salvation Army began in 1865 when William Booth, a London minister, gave up the comfort of his pulpit and decided to take his message into the streets where it would reach the poor, the homeless, the hungry and the destitute.
Booth decided to found a church especially for them — the East London Christian Mission. The mission grew slowly, but Booth's faith in God remained undiminished.
In May of 1878, Booth summoned his son, Bramwell, and his good friend George Railton to read a proof of the Christian Mission's annual report. At the top it read: THE CHRISTIAN MISSION is A VOLUNTEER ARMY. Bramwell strongly objected to this wording. He was not a volunteer: he was compelled to do God's work. So, in a flash of inspiration, Booth crossed out "Volunteer" and wrote "Salvation". The Salvation Army was born.
By the 1900s, the Army had spread around the world. The Salvation Army operated 3,000 service units for the armed forces, which led to the formation of the USO.
Today, The Salvation Army is stronger and more powerful than ever. Now, in over 106 nations around the world, The Salvation Army continues to work where the need is greatest, guided by faith in God and love for all people
This is a Christian Organization which requires its employees to be sympathetic to basic Christian values.
I reckon these women were 'plants', testing the water!
This isn't rocket science. The Christian arm of the Salvation Army would be phased out so that Muslims co-opt its programs for the purposes of Da'wa.
There's two ways the Dutch can play this, and either way will result in a posting on Dhimmiwatch:
"Dutch withdraw funds from Christian group who won't hire Muslims"
or
"Dutch giving funds to Muslim group who won't hire Jews"
As long as the Dutch are consistent in their policy, and no Muslim groups who won't hire non-Muslims get government funding, then I see no problem. How is it dhimmitude to have a policy of secular government? The Muslims in Holland pay taxes too.
Hey,I know how they feel,I wanted to be a Rabbi
but when I applied they said I had to be Jewish.
My rights were violated and religous groups should lose the charity status and be cut off all Government funding. Taxpayers won't mind the new costs for social programs that take over the care of aids victims, homeless, alchoholics, drug abuser, and run soup kitchen, street outreach for teens, senior home care, christmas food baskets to
low income families and all the other free foreign aid by volunteers sponsored by Churches
to send them to Africa and the Carribian.
Sally Anne should stick to preaching about Gods love and the compassion of Christ, let the Goverment handle the actual care-giving that will
create jobs to help the capitalistic consumerism
so the taxes can go up to cover the new socialist
society.
Time to support the Salvation Army, and make sure that any tax breaks available, are used.
The S.A. is the only charity to which I donate. Thats because I have seen the good they do with my own eyes and witnessed their caring and compassion for less fortunate people.
Question: Why on earth would any Muslim wish to join this strictly Christian organisation - founded by Christians, following Christian precepts and heavy on Bible reading.
Answer: they wouldnt.
This looks like a plan to bring down yet another Christian organisation and clear the way for Muslims to take over. What will their first step be, banning crosses because they make Muslims feel 'uncomfortable'?
How many Christians have applied to join organisations like Green Crescent - and would they be allowed to join if they did apply?
The S.A should stand firm on this point.
I wrote an email to the minister of Social Affairs in the Netherlands protesting the withdrawal of the subsidie. I think some international protests could help.
The minister is called De Geus and I have the following emailadress:
info@minszw.nl
Note that not only christian organisations are subsidized but also p.e. muslimorganisations (as far as I know these are not involved in activities as the SA but are just "selfpromoting", not work for others but themselves). I never heared or seen any other "sort of people" then muslims employed by these muslimorganisations.
And yes, I think the girls were a plant, the SA had found a way to employ them without being the employer formally. Thus, if these girls really wanted to help people, they could have done it.
What I find incredible is this: in Italy, at least, the Sally Army is classed as a Church and has a regular concordat with the Italian state. As a Church, it would not even occur to Italian officials to interfire with its hiring practices, and it would be quite simply obvious that it would only hire people of its own faith. Is it different in Holland? Does the SA not count as an independent religious body? Or do Dutch laws allow the State to impose a Muslim Cardinal on the Catholic Church and a Muslim Chief Rabbi on the Jewish community if they want?
Paolo,
I do not know how the SA is classified in The Netherlands, I do not think as a church (which gives al kinds of taxadvances).
The state can not force a private body to employ anyone, but, who pays the piper, plays the tune, it can deceide not to subsidize institutions that only hires certain (in this case christian) people. Havng said this: I never heared of a muslimorganization (and there are a lot that get subsidy) forced to hire other people then muslims. It is all very strange, that is why (a liberal atheist myself) I wrote to the minister on behlaf of the SA. I have the feeling that international attention could help to redress this very dishounest and discriminating decession of the minister.
