AMSTERDAM — A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Amsterdam as part of the investigation into a suspected Muslim terror group in the Netherlands.
The suspect was armed with a loaded machine pistol, Justice Minister Piet Hein Donner told Parliament on Thursday.
Donner said the man of Moroccan ancestry has been of interest to the police since November 2004, the month filmmaker Theo van Gogh was assassinated in Amsterdam.
He is suspected of being a member of the Hofstadgroep, described by the police as a terrorist organisation.
The suspect was sitting in a car with two women aged 21 and 26. Both of them were also detained and are suspected of involvement in a terrorist organisation, the minister said.
Apart from the machine pistol — a mini machine gun — police also found two filled ammunition clips, a silencer and a box with 14 rounds of ammunition...
The arrests in Amsterdam, Donner said, were connected to the detention of a 32-year-old Dutchman by police in London on Wednesday.
This older man was arrested at the request of the Dutch authorities. He is wanted for questioning in relation to the investigation into the Hofstadgroep.
Several young Muslim men are in custody in the Netherlands on charges of belonging to the suspected terror group and planning attacks in the Netherlands...
While the Dutch authorities have declined to talk about the suspicions against him, Scotland Yard in London has revealed the man is suspected of recruiting people for terrorist activities. He is also suspected of involvement with firearms and falsification of documents.

London needs 2,000 more Muslim police -- Commissioner
London needs another 2,000 Muslim police officers, Britain's most senior police officer said Thursday. London Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair also defended the rise in stop and search of Muslim suspects and said they would continue. In an interview with the "Muslim News" newspaper, Sir Ian said "What I really need is more Muslim police officers. "We've got 200 to 300 members in the Muslim Police Association. I want as many as I can get. "If something like one-in-nine Londoners is a Muslim than I want one-in-nine police officers to be a Muslim. Which means we are currently 2,000 short." Figures released last February showed that the number of searches under the UK Terrorism Act 2000 rose 36 percent to 29,400 in 2003/04. Of these, 12.5 percent involved Asians, even though they make up just 4.7 percent of the population in England and Wales. Sir Ian said "The percentages are actually involving numbers less than 10 people a day out of a Muslim population of 700,000 and a million in London. He said "The intelligence reports that I see and my colleagues and security services see tell us that there is a credible threat." Earlier this year his predecessor Sir John Stevens claimed there are possibly more than 200 al Qaida-trained terrorists walking the streets of Britain. Sir Ian said "the jury is out" on whether his officers would start to record the religion of stop and search suspects. "It's an ongoing debate. I'm not persuaded, this seems a very intrusive question to me".

An Egyptian Christian was released from mental hospital following international pressure over his five-month forcible commitment to the mental hospital, and being charged from apostasy from Islam, Compass Direct has informed.
Gasir Mohammed Mahmoud was released on 9th June 2005 from the El-Khanka Hospital for Mental and Neurological Health in Cairo, Egypt.
However, his mother appealed to local state security police to protect her son from being killed, which resulted in Mahmoud's subjection to seemingly endless rounds of interrogation and a series of arrests.
However, when he was transferred to a different official, who was accompanied by two Muslim sheikhs, they tried to convinced him to re-convert to Islam again.
"So he started to torture me, to pull off the nails of my toes," Mahmoud said. "Now I’m still not able to wear shoes because of the pain."
This torture continued for a further 18 days, and included stripping him naked and dousing him with ice-cold water over and over.
But his suffering was to continue as "they put me (Mahmoud) in a room without any clothes," Mahmoud recalled. "They filled the room with water, to prevent me from sleeping." During his confinement, he was beaten at times and prescribed heavy medicaments to take two times a day.
Dr. Nevine, Mahmoud's supervising physician told him he would be never able to leave unless he re-converts.

After 15 days at the Suez police station, he was brought before the Suez district attorney, facing charges from his father that his son had beaten him. “How could I do this,” Mahmoud said he asked the district attorney, “while I was being detained by the state security?”
Egyptian law forbids Muslims the right to change their official religious identity when they become Christians, although non-Muslims can freely convert to Islam and legally change their I.D. cards from Christian to Muslim.
Under the virtual impunity of emergency law regulations, officers of Egypt’s State Security Investigation regularly harass, interrogate and arrest Muslim citizens suspected to have converted to Christianity.

Sydney - Australian counter-terrorism officers raided several homes after an investigation revealed that Islamic extremists were planning attacks in Sydney and Melbourne, said police and reports on Thursday.
Newspapers said the famed Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, both tourist landmarks, as well as train stations and the Stock Exchange in Victoria state capital Melbourne were believed to have been among the targets.
At least six people were questioned - four in Melbourne, where four homes were raided on Wednesday, and two in Sydney.
Newspapers reported that unnamed security sources said officers of Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) had tracked a number of known extremists for more than 10 months as they made a series of road trips between the two cities.
The sources said the Sydney group had been seen using small boats to spy on the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
The reports said police believed several of the men had undergone paramilitary training in Afghanistan with the Pakistani militant group, Lashkar-e-Taiba, which Australia banned as a terrorist organisation in 2003.
Australia had already charged several Muslims under terrorism laws adopted since the September 11 attacks on the United States, at least one of them allegedly linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The Catholics have erred in the past, as have others, including Protestants, in their zeal to maintain what they considered G-ds way.
It is their admission of error that has earned my respect.

Bill in Virginia watch out - you will get the wrath of Paolo - the historian who knows his stuff, except the bits about the Catholic church straying from the Bible. As a Protestant he (with his Pope) have already dammed me to being "ignorant" and to hell (dependinf if its comming from Paolo or the Vactican).
Paolo though never seems to comment on the more recent history of the Pope being a "koran kisser".

I really fail to see what is achieved here by bashing other's religious beliefs and alienating supporters of the cause. One of the reasons Christians throughout centuries of dhimmitude in Muslim-ruled lands were so weak was because they were always at each other's throats and the Muslims played on this. It's very easy to fall into the same trap.
A while back a certain Reverend in the north of England received adverse publicity for something he wrote about Islam, to be honest I can't remember the details, and to show my support I joined his mailing list. After a while he began sending e-mails denouncing Catholicism. Call me naive, but I didn't think this was what I had signed up for. I found them offensive and told him so. He didn't apologise, but went on the offensive again. I had to ask him three times to delete me from his mailing list.
I kept wondering, what does he feel he is achieving here? He has now certainly alienated at least some of his supporters. I think we should keep our eye on the goal. We sink or swim together. (How's that for a bunch of cliches!)
Silvester I agree. But where Catholics or Protestants pander to Islam it should be shown, and not seen as internal bickering.
In Australia BOTH Catholic AND Protestant groups supported the Muslims in their action against the two Danny's re religious vilification. Evangelical Churches (frequently condemned by mainstream Churches) supported the two Christian pastors (who as infidels merely read from the Koran - and got laughter from the audience, and that's "vilifying" – ironic thing is now one of those Churches is being sued under the same laws by a witch because that church said Wiccan was evil!)
We have also had combined services with BOTH Catholic AND Protestant church leaders WITH the Muslims. Again, a travesty that needs to be shown. On the upside, not all in those Churches agree (take that wonderful Catholic actor - Mel Gibson, who maintains his Catholicism, but is critical of the Vatican where it is justified).
Those who consort with the enemy are either ignorant or willing traitors. They need to be exposed, but only where they are wrong (in this case if they are for Islam). Maybe that’s not happening above.
As for putting people off - that's like Giaor's argument. Surely people can read and think for themselves?? If they stop reading straight away when offended, then yes its a loss, but then again, it shows that they cannot think for themselves, and would easily swallow Islamic propaganda no matter what.
After all - this is a blog - and as the warning says above - you could get offended.

SOOOO True. From all that I have read on the subject - I've come to the conclusion that it has always been mostly the leaders fighting over 'members' [it does bring in the money]
Jealousies also play a part.
Islam seems to have the exact same propblems [but not as many divisions as 'Christianity' has]
The bottom line is this:
No Christian has more authority than the New Testament.
No Muslim has more authority than their Koran.
There are no Scriptures [not one] where violence between humans is sanctioned. On the contrary - all violence between humans is condemned.
